Inferno - Ryummel - 05-22-2012 ![]() "Is the prisoner still contained?" "He's been here the whole time. Now mind explaining...?"
He couldn't finish his sentence before the attention of the heavy armored unit switched to Heydrich's voice over the intercom. Things went too fast before the captain could realize his crewmen were murdering each other in the lower decks."This area is area is to remain secured until... Crap, stay here, agent!"
Zähler was left alone with the prisoner before he could articulate more words. He walked across the corridor leading to the upper levels, just to find the same kind of dreadful scene he witnessed before. Crewmen being sedated, the mutilated corpses of another two lying on the floor and the fear itself picture of the faces of the rest of survivors, pointing and blaming each other for the outbreak. That was the area between the crew quartes and the containment cell, the one that Zähler could analyze by himself. He hurried back to the cell, opening it and poking Nussbaum with the gun."Alright, we're out of here. Try not doing anything stupid, because I'm sure you won't get out of here alive without me. " "You lot really have no idea at all about what stalks the Omegas aside from Hessians and Corsairs, eh? Hah!"
Inferno - ChillerMiller - 05-23-2012 Every step brought her closer to her target, it could be heard by voices that slowly became louder. On the way she could see the results of her work, death was embracing the hallways. Many crewmen had already died a horrible death, how easy it was to trigger these events, all it needed was the death of one doctor. Traces of blood could be found everywhere, and something caught her attention. There was a pistol lying next to a corpse, it was fully operational and even had enough ammunition. She grabbed it and put it into her pocket, she showed no interest for the death man. Then a noise caught her attention, there was a survivor close to her. She turned around and spotted the injured man, a knife was sticking in his belly and one could see how much he was suffering in that moment. However, he still tried to crawl away from her, though it was not sure if he really knew what she was. "Away with you!"
He said with a rather weak tone, his eyes however, were showing the terror he went through. Vivien walked to him, he had already given up with the crawling and just looked at her."There might be a little chance for you. What's the mission of this Gunboat?"
There was still resistance, even though he was extremely close to death. Vivien knelt down in order to have a closer look into his eyes, she felt how it triggered something in his head."Hrmmmm..." "So?"
Vivien said and pulled the knife out of his body and slit his throat open. Blood immediately flooded out of it, and he desperately tried to stop the bleeding with his hands. He kept staring at her emotionless face, a nightmare has become truth. He spat at her before he finally died, it did not bother her. She stood up and wiped the blood of her face, though it did not really matter, most of her uniform was actually soaked in blood, something that could be useful. Suddenly, she heard voices that were coming closer."Alright, alright...according to that Agent...I think his name was Zähler...there's a hessian base in this system. We were ordered to locate it..." "Zähler...a familiar name. Many thanks." "God, what chaos...a random visitor and a dead doctor. Don't you think it's somehow connected?"
They were coming closer and it was the perfect moment for Vivien. She sat down in front of the man she had just killed and waited for them, it would not take long as they were already close. Her gaze was focused on the corpse and made her look as if she had been the victim. "I don't know. Nobody has seen her after the doctor was found. Where is she?" "Hmmm, who's there?"
One of them yelled and aimed at Vivien with his weapon."This ship is cursed."
The two men looked at each other and put their weapons away. It worked, they believed her, and she would surely use that. Before Vivien was infected, she had contact to Adrian Zähler, and it would be a good chance to use that, even if he was an Agent, every mind was corruptible."What?" "Look around. One of your crewmen killed the doctor and everybody has turned insane. He wanted to kill me as well, but I managed to escape. God...this place is hell..." "Help her up, we'll bring her to the others." Inferno - Ryummel - 05-24-2012 ![]() "We're aborting mission and re-routing to Solarius. The bridge will remain sealed until further notice. Prisoner 65 is to be detained alongside the Rheinwehr pilot. Lethal force is authorized." Those were the last words of Heidrich over the intercom system. His face was pale and his eyes were locked on the red giant of Omega 11, shocked, unable to do take any next step."My most loyal soldiers murdering each other in the blink of an eye... Who or rather, what could fabricate such a bluff to make us reach this situation...?" The crew in the bridge kept typing as fast as they could over the navigation consoles. Fear flooded their minds, while despair kept Heidrich frozen on the spot, mumbling words to himself.___
"Hey, Adrian! Wait for me!" "Damn it. Pray for us not coming across anybody sane enough to be willing to kick you back to the cell." "Adrian, Adrian, let's stop walking over corpses and wait until everybody kills each other!"
Zähler was anxious, moving quickly across the corridors connecting the lower and upper decks. Even if the captain had ordered to keep the bridge locked, the agent would do anything to return there and get answers. Or maybe he drew a rash conclusion, because as they both were passing the medical deck, two screams made them stay on the spot. Zähler aimed his gun at the blast door which was opening slowly. She stepped in, the pilot Adrian considered missed for long time, was now standing in front of him."V-Vivien?"
