What is my next step? - gauliez - 04-16-2008 To answer more generally, I would say it depends on what you want your char to become. - If you want to continue on the way of a Mercenary, then Baconsoda advice is the perfect way. - If you want to make a trader (lots of people here have at least one trader char. in order to supply enough cash to maintain their other chars) I would say, join a trader faction (Yeah, join HGL !!! no, I m a not biaised :P), as you will get a starting bonus to buy a transport. However, your trade routes might be a bit restricted, but you will still make decent money, and begin to feel what it is being part of a faction. - If you want to join other factions, well, just approach them, ask them ingame about who they are, what they do, and if what you hear correspond to your idea of this char., just join the faction by applying in the appropriate thread. - Or you can still become an independant trader who fly bigger and bigger ships as he get richer and richer, but the risk is just that you can easily forget about the RP side. (IMO, ind. trader are pretty hard to RP... I mean, who can say he is independant and bought alone one of this huge train sufficent to supply a whole planet... but you can still give it a try). These are I think the best ways to stay in the RP, and to get into a deeper level of Disco. But my main advice is still, start looking at the factions... and have fun, of course. What are you talking about? What IS HGL? Also, I second that opinion. Starting in a militaristic faction (Like the Corsairs of a House Military) can be really hard to do if you don't have a lot of RP experience, and trading factions are one of the best ways to grasp the server. Or, there's always light arms from planet New London to Gran Canaria and deuterium back. You don't make quite as much, but you won't be pirated anywhere near as often. I've done the NL->Gran Canaria run, and I have NEVER ONCE ENCOUNTERED A PIRATE. EVER. You may see some Hackers on the NY->Leeds one, though. Thank you.. I did try it. I happened to be in Leeds. So I packed up with Berylium. But I didn't get more than 30 seconds away from Stokes before I was destroyed by 8 pirate ships. So now I'm back to square one. I have zero money and cannot do any trading... Hmmmm.... wonder if I could hunt hackers with my x-pod. My friend is also stuck in Kusari, he has no money and therefore he cannot buy any batteries, so it is impossible for him to get out of the system. What is my next step? - ryoken - 04-16-2008 EDIT: Also, the run from New London to Gran Canaria is 5-6 minutes either way. And you need to get in quite good standing with the Bretonian Police. Or pain will ensue. Big pain. This is a great route.BUT you need to be liked by brte police GUARDS not bret police. As for loosing your cash. i been there a time or 2. Try doing some mining to raise a small stake to start trading again, or hunt a wreck or 2. If you find some CODE's most will pay you a mil for them(boom instant cash boom). Then get an armoured transport. much better and tougher then your ship. What is my next step? - Slavik - 04-16-2008 the best way to get to know the server is to join a trade faction like HGL(not biased, really). These groups will give you some starting money to start in a transport and often allow you to keep the profits yourself afther you payed for your transport. Usually they will teach you the ropes of RP'ing on the server aswell The Mercenary way might take a while but you do build up gradually and will know some of the systems by heart(wich can be usefull if you continue as a mercenary). I must say you are going the right way, you joined the forum and you got started. Have fun, play safe, dont get caught by the nomads or phantoms once your above level 30 and you'll be fine. I found that bribing the BPA, BoWEx, Planetform, and Gateway worked wonders for that, but that does take a good bit of cash. What is my next step? - ChrisWade - 04-17-2008 I've been trying to find thie Gran canaria, but I just can't find my way there... It should be from New London but I can't find the jumpgate. Also... What am I supposed to do there? What is my next step? - beander2 - 04-17-2008 ' Wrote:HGL's the new Gateway faction, isn't it? Yes, and Baconsoda's our Director of Trade Operations... :P The JH to the system (sorry, can't remember the name at the moment) with Gran Canaria is in the SW part of Dublin, Chris. When you jump to that system, you'll be in a cloud; just fly out of it, and you'll see a large, greenish planet. That's GC. What is my next step? - chopper - 04-17-2008 Best advice I can give you is to continue your way in building it up slowly. I did that for over a month, until I had some 10 millions only from missions. Basconoda gave you cool advices. That part of the game is the best part in game. Also, try and talk someone to play with you. Doing things (and building up) in pair is always more fun. After you get a feeling for RP and community, you could join an existing faction, or continue playing as an independent. It's your choice after all. Good luck! |
