Do you think pirate power should equal lawfuls or should lawfuls have more in FL..? - mjolnir - 10-02-2008

' Wrote:Battlecruisers are assault weapons, designed to be the force to break out a heavy defence for other ships to enstablish a perimeter around the sieged/attacked area. For lawfuls (in-RP), this means that you can bring a pair assault battlecruiser to cause a mess in an hostile installation/planet defence grid with it's fighter escort, while using cruisers for close support.

After the defence is enstablished you can bring the dreadnaughs as defensive/offensive semi-stationary units.

Summary:

Dreadnaughs: Heavy defensive units, air superiority fortresses.
Battlecruisers: Assault/siege units, designed to do fast attacks on heavy defensive grids.
Cruisers: Maneurable anti-fighter | anti-capital attack units.
Gunboats: Maneurable anti-fighter | anti-capital support escorts.

Rest of classes quite clear. So i do not think even corsairs/outcast would design a ship with the purpose of assaulting planets and stations. That's bad for bussinesses.

Oh yes... and the BHG BC will become a prime example of that ;)

' Wrote:Now imagine if criminal mercs had same ships as BHs and flew around killing "everyone who was lawful"--most would get that wasn't right. But we have Bhs doing the same thing arguing they are. They need a real job--a nemesis.

Exactly ... I hate adding rules, but the Bounty Hunter ID needs to have a statement that says they can only "hunt" for an actual bounty. At present bounty hunters kill for pleasure whether they are getting paid or not. A bounty hunter doesn't work for free. A bounty hunter's SOLE income is from collecting bounties. Now ... HOW can a bounty hunter purchase a ship like the battle cruiser if he does NOT collect bounties?

' Wrote:there is an unwritten rule for ship designers that states that Battlecruisers can only be lawful. Why? Cause if all the pirates had them the LAwful/unlawful balence would slide heavily in there favor.

Um ... there is NO balance as it is right now. Lawful power compared to unlawful power is like a lion compared to a gazelle. There's no comparison. Balance is where the pirate would have a fighting chance ... not saying the pirate has a winning chance ... just a survivable chance. That does not exist unless he can make cruise before you can catch him.

' Wrote:IMO the BHG should never have gotten a capship line heavier than gunboats to begin with, but apparently it's because "they need to fight the order". Up until 4.85, the order has only had one capship of it's own and it's been fairly rare to see players with them in-game, while the rest of the order is forced into fighters for the most part, going up against bounty hunters that rarely, if ever, use fighters or bombers of their own.

in my opinion, lawful should always be superior to unlawful. The outcasts should be the crime empire nearing closest to house power (with house Liberty and house Rheinland as the two military superpowers).

Unlawful, to survive the superior techs of the lawful forces, rely on stealth, guerilla and backstabs. Economically, they arent powerful, neither is their tech very good, their population must probably be scarce and dispersed.
Large ships for unlawful forces as such, is useless and hindering to their cause.

Exceptions remains however;
-Outcasts: The greatest crime empire ever, locked in a feud with the Corsairs, outcasts have an alien narcotic which boosts its economic machine a thousand fold of what would otherwise by a planet as poor as Crete probably. Plus, this same narcotic seems to transform them into evolved humans, which, while maintain them chained to their homeplanet, make them formidable fighters and thinkers. Their tech has probably evolved in a different method than standard human method research (not necesarly more powerful, but different for sure).
They as well, might be the only faction which would want capital fleet to protect their homeworld from the GMG and Corsairs; no need for battleships, but destroyers would make them the suprematic pirate/mafia faction.

-The Order: not really an exception. Research on alien tech does not necesarly mean super high tech. And they should have only one capital ship, the Osiris, a stolen model. And potentially defected warships from all Sirius, making them a diverse fleet sharing many technologies from all Sirius.

-Corsairs: they are the "Spartans" of space, a race of ruthless murderering pirates, composed only of the elite, those who survived their trial. Their wish to aquire capital class warships would come from the outcast feud war, and for this, they might simply hijack lawful crafts. I'd have suggested slightly modified bretonian destroyers for instance, with modified texture to make them appear damaged and all. Seeing their savage nature, they wont have too much trouble against one, perhaps a battleship wouldnt even be too hard.

All in all, to say disco isnt representative of a realistic universe of FL. no priates shouldnt access to same weaponnery as lawful, but to compensate, they could have more advantages fighter-wise (more regen, more armor for instance)

Whatever Xing. I take it you're not a fan of the Star Wars saga. You know ... where the bad guys are all powerful and the underdogs (the Rebellion) works their way to defeating them.

With the good guys all powerful ... they become the all mighty fist making for a stagnant server. Oh for joy ... we can all have tea and biscuits now.

The underdog now are the pirates. But we seem to always encounter rule lawyers and role play police.

If you want real life parallels--where criminals can't compete in sheer power, they go for faster, different smarter--we have none of that either.

yea, if we went for realism here criminals would drop off scanners the moment they went into a debris or asteroid field, and would be able to hide ambushes in them. Curse you lawfuls and your 14k range scanners!

anyways, i think xing just doesnt like the order. It's been over 16 years since orillion stole the osiris; the order has some of the top scientists and engineers in all of Sirius, they have a TON of funding from private investors and the zoners (who are one of the richest factions themselves), and they not only have shipyards of their own (on toledo and evora) but they also have access to the shipyards the corsairs use for their capships.

The order has grown, even if liberty doesnt want to believe it. They have every right to develop and use capships as any lawful military.

Xing just likes to have the upper hand in a fight.
