I would not be able to put up with people speaking broken english with random asian words thrown in, it would do my head in. I just have no interest in playing a Kusari character, and it wouldn't surprise me if more than a few people felt the same way. can confirm the feeling as a legit, 100% bonified asian i cant get myself to do the whole asian thing so i just hang around in illberty and berbertony RE: Kusari Exiles ID change - Cuttsy - 01-14-2015 Give them Battleships and id happily create a Exiles character! Quick question: are we being a bit presumptuous in assuming that all Kusarians are Asian, and would therefore also speak with a broken English accent? It seems equally plausible that, while maybe the culture is more Japanese, the people themselves are more of a mix of races/ethnicites. I see no reason I could't RP as a white/black Kusari Exile or KNF officer who speaks fluent English, unless we just want to perpetuate charicatures (sp?) and stereotypes. Kusari, iRP, is likely the most xenophobic house out of all four orignal Sirius houses. I don't see how Kusarians who haven't left Kusari voluntarily would mate with people of an entirely different race, let alone house. RE: Kusari Exiles ID change - Leppy - 01-14-2015 Two Questions: 1. Why do all Kusari characters have to speak in broken English? You don't see all Rheinland characters acting like they can't speak English or all Gallic characters acting like they can't either. Because the game was designed in the US, English is the universal language in the freelancer universe. Play through the campaign again if you wish. All of the characters are able to speak perfectly legible English no matter which house they are from. 2. How would giving the Exiles battleships suddenly increase their activity? There are plenty of factions that include the ability to use battleships that don't have a lot of player presence. There are a lot of rigid nuances, customs, and tangled relationships developed by a handful of players to keep track of compared to other houses. It's incredibly immersive and fun if you can get into it, but the steep learning curve means it's rarely the first choice for incoming players, even if they have prior knowledge of Japanese culture. As Technogeist mentioned, it can be hard for some people who want to use varying levels of romanji in their interactions (or none at all). Anime caricatures can make it hard for people who want to take their RP in a different direction too. Strongly agree here. I've always felt that Kusari kind of has it's own seperate playbase. Funnily enough, I've seen the Kusari base actually be kind of unwelcoming to non-Kusari players. "Ew, a Liberty player trying to play in Kusari!" is one such line I've heard. Of course, I can imagine it being fun once you get into it, and furthermore I can imagine why the players would be so unwelcoming because they don't want their 'utopia' to be disturbed by newcomers. Still, such an attitude sucks. RE: Kusari Exiles ID change - t0l - 01-14-2015 (01-14-2015, 06:37 PM)Leppy Wrote: 1. Why do all Kusari characters have to speak in broken English? The game was designed with severe time limitations making it so everyone uses the same 3 voices. Does everyone in the world sound like 1/3 of the entire population? negative. RE: Kusari Exiles ID change - Technogeist - 01-14-2015 Well here's the thing, I could make a character that just speaks perfectly normal English. But the people around me would not, and that is more than enough reason for me to not RP in Kusari. I never go there, and RPing with Kusari travelers in Lib/Bretonia/wherever ticks me off immensely, even on my chars of Bretonian origin. I'm starting to think I might just be a racist. I hate all that anime crap... Now I feel bad. I blame Toris and his bloody furry foxy face.
