And yes you do need to read allot but take your time before you join some faction, know all then decide witch one is best for you RP wise.

Took me 4 months to know them all and their respected RP's,politics etc.

Best way i think (i could be wrong here) is to be indie trader and trade thruout Sirius, that way you will meet a loot of ppl and factions.

Yep, that's my game plan. I don't want to join a faction just to regret it the next day. I want to build up a small hoard of credits from simple mining and trading, and learn about the factions and their policies, before I do anything that would drastically affect my character.
