The majority of events should be of the first variety, considering that it makes less work and the universe shouldn't change too often. The latter type should always be agreed on by both sides. Remember as well that losing assets doesn't necessarily mean that you have to lose actual bases or anything - it could be reflected inRP as well.

Basically this, perhaps topped with the giving the chance of retaliation for the losing side after a type 3 event with a type 2 at a later point.

Now, this without dabbling or ever wanting to dabble into inRP and ooRP politics or discussing the Dabadoru event itself: It's not true that there is no fun playing the losing side. Even when the outcome is predetermined you still have the choice to decide if you want to give your opponent an easy victory or give them hell so that they need to work for what they'll get later (perhaps even giving them a phyrric victory).

One example this subject reminds me is SC2: WoL's last protoss mission where you are destined to lose, but because of this losing your entire base is not a condition of defeat, rather a trigger for the end of the map. The challenge there is not to win, but to last as long without (or rather until) losing as possible. And hell, it was fun.

What I liked at a few events was an extended period of respawn allowance, so I wasn't out of the equation after five minutes because I could come back for at least forty minutes more. As long as we will still have those, I'm even fine battling aces or cheesers or op tech, so that wouldn't make options 2 and 3 any more problematic for me.

Honestly (as an uninvolved party) I think anyone who claims the Order participation wasn't largely motivated by OORP dislike of the Core is lying to themselves - especially when taken alongside the gleeful gloating that was endemic afterwards about the Core being ganked so hard they didn't even want to log in.

Thyr's got the right idea there though. Events work best as chains that branch. So an initial event that sets up consequences, with a secondary event that gives recourse to the losing faction to either achieve something else or take back whatever it was they lost.

don't get my hopes up like that

We need some clear rules about events with RP consequences, because a pew-fun event is all ok, but if you want to have any RP consequence over it you cannot exclude any faction active there. Like you make an event right outside FP11 and wants to exclude zoners - that was later solved, all right. But you cannot completely exclude the Order from participating in a Delta event, for example, if you want that event to have future consequences ingame and inRP.

Voted "Other" because I prefer all sorts of outcomes, when they fit the events purpose. But then again, it all depends on what sort of gain or loss we're talking about here, because it is relative to a faction we're speaking about. For example, event based around capturing a Valor would have such a little impact on GRN if they loose it, that it can as well be considered as none, even though by fact they lost one of their ships.

Id rather people settled things ingame, with actual real time activity.

Edit: and while the GRN does have the forces to wipe Liberty, they lack the logistical capacity to do so. They're having troubles maintaining leeds, much less extend even further.

Someone's gotta feed those thousands of troops, maintain parts to those hundreds of ships and fuel the reactors. That all doesn't just spawn out of thin air.

Not everything is cap numbers and killing. Welcome to a RP server.

Notice I put question marks under those numbers, no need to be rude.

Did I ever say everything was capitals and killing? I was responding to aces statement about capitals.

I will stay on topic.
Events should not be predetermined in any way.
You stage an event, limit cap, snub, player numbers and also level the quality of PvP (3 indies and 2 vets on one side 3 indies and 2 vets on the other)
Now, here's the deelio, in order to balance the whole match PvP wise, you give indies caps and you give vets snubs. Why? Because indies are bad on snubs, bad on caps, but can still do damage and not get obliterated on caps, while get toasted on snubs and thus making their experience non enjoyable.
So yeh, events should be orchestrated like this: you post for an event, have 3 slots for snubs and then increase them if more people join (on each side) and caps, which are limited to the indie population and only 2 per side.
If you make a cap event, go ahead, but to me disco isn't really about caps. Caps are fun, but snubs should be the main focus of every event.

as far as events making changes inRP goes, why the hell not? It's an imaginairy universe and I would love to see what would happen if let's say rheinland hooked up with gallia, invade bretonia from another front and thus create a debacle of sorts within sirius.

and please no predetermined events. Just log, the better side wins, gets the base and call it a gee gee.
There should also be an autodestruct option. Let's say, I don't want to give my base away, I would let it be blown to bits, before I let the enemy use it to further it's campaign on me. I set the timer and watch it burn. Possibly with a whole lot of number of enemies on it.

@Luka.ace, either you have the storyline controlled by responsible people and thus have events with significant impact on it predetermined or you have the chaos of a pure PvP server with just some random mockery of roleplay involved. Are you really telling us you would rather see the latter than the former?

Keep in mind, you can still have your kind of event set up and done, it will just have an impact only on your gaming experience and not the overall storyline. Judging your priorities from your comment however, to me it looks like you would be pretty fine with that.
