RE: Crisis Management at Myrtos Villa - Francisco_de_Orellana - 12-24-2012 Francisco stood up from the bench in the ante-chamber next to the meeting room, wobbled for a moment, steadied himself and straightened his dress uniform. His head was pounding, partly through worry at the impending debrief, mostly due to the bottle of rum that now sat empty in his quarters. Francisco pushed open both double doors, marched in and greeted the Benitez Elders. The doors closed behind him. "Honoured Elders. For those who have not met me, I am Francisco de Orellana. I am in your debt both for your rescue, and for the hospitality since." Ronaldo motioned at him to take a seat at the table, opposite to the three. As he sat down, Orellana got his first good look at the Elders. Ronaldo, Trueno and Leon stared back, inspecting the hard won Soldato before them. Forgive me, it's been a long time since I was in the presence of the Elders. Not since I resigned from the bridge crew of the Talos! But, enough reminiscing. We have a great deal of business to attend to." RE: Crisis Management at Myrtos Villa - Slavik - 12-24-2012 Ronaldo was the first to open his mouth. "No need for saluting and all that Hermano. We have bigger whales to catch today.... As you know.. someone is out to get you... we've deducted its not one of the people in this room right now.... we just need to find out who... Lets start at the beginning. How the hell did you get sent on deep recon mission during the troubles in La familia... With a record like yours. You could've been sitting at this table as an elder... Easily!" His eyes showed his confusion as he thought of the troubled times the family had several decades ago. RE: Crisis Management at Myrtos Villa - Francisco_de_Orellana - 12-24-2012 Looking across the table Francisco saw relatively young faces. They'd have been children when he left. "Once I joined the military, my family connections allowed me to move quickly through the ranks. I excelled in the light fighter training so I was promoted to junior flagship pilot, an honourable position but not truly my calling. However my father insisted that I take the position. I served on the Talos C and then on the Talos D as a pilot. My immediate commanding officer was Bridge Commander Jose Benitez. " Francisco took a deep breath and continued "A few years into my service on the Talos I realised that I was not serving my nation as best I could. The Talos sat in Cretian orbit. My contribution to the empire's glory was a small adjustment of the manoeuvring thrusters, perhaps once every few hours. Glory isn't to be found on a static battleship, it's out there amongst the stars, taking the fight to our enemy. I applied for a transfer to deep space recon. My parents were furious that I was abandoning my privileged position for a dangerous one, but it was my choice. After a brief retraining period, I left on my mission in January 799." Francisco sunk slightly in the seat, remembering the harsh words that had passed between him and his father in particular. Circumstance had denied him the chance to apologise. RE: Crisis Management at Myrtos Villa - Rodnas - 12-24-2012 "I see...there are many pilotos who want to search for their glory inside a Titan, fending for their personal honor instead of the manys. Manysadly die in the attempt, yet you live to tell your story so your choice was right it seems,si?" Trueno fumbles around a few pages of his file "Forgive my ignorance an the details Francisco, but...back in the day...when i was but a chico...it was a troublesome time, wasn't it? You might have "evaded" the brunt of it...yet i ask myself...wan't there something in the air? Who were your amigos in the familia? Who patronized your ride and your change of direction? Was it all your decision? Or was there an underlying push, too? Don't get me wrong here... just want to understand your situation back then, si? You didn't have any troubles with or about senoritas, asking for completions sake here..." RE: Crisis Management at Myrtos Villa - Francisco_de_Orellana - 12-24-2012 "Troubled time? This is Familia Benitez, not some tinpot dictatorship! The family was strong Senor. The Don ruled well. He would not have tolerated dissent in the ranks. I'll admit that I did not agree with all of his policies, but that's politics and I was a soldier. To accuse me or my crewmates of disloyalty to the Don and the Family is..." Francisco shook his head and bit his tongue, he'd nearly accused an Elder of the Benitez of treason. It's quite possible that one of these men in front of him had plotted to kill him, and now they were suggesting that he was party to subversion. He suppressed his anger and continued. "As I said before, my move onto the Talos was arranged by my family's connections. My transfer was of