RE: Spyglass scanner idea: see through cloaks. - SnakThree - 12-26-2013 Make ammunition based cloak batteries with different max ammo for different cloaks. Make it pricey to use. Moneysink for gamebreaking ability. RE: Spyglass scanner idea: see through cloaks. - Hannibal - 12-26-2013 Balance? That certainly what will all come down to it.. 1.Spyglass scanner should not be able to detect cloaked ships because: (a)something called RP (b)while this item is pricey the medium and big cloak were more valued than this, not as much with new update though.. 2.How can we balance it in case of actually having a spyglass/battleship scanner with this ability? : a.fighters/bombers should not need ammo to cloak, therefore it will have same stats as purple/jelly ones b.spyglass/battleship scanner should use consumable items in order for it's ability to be activated.. 3.SRPs Are you insane??? Having to wait 3 months-1 year in order to get 1 item?To write a book too?To lobby every green and orange name that there's in disco? Just NO *facepalm* However..this is what i think about spyglasses: IT should be able to access the trade lane data, just like police officers...after all..we are talking about an item that it's modified by lane hackers, those who are supposed to have access to that kind of information,at least inRP RE: Spyglass scanner idea: see through cloaks. - bloogaL - 12-26-2013 (12-26-2013, 06:43 AM)Kazinsal Wrote: Taking the open-market out of the equation makes it actually able to be balanced. Actual balance would involve you just deleting cloaks. They are entirely non-beneficial, and have only ever harmed gameplay. Yes, because we've seen that all those factions can be totally responsible with their cloaks, right? RE: Spyglass scanner idea: see through cloaks. - Connor - 12-26-2013 Personally, the spyglass shouldn't be able to. I would say give the battleship scanner the ability to see cloaked vessels on radar ONLY RE: Spyglass scanner idea: see through cloaks. - SkyNet - 12-26-2013 (12-25-2013, 10:25 PM)Lythrilux Wrote: Just had a simple idea for the spyglass scanner: How about it lets you see players who are cloaked? This would make it useful for finding players who are trying to run via cloaking, or for being able to anticipate the move of an uncloaking battleship. When a spyglass scanner can only be mounted on some kind of special radar ship and when the cloak can't be disturbed by a cd anymore, then yes. RE: Spyglass scanner idea: see through cloaks. - GOLOD55 - 12-26-2013 Lets spyglass scanner run voice message like "cloaked ship detected". thats enough. Then why is it OK that cloaks are open-market? I see no logic at all behind making the only counter to cloaks (aside from CDs which are a soft counter at best) almost totally inaccessible when cloaks themselves are buyable by anyone with enough time investment. I honestly don't think you understand just how bloody impractical making anti-cloak scanners - if they are ever even implemented - SRP only actually is. Cloaks should have never been implemented in the first place - without even going into infinite cloaks - but now that they're here, ways to counteract them should be brought into the game. Also, on whoever said something about SRP being better because making stuff expensive isn't the answer - I can't be bothered to multiquote when I'm posting from my phone - you realise SRP requests are 250m a pop, right? In terms of time and money put together, there is nothing more expensive in Disco than an SRP. 250m (at least) followed by at least weeks - but probably months - of waiting around, not to mention the prep work. Forgive me, but I at least think that SRPs should be kept for, you know, special roleplay, and not just "durr de dum I/my faction wants anti cloaku device ty" RE: Spyglass scanner idea: see through cloaks. - Cosimo_de_Medici - 12-26-2013 I am against a cloak-detector, even though i don't own a cloaking device myself. Even as SRP it would probably give too much power to the one using it, and therefore disturb the balance, making cloaks more and more useless. What I would like though (I don't know if its technically possible, but it should be similiar to the way how cloaking devices work), is a lets call it "alpha-version" of a Cloaking Detector, that would not let the cloaked ships appear in the scanner list, but instead making it appear as a special model (for example only a little colored dot or a very difficult to see "glas" model) instead of the real ship model. That way it would require more attention and skill of the one using it to actually detect a cloaked ship. And it would fit better rp-wise. I mean how would it fit to the story that there is a new technology making cloaks useless? In a game that is about interaction, toys that keep people from interacting are counter-productive. RE: Spyglass scanner idea: see through cloaks. - Connor - 12-27-2013 Keep the cloaks, but you want some sort of device that can decloak cloaked ships. Something that can be built on a base. When used it should consume fuel and when activated it should send out a massive pulse that decloaks any ship in a 5k ramge orrr the more fuel you use, the greater the distance. You should charge it like the jump drive, but for something like every 100 fuel used, you get 1k decloaking pulse (if you get what I mean aha) |
