The server would often be at full capacity til the late hours with the vast majority of people doing that run. The queues for the jump holes were dreadful.

Did you know that mining ships like the Hegemon were made available years before they had any purpose aside from trading like everyone else?

Did you know that it used to take ages to set up a character? Before FLHook everyone started on manhatten and had to secure their IFF through missions or bribes. Then you had to fly to whichever base sold the ID you needed to buy it. It was a major contributor to why New York and Liberty in general were so overcrowded.

Did you know that the LSF were for a long time the PvP elite of the server? Their characters were seen logging several times a day every day and they only flew raven’s claws.

Did you know that the Unknown system was created with the plot of ‘the wizard of oz’ in mind? It’s accessed via kansas, there’s an emerald city and you are returned to normal space once you find the wicked witch in the west.

Did you know that the xenos’ likeness to hillbillies originated as one player’s joke that ended up as their faction hallmark? None of their bases are names from the deep south, yet they’ll never shake the reputation of being gun toting rednecks.

Did you know it used to be pretty common for outcast fleets to use rochester as a staging ground, and people were ok with that?

Did you know that alaska was once the epicenter of activity for the whole server? Many moons ago it was the fastest route to run cardamine through to manhattan. As you can imagine, it used to royally piss off the navy.

Did you known that assigning a character a ‘Crminal ID’ which was hostile to everyone was once an official means of punishment from the admins?

Nice to reminisce

should probably bring back some of these, especially criminal id punishment

Obscure rule that nobody remembers:

Before the Connecticut command was a thing, and before the technerf was a thing, official factions were allowed to have a fighter (under their ID and faction tag) that belonged to their enemies in their guard system for training purposes. I don't know anybody that actually did it though.

The [LN] had a couple of Wraiths for training

CR had a couple of Sabres as well.

Cardamine is not a cardamon

RE: Did you know that.... (Discovery edition) - Hemlocke - 12-02-2019

Cardamine addiction simply isn't an option if, your character was born on Malta, or born to someone genetically altered by cardamine, period.

Did you know discovery’s activity was derived from player roleplay and interaction and not from trading?

Did you know that discovery’s activity used to not be measured in the number of players online; but instead, the types of players and the quality of interaction?

Did you know the story of discovery used to be far more compelling than it is currently? Attracting over 200 players even a decade after the mod was made?

Did you know that player bases werent always a thing, and that low player counts directly correlate with the attitude behind pobs?

Did you know the death timer used to be 2 hours?

Did you know that getting OF status used to be a responsibility and not an entitlememt?

Did you know that torps used to be used on snubs?

Did you know that tau-23, omega-11, and sigma 13 used to be massive activity hubs; but were destroyed by current economy “standards” and minority complaints?

Did you know that capital ship cerberus turrets used to travel up to 3.5k?

Did you know that piracy used to be an experience that would attract players, and not one that discourage them with a dictionary-long-list of rules?

Niel Druckmann would make a better story narrator.

Did you know that the death timer used to be 4 hours, and that in Tau 23 there was an Outcast vs =CR= fight that lasted longer than that, in which I was the only one to survive from start to finish, and that it only ended when Corsairs came to assist us because ZOIs didn't exist at the time?

I am of the belief Discovery's activity has always correlated to traders. For as long as I've been playing since 2009 at least.

Similar response to above. We had rubbish interactions since forever. Furry Navy captains is a classic. Millions more I can't be bothered to go into.

The mod had 200+ players on at a time because the video gaming and media entertainment industry was different back then. The current population level is due to a large variety of reasons before we even start to touch on storyline alone.

Eh. Questionable. I got probably the most factions official out of anyone and most of those were just fun side projects rather than real detailed investments I saw as a true responsibility.

I agree. I miss activity hubs more than anything.

Again, not sure this is totally accurate. I've cried about and have players cry about pirates to me ever since I can remember.
