Clarify why we do this again... - tfmachad - 09-17-2008 ' Wrote:I think all of Discovery's rules could probably do with a revision/update, but I don't have the time or energy to devote to such a project at this time. Either way, it seems clear that many rules need an overhaul. I would go so far as to say if you leave selectable range (which is 10k, after which point you are no longer able to select your opponent), then you are out of the fight.I was meaning to do a rule FAQ. Perhaps we could gather some five people willing to take a profound look on the rules to work on it. I would be willing to lead/participate in the effort and can think of four other people I would like to see getting involved (not friends, but people I identify have both interest and a clear headed perspective of how the rules affect gameplay). Would this be something Igiss is willing to put onto people from outside the admin team? Of course, that means this group would work on things and present a proposal for approval from Igiss and the admin team. From there they can bring it to the rest of the community for discussion. We could even come up with a FAQ for the rules in parallel. That way we would have some "real life" scenarios in which we could test the validity and scope of the revised rules. EDIT: Provided there isn't anyone doing that already. Clarify why we do this again... - Ximen_Benitez - 09-17-2008 ' Wrote:I was meaning to do a rule FAQ. I'd be willing to help with something like this. My personal opinion is, if you are good enough to thruster away from your opponent, you should not have to leave the system. That's getting away without cruising (which means "You lose"). If you can't thrust more than 10k away... then there is no point in running in the first place. Clarify why we do this again... - Raekur - 09-17-2008 Would an admin finally answer one question about leaving a system. How long can a player remain IN the system until it is worth reporting, 5min, 10, 30, and hour? I have encountered people who have lost in a battle then sit in the base talking ooc or just simply talking trash and never wanting to leave the system or log into another character. Had one that was kicked 3 times for base idling and still came back to talk crap. When is too much just simply too much? Kirk: Mr. Spock, engage warp engines, give Scotty time to repair the shields. Spock: Captain, by engaging the warp engines you are fleeing, and must remain out of the system for four hours. Kirk: What? Where did that come from? Spock: Fleet admiral Igiss, but fortunately the Klingon ship exceeded 3k, which is our maximum weapons range, he is now considered fleeing, and possibly shieldrunning, depending on which admiral gets the report. Kirk: Screenshot him and lets make our report! Those Klingons will rue the day they messed with the enterprise, when they wake up tomorrow with no weapons! Long drawn out fights that requires some tactical skill would be amazing. And for those who think that it would bring out those OOC PvP "w" word, it won't. If anything, it would promote even more RP on a faction's side. For example, a small fleet or combat group, complete with a "flagship", could engage an enemy fleet, and utilize tactics, such as flanking, where a small section of the fleet detaches, doubles back, and attacks the opposing fleet on a different side. I'd love to see what a fleet captian would do when all of a sudden, a bomber wing drops in from directly above him. There are quite a few here that since they configure their ships to have an advantage against a certain class of ship will then cry and whine like crazy when attacked by the type of ship they are vunerable to. Some dont seem to grasp the fact that to gain an advantage one way, you have to accept the fact that you are now vunerable to a different one.
