Independent Miners Guild Comm System (GuildComm) - AeternusDoleo - 11-05-2010 *** Incoming transmission *** From: Johnathan Sanders, R&D Director To: IMG Guildcomms Encryption: IMG guildsmen (and women) only Subject: New opportunity Guildsmen, Directors, It has been a while since we have prospected and developed a new site. Most of our focus has been on the existing lucrative gold and niobium deposits within Dublin and the Tau systems. While these provide many miners displaced by the Bretonian-Kusari conflict with work, it does little for the citizens of Liberty. While we do recruit among the unemployed of mainly Denver and Texas, many of these people simply do not want to leave Liberty, a sentiment I can understand. There is however, an opportunity within Liberty itself. A frigid world that has remained undeveloped for decades, despite the fact that resources are known to exist on it. The icy world of Hallam, in the Pennsylvania system. Initial orbital surveys indicate the presence of mineral resources, most likely copper and cobalt, in significant quantities. However, to say that the conditions on this world are harsh would be an understatement. I am fully confident that we have the expertise to run a planetside operation, since we've done so before on this type of world. A detailed planetary prospection for possible mining colony sites will take time, and funding. Not to mention the construction of orbital facilities. If we can tap these resources however, it would bring significant benefits to both ourselves and the Liberty economy, especially in the Pennsylvania and Colorado system. It is well known that the facilities on Denver require copper and cobalt for superconductor manufacturing. These resources are most abundant in Rheinland, and the war has cut this supply off, causing production there to have to be scaled back. The planetary conditions would cause extraction and refining to be a costly process, but the lack of an alternative makes this planet more then viable as a mining site. Diplomatically, I do not forsee any trouble. The Zoners of Pennsylvania have never shown an interest in mining, aside from the helium deposits in close proximity to Bethlehem station. The Liberty government has so far not even responded to my requests, leading me to believe they either do not mind, or more likely, do not care. Xenos activity is fairly high in the Hallam vicinity, but after putting out a feeler to them, I am convinced that they will not oppose this idea, considering the benefit it will bring to Libertine workers. Which leaves just the usual pirates to contend with - Liberty Rogues, mainly. But I suspect they too will only harass us, they have no reason to oppose our presence. On the developmental side, I recommend a dual approach. Our guild has experienced ice world prospectors from a previous project, as well as experienced colony builders for that enviorment. However, considering we're building something in Liberty space, it might be simpler to have the orbital facilities, consisting of a docking ring and transport moorings, constructed by Deep Space Engineering. They have more experience with that kind of work, thus can do it quicker and more cost-effective then ourselves. Setting up planetside colonies can be done using atmospheric landing craft, once suitable sites have been found, until the docking ring is operational. Basic supplies such as food and basic commodities shouldn't be a problem, as we can import those from Eerie locally. Other commodities such as basic alloys for construction, and mining tools, can be imported from the New York system easily. We do not expect these supplies to become a problem. Finding miners to work this colony might be difficult due to the harsh conditions planetside. However, both Texas and Denver still suffer from high unemployment rates. Our non-corporate structure gives us an advantage in mining sites with hostile conditions. Instead of a fixed income, folks are payed based on what they produce, with only a small percentage going to the guild for the facilities upkeep. Early projections, working under the assumption of copper and cobalt deposits, indicate: Copper extraction, in case of viable copper veins, would be difficult. The price of extracting and processing this mineral planetside would allow us to resell this at a price of 600 to 650 credits, roughly. This price would still allow for a good wage for those working the extractors and processors, and take into account the costs in fuel and equipment used for extraction. Cobalt, if found to be available in sufficient density, would be even more difficult to process planetside. I estimate a cost of 825 to 875 credits per unit, however, considering the demand on Denver and Pueblo for this material, it is an acceptable cost. Raising the ore from the planet for off-world extraction is both undesirable and unfeasable: The cost for raising unprocessed material out of the planets gravity well would exceed the price of the ore itself. Also, I would like to keep the labor of working the raw ore in the guild if possible. So the question to all the guildsmen, should we invest in this world? I welcome any suggestions or possible concerns that might have been missed. **** End transmission **** Independent Miners Guild Comm System (GuildComm) - Mobius-One - 11-19-2010 -Incoming Transmission- To: [color=#009900]IMG From: 118th Tactical Squadron Codename Mobius Subject: Status of the war in the Taus -----------------------------------BEGIN TRANSMISSION------------------------------------------------ Hello, my name is John S. Bartlett, Captain in the 118th Tactical