Could be Nomad-nuked and keep a pair of surviving sistems. Gallia was redesigned and shrunk with the release of 4.87 which I assume you haven't played yet. Almost all systems are fairly small now. Average lane size is about 45k compared to 80k+ for Sirian house systems. The only big system is Ile-de-France. In fact New York is much bigger than almost all Gallic systems so saying they should be shrunk to New York's size is ridiculous. Frankly, I don't see much logic behind blaming the general lack of activity on Gallia. If its systems are empty of players, it just means people are more concentrated elsewhere. I agree. shrink most, if not all systems to make room for more interactions RE: How can we save this mod? - Acolyte - 05-03-2014 Corundum Wrote:Gallia was redesigned and shrunk with the release of 4.87 which I assume you haven't played yet. Last time I flew through any of the Gallic systems, I could quite literally press F2, leave the room, make tea, let it cool for a little while, and return to my seat and still be 20K from my waypoint. You're right in that I haven't been into Gallia with the new version. Thank you for the update, it's good to know as we proceed in this thread. Let's continue the brain train of suggestions, everyone. RE: How can we save this mod? - tothebonezone - 05-03-2014 You don't. Especially not with the majority of the devteam that we currently have. RE: How can we save this mod? - Govedo13 - 05-03-2014 Even if it is a bit too late now I would toss some suggestions. 1: Another system layout. I had one long post about it in 4.87 map presentation, too lazy to dig it. 2: Server wipe and economy of loss implementation. Ship loss cost credit penalty. Massdrivers economy plug in implemented with flat nerf of 80% of the current incomes while keeping only several routes with good yield. Same for mining only 3-5 good spots the others should bring 1k per unit max. Long discussed with ton of info. If you care search. 3: Official factions buffed big time. Find Del`s topic about it if you want more info. 4: Proper ship PvP balance that gives upper hand to factions. Shield based balance. Explained 1000 times use search if you wish. 5: Revert plug-ins and hacks to 4.85 switch on one in time till you sort what makes the game to lag and fix it. This would make disco fun and interesting to play. In order to happen you need huge dev team that is not full of biased jokes with no idea for in-game reality like the current one. The single realistic way to have the said huge team is to open up the dev forums, to have the current experienced devs writing tutorials and monitoring the quality control only. All of the above changes should be voted by the official faction leaders and members and implemented by them as well in huge community based development effort. If we have 50 people that are willing to grind all could be fixed in 3 months. It just requires good project management and people willing to work for it for free. Right now even if we still have enough players that are willing to dedicate some time to help the mod there is no such option. RE: How can we save this mod? - Gulryz - 05-03-2014 Play more on server, new people come but when they see no one around they go RE: How can we save this mod? - Johl45 - 05-03-2014 (05-03-2014, 10:21 AM)Eugen Wrote: well problems "I" have seen are: Completely agree.I have seen there are many new players logging everyday. They just log in see around and since they have no idea what to do after logging they just log off. Firstly I think the /restart beginner command should give a Gull Transport like it used to before so that new players are happy about it and they understand that they should start with trading or even better EVERY Trading Faction restart should give Gull transport to the players.I have seen many new players complaining about ship they get in the starting since they have no idea how to start with a crappy fighter and so they just leave. Secondly I think there should be another NOTE in the new players ships cargo hold which tells them how to start trading and making money along with a couple of good routes so that they dont need to roam around looking for one and so on. Thirdly this is my personal experiment.I made a new character and roamed around liberty.I greeted every player I saw but only few of them responded back to me.I asked how to start from every player online at that time but common response I got from majority of them was "Find it yourself" this kindda looks mean dont you guys think ?only 1 guy out of 36 explained me briefly how to start here some didnt even bothered to reply back. This shows how veteran players treat new players like Crap like they are nobody. So we(veteran players) should come ahead and help new players every way we can even by giving them credits so that the new players understand that discovery has a friendly atmosphere and they settle down on discovery To be honest I try to help every new player as much as I can whom I see everytime I log in and give them 10million credits as a gift you guys should do the same. Some of the suggestions were already given and should be taken into account. In my humble opinion, these are essential parts: - more developers on board - don't forget that Disco is a modification of the original game; - update wiki - or create a webpage/forum section where any new player can find all necessary information updated; - facebook - do not ignore its power as a marketing and advertising tool; - forum - use some plugins to make things much simple and information easier to find; - motivate players - by organizing 'in-game' events and competitions with rewards in credits; - listen community opinion - post polls/surveys before to implement any modification in-game. RE: How can we save this mod? - Vendetta - 05-03-2014 You know, I came back for literally a day hoping things would've picked up. I was disappointed when the servers daily population was 40-60. That number is dropping. I flew for 40 minutes to find one person, only to be denied an interaction because they'd rather trade silently. New York isn't very populated, either. The server is empty, and even if you manage to find someone, chances are they probably wont want to talk. As Lyth said, saying Disco isn't dying is Ignorant. This isn't a down time from the server issues. The way I see it, this is the end. It was like this before, but this time it's different. I see literally no way to save Discovery. EDIT: Oh, and I left again and gave all my things to Altejago. I think Daniel Blake (and Eugen) hit the nail on the head. We need more support for new players. Previously, factions like OSI used to park their recruitment ships outside of Pennsylvania in order to help out new people. Likewise, the Angels used to hang around; but I'm afraid diminishing server activity has hit hard on all fronts. As such I think we need a better way for players to autonomously get started. A note to guide them, a ship to help them, et cetera. I think that's a dynamite idea. In the note, it could even warn them of piracy and what to do if it happens to them. Like all of you, I see new players logging on every day. It's just a matter of retention rates. If we can figure out how to keep these players - who have arrived straight from ModDB - I think Disco has a chance at recovery. Obviously there are still people interested in trying new FL mods, so right now it's all a matter of making them feel welcome; of giving them a community to help them along that will ultimately win them over. |
