RE: Remove Omicron-81 - Tachyon - 12-14-2013 I agree with with the removal of Omicron 81. Just like most buffer systems it's more of a nuisance than help, even if some consider it to be more "inrp". I would always set the playability of the mod over immersion. RE: Remove Omicron-81 - Lobster - 12-14-2013 Can we please get rid of Lambda? It has killed what used to be the cool hanging out point that was the Freeport in Theta. Players no longer have a place to congregate. RE: Remove Omicron-81 - Karst - 12-15-2013 I'd quite like to see a poll on this, because it seems like the vast majority are not in favor of these buffer systems. Omicron-81 and Omicron Lambda are certainly the worst in this regard. It's not only the increased flight times, which are annoying and decrease the possibility of encounters, but also the systems themselves which suffer. Omicron Lambda in particular, I remember it fondly from .86. It was a dark and mysterious place far out of the way, that you'd be unlikely to stumble upon by accident. Exploring it was actually interesting, and few people knew about. Now though, it's nothing but a long, boring but necessary cruise between the Sigmas and the Omegas. The size which previously made it imposing now just makes it tiresome. Very much the same can be said about 81. And Theta, beautiful Theta lost its unique position. Since vanilla, it had been the magical meeting place between the Sigmas, Omicrons, and Omegas. A place you might meet anybody. Now it's just a place nobody wants to go. I'm also quite sad about another system mentioned here, Omega-9. Previously, Omega-15 was a unique place - jumping into it for the first time from Omega-41, I panicked when I saw two red stars about 3k away. Aside from that, there was a Junker base at the site of a mysterious accident, a battleship-guarded connection to Rheinland, a remote BHG base, and a diamond field. What was it replaced with? A system with an entirely uninteresting layout and nothing in it except a few jump holes and generic asteroids and nebulae. What a shame. Unlike some others the sheer number of systems doesn't bother me that much, but randomly inserting them so certain trips we're well familiar with, at times since vanilla, take much longer does. At least Omicron-81 and Lambda, being by far the worst, really need to be either moved back, out of the way somewhere, or given the Yukon treatment. RE: Remove Omicron-81 (And buffer systems in general) - Lythrilux - 12-15-2013 I added a poll. RE: Remove Omicron-81 (And buffer systems in general) - Murcielago - 12-15-2013 Yes please. Make Sirius smaller it will be better for player to player interaction. I think you can remove 20 systems or more and nobody will cry becouse of that. I see we have at this moment 24 players on server.. soo curently 9 systems per one player?? RE: Remove Omicron-81 (And buffer systems in general) - Jack_Henderson - 12-15-2013 Ye, I feel this trend of "buffering" is a failing concept. It looks good in theory, I have to admit. And it makes the world a little more believable, but the gameplay effects are undesirable. I somehow don't have a problem with the existence of these systems themselves, but with their... > ...size > ...use They are too big. Why add +70k of cruise? That makes me alt-tab. They are useless. Even for pvp meetings. Suggestion: > shrink them. (20 k should suffice) > delete asteroids and make them into small pvp arenas in which caps can operate without the annoying stupid asteroids that seem to ruin capfights pretty much everywhere (and which are in general annoying to every pvp interaction). RE: Remove Omicron-81 (And buffer systems in general) - Tibbles - 12-15-2013 I support the idea to reduce the number of systems while keeping the bottleneck concept (S-13 as an example). RE: Remove Omicron-81 (And buffer systems in general) - Sava - 12-15-2013 There's one more system that should be moved. Omicron-85. Nothing ever happens there, and yet it is between Alpha and Eta. RE: Remove Omicron-81 (And buffer systems in general) - Panzer - 12-15-2013 trash eta too. It' the quintessential, first ever buffer system. RE: Remove Omicron-81 (And buffer systems in general) - P1vas - 12-15-2013 Look at the poll. Tendency is pretty obvious. Devs, hear us out! Plz, don't make us wait another year before it gets fixed. |