Inferno - ChillerMiller - 05-25-2012 'The gun won't be necessary, Adrian, you know that. We both know that...your prisoner here, is the only one who can be a danger for us.'
Vivien said, she made sure to appear like a regular human in front of him. 'Funny how faith led us together in such a sinister place.'
They both stared at Ewald, the prisoner, who in response put his hands up and shook them. 'I'm not doing anything, carry on with your business!'
Adrian replied to Vivien while he was trying take a look at the possible dead bodies behind her and she noticed that.'Faith, heh. I believe we can continue this conversation later'. 'Those two wanted to bring me to the others, that's what they said. After a while they started an argument...you see how it ended. After the first one was killed by the other one, I was forced to defend myself.'
Ewald interrupted him by poking his shoulder and then pointing at Vivien. 'I hoped the captain could give us a proper explanation about this... outbreak'. 'Then we should ask him. The bridge seems to be the last safe place in this ship.' 'It's sealed, at least until you two are arrested and...' 'Adrian, Adrian! You are seriously going to believe that pile of crap about crewmen murdering each other!?'
Zähler remained silent, staring at Ewald, then at Vivien, then at the corpses. Vivien chuckled a bit. 'It's funny to see how time has changed people...right, Kommissar Nussbaum? Look at yourself before you point at others.'
Adrian replied. Ewald poked him again and whispered. Ah! What a coincidence all this mess began as soon as you got onboard, right!? Adrian, for god's sake...' 'And why are you so sure about that? I doubt you can look into their heads, it could've happened hours ago. It's not my fault if your Captain gets a horde of mentally unstable crewmen.' 'Given the nature of this mission, I wanted to make sure the correct gunboat and captain were chosen. What could have triggered this... I, I don't know...' 'In front of you!'
Vivien said and ignored Ewald.'Isn't it obvious?' 'Omega-11 is a dangerous place, the radiation is a threat you shouldn't underestimate. And it seems the information about that Hessian base you're looking for, is simply wrong. You need a more reliable source for information.'
She looked at Ewald for a second. 'Radiation isn't something that could drive people insane in matter of minutes, Vivien. About him, this Unioner has a long enough background of deals with the Hessians involving diamonds.' 'Radiation can't, but the human mind can. Make your own conclusions.' 'Have you wondered why there are no Hessian patrols around this area? Would be silly to leave a base unprotected, do you really believe it's in that area?'
He left his sentence unfinished and suddenly aimed his gun at Ewald, but then switched to Vivien, then back to Ewald and repeated the process as he walked backwards. "This route is supposed to be the safest path to avoid corsairs and lawful authorit-..." "That Rheinwehr patrol where we found you... but on the other hand, this mission was supposed to be secret but... but..."
Vivien said and looked at the gun in Adrian's hands.'Some of the crewmembers knew about it.' 'That Rheinwehr patrol...I was chased by the other Wraith, I think you saw the end result. I have no idea what was wrong with that pilot, a shame it had to end that way.'
Ewald shouted and tried to approach Zähler, who pointed the gun at the Unioner again. "Why the hell would I screw the deal we had, Adrian? That whore is trying to mess with you as she did with the rest!" "Don't move, I said!"
Adrian aimed the gun at Vivien. 'Diamant is somewhere else, Adrian. You were led into the wrong direction, it's in the south of the system, like two hundred klicks away, and we're moving away from it as we speak.' "No, Adrian, no! What would I gain from causing this mess? Hessians wouldn't give a damn about my escape pod and they would just have sent a squadron of bombers to deal with this gunboat quickly! Only, only they would have pushed such complexity!" "They?"
Her eyes were focused on Adrian's face. Zähler could feel a chill down his spine as the eye-contact with Viven was established. [color=#6633FF]"He's a liar. You know me, Adrian" kept repeating inside his mind over and over again until he slowly pointed the gun at Ewald. He gasped as he tried to take control of his mind again, but Vivien's words were still there, like a whisper to the ear. 'Nonsense. Adrian, look at him, how defensive he acts. Look into his eyes, he's a liar, I bet he bribed some of the crewmembers to cause this mess. You know me, Adrian. I'd never do such things.' "Adrian, what are you doin-...!"
Ewald couldn't finish his sentence before the agent injured him with a clear shot on his right leg, collapsing on the floor and screaming in pain.Vivien looked at Ewald and had a rather sinister smile on her face. 'Turning yourself against Rheinland was a bad move. All this could've been avoided if you had stayed with the Polizei.'
She then looked again at Adrian. 'Finish him.'
Adrian was shocked, staring at Ewald who was lying on the floor writhing in pain, apparently ignoring Vivien's words.'Why are you hesitating? He wouldn't if he had the gun.'