Fighter Squadron call sign Mobius. Today a very large Outcast fleet attacked Tau-23. They began to hit Java station as soon as they were in range. Sending Image now In the end, we ended up with the Combined effort of 2 battleships, a cruiser, Gunboat, and couple of fighters and bombers to take down the enemy fleet of 3 battleships,2 to 3 Gunboats 1 cruiser and 4 fighters 2 to 3 bombers. There were more enemy ships that enter the battle that took place than in this Recon Photo which was taken before the battle started. I do not send this message to our commanding officers to just say we won, but to ask if we may receive more help on the front. Today's battle was against all odds yet with our Superior tactics we prevailed. Barely, we pulled this Miracle off. I do not believe we will be so lucky a second time, that is why I'm requesting additional patrols of Gunboats and Cruisers, if you can please. I hope that we can get more on the field so this madness may never happen again. End Message 118th Tactical Squadron. Independent Miners Guild Comm System (GuildComm) - Jack_Henderson - 11-23-2010 **** Transmission started **** **** Secure line - opened **** **** Location encrypted **** To: Headquarters, IMG, Security Department Concerning: Another Tau 23 Incident This is Jack Henderson speaking. I was patroling the mining area in T23, helping IMG miners to load up when after some fights outside of scanner range (we only heard some radio chatter of it due to wave reflections) a gunship appeared. I ordered the miners to evade and move out of scanner range, which they did. The Outlaw approached me and the pilot was identified as Constantine Elias, who asked whether I wanted "protection". He wanted money, or he would kill me. Java received my call and sent reinforcement. When we outnumbered the gunboat 4 to 1, we hoped that a threat would make him retreat. He didn't. In the fighting two IMG ships were destroyed, two could retreat. I'm reporting this because the agressor issued a threat against the survivors which will make it pretty hard for me to work in the mining area of T23 as a sensory outpost and light protective force (as well as mining helper) because this gunship will for sure look for us there. Therefore I'd be glad if IMG could muster some forces to efficiently protect the mining areas in Tau 23 against attacks. Just now we are easy prey there and as this incident has shown, the forces present in Java were not sufficient to stop even one agressor - not to speak of the biggest force I saw there: 2 dreadnoughs, a cruiser and a destroyer. Still, I would be content if IMG could send enough fighting power to protect the mining fields which the enemy most likely won't attack with the capital ships but with smaller craft and pirating methods. Thank you for reading the report. I'm off duty tomorrow and I'll have to change locations a bit during the next days to evade the tracking attempts of my new "friend". Better let me do that and change personell roster and schedules than pay for a funeral and insurance for my wife and kids. This guy means business. With a group as large and diverse as the Zoners, it's a given there's a few bad apples among them (Erisian pun intended). If you have any relevant transcripts, either in text or in guncam, please make those available... if there's enough there, we can put a bounty on this person - with the intent to cause this person financial damages until he pays his standing bill. The loss of a few cargo holds of whichever goods this Zoner is carrying should get the point across that stealing is ultimately costly. *** Transmission closed *** Independent Miners Guild Comm System (GuildComm) - Misane - 12-17-2010 ' Wrote:*** Incoming transmission *** first of all, thanks a lot for your answers, Unforunately, i have no record of the scene, but Zoner Doc Holiday offered to pay me back, which is quite appreciated, i'll keep an eye opened to try to obtain infos on this false zoners and will keep you informed. Unfortunately, i have another crime to signal, this one concerns a JUNKER that many IMG pilots know as "Jean De Afrique", he stole my mined but unlooted niobium twice yesterday and shot down my ship when it was full after that. I've been able to Eject Fortunately, as my crew did. Here is the report: I was asked to mine 7000 units, as my Hegemon was full (2540 units), i had a big quantity of Ore around my ship, suddenly this "Jean" arrived , looted all my cargo and left, IMG pilot Zed tried to catch him but too late, he had jumped to Orkney. I contacted this junker to tell him that he had no choice but giving me back my cargo or he'll have a huge bounty on him and a constant threat each time he comes in Tau23, as we IMG miners are united against pirates. So he said "sorry, i come back but don't shoot me" i said ok, when he came back, as he looked scared by IMG pilot protecting me, i told the pilot to go a little more far, then jean arrived, his ship was empty, he looted again my niobium floating around and asked me to mine some niobium for him (i mean i think that's what he said because he's very hard to understand). Suddenly, he opened fire and blew my ship. A mercenary working for me saw him just after in Orkney with a Salvager named "Remnant" going from Reunion base (surprising) to Dounby. Please warn all miners that this Jean is extremely unpredicatble , quite dangerous and must be eliminated each time he comes in Tau23. He stole me for 75M, and i'll find a way to make him regret that for a loooong time, for example as you said Jonathan by blowing his cargo each time he's spotted. Mining is a hard work, definitely...