my own devices but Commander Jose signed the order and strongly endorsed my transfer. As for my life outside of the service, I was engaged to a girl of good standing, her father was a Brotherhood Elder with a seat on the Corsair Council. Everything was planned for February 800 AS. It would have been one hell of a party. I broke off the engagement when I received my orders to explore the outcast home-systems. I knew the risk, and I couldn't put her through it." RE: Crisis Management at Myrtos Villa - Slavik - 12-24-2012 " I can understand your choice, I can understand it all to well. A lot has changed in terms of politics since your disembarkation on your mission. You are a soldier, someone who follows orders blindly however taking care your loved ones are not hurt. I can relate to that. Don Rivas however, turned the family into a dictatorship, slowly step by step and this had to be countered. Whilst a large part of the Benitez family did speak out against this a sizable part didn't yet they are still here and a valuable part of La Familia. We're not condemming you for not standing up against Don Rivas. We just want to know what happend." Ronaldo thought of the siege of talos and the fierce battle he and his loyal marines fought against Rivas his personal guards and of the non combatants that got hurt in the crossfire. " You we're dispatched on a deep-recon assignement, you cut of your ties with any loved ones that might get hurt. What happend then senor?." RE: Crisis Management at Myrtos Villa - Rodnas - 12-24-2012 Before Francisco could answer Trueno chips in. " That Elder you were speaking of...he has a name aswell, si? And i accuse you of nada...don't get me wrong hermano...i am here to help, remember that...even if it means asking in all directions. But please..go on! " RE: Crisis Management at Myrtos Villa - Francisco_de_Orellana - 12-24-2012 Francisco was stunned. So Don Carlos takeover from Don Rivas was a 'popular uprising'? Doubtful. But now was not the time for a history lesson fro the victors. Now was the time to tell his own tale. I was assigned to map the Outcast Home systems. I succeeded. Most of your current charts for those systems are based on my work. I attempted to chart Omicron 81, a Guard system containing the largest shipyard I've ever seen. I had good data, but whilst on shutdown in a nebula, I got pulled into an undetected jumphole. I immediately identified it as omicron 82, highly radioactive, filled with towering shards of dark matter. Unfortunately it was also filled with several large missile turrets of unknown design. They destroyed my ship and I ejected. During ejection I was injured and knocked unconscious. My escape pod was recovered by Outcasts from Puetollana Observation Post. I was transferred to Malta from there." He then answered Trueno's interuption "Elder Joe Costello." RE: Crisis Management at Myrtos Villa - Rodnas - 12-24-2012 Trueno takes down some notes on his iNeuralNet pad while listening intensely to what Francisco has to tell. " Your capture...si a true shame all your valuable work got lost then...actually i hope you will be able to pen down what happened to you while being mistreated and enslaved by the Outcast junkie hordes....first hand reports migth prove...very valuable when it comes to uncover the ugly truths and atrocities our dear "brethren" commit each and every day!" He pauses for an apologetic hand gesture " I am afraid this part has to wait a bit, first we need to make sure your head remains on its shoulders to tell the tale,si? So...we all remember your daring escape ....yet we need to know all details after that. Do you remember anything suspicious while you were in treatment by Cryer? Did you contact anyone? What about Trafalgar? Anything suspicious? Did anyone see you during refill breaks or something?" RE: Crisis Management at Myrtos Villa - Francisco_de_Orellana - 12-24-2012 Francisco took a deep breath. He'd been about to tell of his years of incarceration. That he'd be committing those memories to paper rather than having to explain them was a relief of sorts. A review of eighteen years of suffering could wait a little longer. "I remember passing into Sigma 13 aboard the Whale. There are flashes of conciousness from my time aboard Atka, I remember being submerged, breathing through a tube. The next thing I properly remember was waking up in a sideroom. A Corsair Comms pad was on the table next to me. On switching it on, it opened a secure line to Commandante Ronaldo who ordered me to keep radio silence except with him via that secure channel, and to remain silent to all other parties, including Cryer. I obeyed that order. The next time I spoke to someone other than the Commandante was when I signed the handover forms for my Legionnaire, on the day of the move." |
