RE: Awesome gaming PC? - Balaerus - 03-02-2013 What about all the battlefield games which are way better on PC? I play BF3 at a friend on pc and it's way more awesome than on my ps3. I also play games like Starcraft 2, LoL, old PC games such as Freelancer and want to play Star citizen in the near future. None of these games are available on consoles and will never be. I'm not going to discuss that or anything else, I want parts for my PC! Current setup I have in mind: - Zalman Z11 plus - i5 3570k - MSI GTX 660ti - MSI Z77A-G45 - Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST2000DM001, 2TB - Scythe Mugen 3 PC Games Hardware Edition - Nexus RX-7000 (700W PSU) - Corsair Vengeance 2x 4GB DRR3 I don't know if these parts fit, that's why I need your help please! RE: Awesome gaming PC? - Anaximander - 03-02-2013 Oh wow, I tried explaining 3 times, yet it still didn't sink in that I wasn't trying to give you advice on consoles at all. Nevermind then Edit: Ah screw it, I'm tenacious. When they made BF3, the developers had to keep in mind that it should be able to run on 7 year old hardware (the consoles), and although BF3 looks and plays better on the PC, it has still been restrained by that fact overall. When they churn out BF4 they won't be constrained by console limitations at all, they are free to go all-in and make games that make Crysis3 look dated; because nothing is keeping them from it anymore in terms of hardware, and the PC will have gotten a boost to match the next-gen consoles through a new set of standards for DirectX. If you are unlucky and buy your hardware now, you might be jumping aboard a train on its way to its last station - a new DirectX will probably be launched within the year, and you can be unlucky that your hardware doesn't support the latest in particle physics or whatever else they conjure up, which will mean that you won't be able to run BF4 with the top-end gfx because your card doesn't support it, or you might be unlucky and not able to run BF5 at all when that comes out without a hardware upgrade. That is why it is smart to wait and pay close attention to the rumour mill, and make sure you buy hardware that is spec'ed for the next generation of games / next DirectX. Right now, on the verge of the next gen, is probably the worst possible time to make a major upgrade to your system, because we still don't know what the new standard will be for the next generation of gaming, but we do know the leap forward will be big. We will know the details in a few months though, and if you by smart you can get an extremely long life out of your investment. I'm trying to give you advice on the purchase of a PC that will save you money and grief. RE: Awesome gaming PC? - Agmen of Eladesor - 03-02-2013 For what it's worth, according to released and leaked specs ... PS4 running on a single core 1.8 TF processor (which sounds more impressive than saying it's a single 4.5 GHz processor). Durango (new Xbox) running 8 core 1.6 GHz processor. That's where you run into the issue of always needing to upgrade your PC and spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade. I'd rather just spend a few hundred and get a good console for most of my gaming, and do just the PC gaming I want on whatever PC I can get and upgrade cheaply. I can get an 3.8GHz 8 core processor of AMD for like €150 euros, but raw processor speed isn't that important really. Various benchmarks show that the i5 3570k is actually better at most aspects than the AMD FX 8350. CPUs might fix some FPS issues but the graphics card is the most important for games. Also I already said I'm going to buy a pc. I have a console don't worry, I'll just have both of them. RE: Awesome gaming PC? - Treewyrm - 03-02-2013 Based on all those leaks for next Xbox and what's known about PS4 I'd say you can upgrade safely enough. For what it's worth both next-gen consoles are simply customized and locked down x86 machines and neither seem to have specs above what you can get for a reasonably priced high-end PC. The good thing coming out of all this is that games will be easier to develop for consoles and PC, they all share same architecture and no more custom hardware such as PS3 CPU. Apple moved from PowerPC to x86 long time ago and now two main console makes jump as well. It all comes back to PC :-) RE: Awesome gaming PC? - Anaximander - 03-02-2013 Ye, the next-gen consoles are already outmatched in terms of CPU, it's the GPU that will take a while to surpass. And not so much in terms of raw processing power, but in terms of features. In 2006 MS released Xbox360 and DirectX10, about a year later all games where developed with basis in DX10 compliance - too bad if you bought a DX9 graphics card months prior to the release of DX10, and effin' awesome if you bought a DX10 card around that time, because it would last you years and years. We'll probably see DX12 come out this year, and DX12 becoming the industry-wide standard by the end of 2014 - that means you need to run out and get a new gfx adapter by that time, if you still want the high-end gfx in games. RE: Awesome gaming PC? - Treewyrm - 03-03-2013 Majority seem indicate PS4 has a 7850 or similar GPU. Also keep in mind whatever it shall be it's going to be integrated version imposing limits as well. Unlike previous console generation this 'next-gen' isn't going to be ahead in GPU of what current single-card high-end PC systems have. Many known developers who had their hands on devkits said as much. Regarding APIs. PS4 seems will have native access to standard OpenGL 4.2 without intermediate libraries. Leaked Durango devkit specs and hints from developers indicate its GPU will support DirectX 11. So nothing really new there. Besides it is highly doubtful MS will try to make its next XBox to be deliberately harder to port though some incompatible DirectX spin-off. Most high budget games are multi-platform titles, it's just when a console maker owns the development studio (and/or acts as a publisher for title) they can make a title exclusive to their system, but otherwise publishers prefer to make their titles available to all markets, and obviously said publishers would like to keep porting costs to minimum. RE: Awesome gaming PC? - Camelopardalis - 03-04-2013 My setup: Core i7 3770k 4X Samsung Spinpoint 1TB RAID 0 16 GB 4x4GB Gskill Ripjaw 2.4ghz Corsair HX 850 Watt AS Rock Z77 Extreme 3 2x Saphire HD7950 But yeah, that setup will run them games just fine. Though if I were you I would consider either A: spending a bit more on a 670, or B: Going ATI and getting something like a 7950. That's why some of us prefer a PC instead of a console. @Compatibilities, just check the mother board what kind of CPU supports and what kind of pci supports, most likely you will need the 3.0 pci express and intel ivy bridge if i'm right RE: Awesome gaming PC? - Balaerus - 03-27-2013 So my current setup which I'm going to buy is a little above €850, €950 to be precise but worth the money for me: - Asus Sabertooth 990FX R 2.0 motherboard - AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz 8-core (CPU) - XFX HD 7970 black edition (GPU) - XFX Pro850W (PSU) - GeIL 8GB RAM - Seagate 2TB HDD - Zalman Z11 plus case I'm going to buy these parts next week so I might be inactive in Freelancer because I'm installing stuff and playing other games as well. For those who wonder why I chose an AMD CPU over an Intel CPU: I compared the AMD FX-8350 to an Intel i5 3570k, both are about the same price but the AMD has an advantage in fps when streaming and/or using cards in crossfirex mode. |
