There are FOUR lights - XTriton - 02-19-2012

I had a problem very much like this one with my PC last month.
I bought a AM Cooler and attached it to my CPU.
Let it go for a while and suddenly my computer wouldn't POST.
So I figured, "****, I messed up the Cooler installation and the CPU fried"
Then I fiddled around a bit and found that I had somehow loosened the CPU power cable
which was located right next to the CPU socket.

If your CPU is fried then I'd recommend a new mobo and a shiny new sandybridge (2nd Generation Intel CPUs) for your rig. They are quite inexpensive for such a high performing intel CPU. If you are set on being lazy and getting a pre-built then try and get a tower with a i7-2600K which is the quad of the newer CPUs.

I used to recommend AMD CPUs but then they released Bulldozer. My heart is broken as I concede that the intel CPUs are actually value for money now.

And thus, slightly more than 2 weeks after the death, we have new life.

Remember, this is NOT a gaming computer - it's actually a business computer that I use to back up files and run effectively as a small network server, and have my VOIP phone server running on.

ASUS Essentio Desktop
Athlon II X2 dual core, 2.8 GHz
System bus 1066 MHz
4GB DDR3
750 GB HDD
DVD burner
8 USB ports

Meh - it's a $400 computer that I bought for $350. We just needed the third tower. (Those of you who have small businesses know how THAT goes.)

Just a side note, too.

This is the first pre-built tower that I've purchased that didn't have bloatware out the ying on it. There was a 6 month trial for Trend Micro Anti-Virus, and a link to something or other from Best Buy that I deleted - but that was it. I'm shocked and amazed - I didn't think any self-respecting computer manufacturer would put out a system without 900 different pieces of crap on it.

hehe..you got lucky then.
Anymore,I will build my own system over buying one. That way I have the control over what goes into/onto it.

BTW...here's a fun little experiment to test your sanity.....figure out a way to install ms-dos,let alone winxp,on a HP mini with NO cdrom.....Oh..and did I forget to mention that the little bugger forgets how to properly use its own usb ports after you have formatted it ?