The hand holding the gun was shaking."What are y-you doing to me, V-Vivien...?" 'I only opened your eyes. Realize who's your foe and who's your friend.'
Every word Vivien said was repeated twice inside Adrian's head, trying to impose themselves over his own will. "M-Make it stop..."
Adrian closed his eyes. 'That's not the Adrian I know, have you turned into a weakling during my absence?' "W-Who are y-you!?"
He shouted in his last breath before having to gasp aggressively.'Now you're just being silly. It's me, Vivien.'
He threw his gun away. "M-Make it stop, I implore you..."
She picked the gun up from the ground and walked over to Adrian while she looked at the gun. 'All you have to do is...'
She grabbed his hand and put the gun back into them. 'To kill him.'
Red and grey matter painted the floor after Adrian shot Ewald in the head. His hand began shaking again, enough to let the gun fall off. He took a deep breath now that Vivien gave him a split second to rest.'Good.'
Vivien simply said and looked at Ewald's corpse. 'We need to see your Captain.'
Inferno - Ryummel - 05-28-2012 ![]() "We're picking multiple hostile contacts! Hessian bombers!" "Get everybody who is still alive to the main cannons, we will need time."
Heidrich seemed to be saving the last bit of his energy to load his gun. The agent claimed to have the Rheinwehr pilot under control, and thus he requested access into the bridge room. The Rosenheim began to shake as the hostile contacts were approaching; the remaining crew standing alongside Heidrich looked more agitated than ever, yet they stayed calm enough to fly the gunboat correctly. The blast door began opening as the captain placed himself in front of it, while holding his gun firmly."Zähler..."
That was his only word before he fired a single shot at the agent's left shoulder. Adrian groaned and his knees buckled. Vivien walked past Adrian, standing still a few meters in front of Heidrich, who was know aiming at her."I have had worse criminal elements confined in this gunboat, yet none of them could have ever caused such havoc. On the other hand, the individual next to you proved to be ineffective to make sure this operation was successful. Now answer me, what have you come to do in MY ship?"
Inferno - ChillerMiller - 05-28-2012 'The individual next to me is not at fault, it was his prisoner. Herr Nussbaum was clearly feeding you wrong information, and he probably bribed parts of your crew to cause this mess, though I'm not exactly sure about the last part. And, Kapitän Heydrich, I'm only here thanks to you, after all it were you, who ordered your crew to pick me up, or am I mistaken?'
Vivien shrugged, whatever the Kapitän said was not of importance to her anyway. "The Rosenheim is the home of all the people here. I spent over three years recruiting the most appropriate soldiers to take part of the crew... So this kind of scenario would never happen. A scenario that not even a Unioner rat could plot." 'I'm standing in front of a mystery then. There's one thing you should know though. Your so-loyal crewmen, the engineers to be precise, have sabotaged the engines. They'll overload and then the ship will just stop moving, and you're trapped in this radiation hell.'
Before he could say anything, the Rosenheim's hull was hit with a volley of torpedoes. Heydrich had to make a huge effort to avoid collapsing on the floor as most of crewmen did, focusing on Vivien, who seemed to ignore the situation surrounding her. One of the crewmen yelled at the captain."You're the only mystery here, and I presume you know that you're also trapped here, right?" 'I wouldn't worry about me if I were you.' "Lower deck is de-pressurized! They're hitting us hard and we can't move!"
Heydrich didn't reply. He kept aiming at Vivien. Adrian's eyes were blank, as if he was totally isolated. The Hessian bombers were dodging the fire coming from the Rosenheim turrets as they launched their torpedo salvos at the immobile ship. Knowing that extending the conversation more than needed would get everybody killed there, Heydrich lowered his gun slightly, or rather, pointed it at Zähler."There's a row of escape pods right outside the bridge. Whoever or whatever you are, monster, leave my ship now."
She held out her arm and helped Zähler to stand up again. 'Monster? Please, Kapitän, now you're just being silly. I'm a human, just like you, or any other person on this ship. But alright, thanks for giving me a chance to leave this ship, but, I'll take Adrian with me, he doesn't deserve it to die out here.' 'Before we leave, one advice. As loyal Korvettenkapitän of the Rheinland Military you should make sure that your ship doesn't fall into the hands of the enemy. You know what that means.'
Inferno - Ryummel - 05-31-2012 ![]() Massive failure was reported on the life support systems and the torpedo salvoes kept coming, some of them deflected by the shield which somehow managed to regenerate partially. Heidrich gave the order; it was a lost battle. Some of the crewmen managed to reach the escape pods and ejected succesfully. Others were caught by a hull breach that sent them straight into dead space. Those who were lucky enough to get in the pods could get a neat view of their home, their gunboat, exploding. The Rosenheim finally found her grave in the hell of Omega 11. |
