You can't do it since it's not each system being ran on a different server, they are all being hosted on one server.

Also you can't restart a specific system, only the whole game.

Even if it were possible to do a system by system restart, what a whippin' it would be.

As it is, you see the notice, you park, you wait a few minutes and then get back on with your day.

The other way; you see the notice, park, wait, get on with your day, travel to another system, see the notice, grumble, park, wait, get on with your day again...thanks, but no thanks

Marburg hit what I was trying to say right on the head. Why are we trying to take something that is bad (if it was possible with the hardware and software, I'm sure there would be no restart at all) more common and random? Thats like your internet provider saying "oh well no one likes it when their internet cuts out so why not purposel select random people and cut their internet at different times and call it a feature"

Why do we actually need restarts anyway?

Well that kinda work might be a bit difficult. Aside from the hardcoding the map is much much bigger then most people realize. We simply don't use all the dots (systems). If we were to change the mechanics of this map we couldn't go half way, the project would be monumental. If we ever figured out how to manipulate the map we wouldn't be stuck with hardcoded pathways (JG and JHs) from system to system that are static and unchangeable. I couldn't overstate how huge the true map is btw it's mind boggling.

Servers don't work that way.

In order to maintain a stable server, it needs to be completely restarted regularly, meaning the WHOLE SERVER, you can't do it based on systems, not with how servers operate in 2013.

I blame windows!

Dolphins have to swim up in order to breath while sleeping as well as while beeing awake. In order to do so they let they cerebral hemispheres take turns. They restart partly so to speak.

So let's run Freelancer on a much higher developed dolphin instead of a computer! Big Grin

CODENAMES, NPC patrols and general server stability.
