Be a bit more open minded. There's a lot of role play in the storyline. The Rheinlanders attack you for a reason and you find out why later in the game, so nobody said you should attack without a notice. We just mentioned that the law enforcement shouldn't negotiate or tell stories with the enemy. RE: [Rant] The Death of RP - Dr.Linston - 05-19-2016 Then why even say a word before shooting them out of the sky? inRP it should be my goal to kill him even before he is able to return fire.... But this cant be fun for anyone.... There are so many factions out there like Xenos, that now have a playerbase of -1 because the cant talk to anyone anymore. All they get is a liberty navy battlecruiser named "timmy" killing them. Ofc this isnt fun. RE: [Rant] The Death of RP - sindroms - 05-19-2016 Getting shot is a part of roleplay consequences. If you wanted to RP a lawful without these consequences, again, stick to the forum. By living in the game environment, you are expected to be brave enough to be on both sides of the interaction. That you are mature enough and skilled enough in RP to know and understand that the outcome of an encounter between a lawful and unlawful character can lean either way. If you are a part of a multiplayer enviroment, you have no way to choose how that encounter ends. That is what makes RP fun. If you want a set ending, go read a book. RE: [Rant] The Death of RP - Thyrzul - 05-19-2016 I didn't say you will definitely be shot, but that you should expect to be. Please cease thinking in absolutes because the world is not black and white. Thank you.
RE: [Rant] The Death of RP - Dr.Linston - 05-19-2016 I dont want a set ending. But you say the outcome may be both ways..... not what i see ingame. I literally get killed every single time i run into a navy or lsf (which are nearly 50% of the server population). RE: [Rant] The Death of RP - Lorelii_Darksaint - 05-19-2016 I'll agree with that (mostly)... As an independent (non-faction aligned) character, I'll at least greet try to just about every character's ship I see in game. And I've had some interesting and very entertaining R/P interactions because of it. One of the best conversations I had recently involved myself, a Red Hessian, some dancing girls at a techno party, Vodka and a box of Cigars... and I still ended up paying him. However, it seems that often people don't seem to want to be bothered with anything outside of getting their credit/cargo payout or blue message. I noticed that as well when I came back to Disco myself a couple of months ago. And it's my experience that quite a few that do this appear to be faction players. Don't give up on the R/P, there are players out there who will talk to you in character. The difficult part is trying to find them. RE: [Rant] The Death of RP - Dr.Linston - 05-19-2016 The main problem is that even if you try to speak to a navy officer they don't reply on what you say and merly repeat their "surrender" until they can engage. I feel that whatever you do the outcome is the same... RE: [Rant] The Death of RP - Thyrzul - 05-19-2016 (05-19-2016, 10:55 PM)Dr.Linston Wrote: I dont want a set ending. Try Gallia. 100% less LN and LSF there. Seriously, depending on who you meet Liberty can be the best or the worst place to look for roleplay. Is it destroying them or levying a fine and telling them to get out of here?Arrest RP is usually done by bringing people near prison and make them log off (but it may differ on case to case and house to house basis). Of course if you meet same lawful later again (especially if it´s like twenty minutes later), it is usually RPed out that you escaped from prison and thus you are either brought back again or shot. Fines are generally for minor crimes like smuggling or disorderly conduct. You pay and you may go (with confiscation in case of smuggling). But if you are member of organization which is declared illegal in the specific house (like Rogues in Liberty, Hessians in Rheinland, Gaians in Bretonia etc.), you are to be arrested, fines are not an option in this case. You are simply member of known criminal or terrosti organization thus you are treated as such. (05-19-2016, 10:34 PM)Dr.Centura Wrote: And what are your grounds for arresting an unlawful if he isn't committing a crime? Do unlawfuls not have rights?LIke I already said above. If you are member of outlawed organization in that respective house, it does not matter if you are committing crime or not in the moment of encounter. You are to be arrested or neutralized because you are possible threat. If you are member of some other unlawful organization, then usually you should not be arrested, yet treated as suspicious, so in some cases you can be asked to leave for example. In case of Pirate ID, it gets little more tricky. Hardcore RP conduct should be to let him go unless he is known pirate or reported for piracy. But due to how easy is to obtain new identity in this game, usually they are attacked. It depends on attitude of each player. (05-19-2016, 10:34 PM)Dr.Centura Wrote: What do Police expect you to do when they say surrender?I already described that above a little. Basically, say you surrender and then you will see what happens. But it should not mean that lawful will just shoot you, that´s not okay. You see this during the singleplayer campaign and you see this by reading about the ingame lore. There is no reason to arrest a criminal in the Freelancer universe. There is no such thing as rehabilitation for criminals. They are either slaved or they are killed - preferably the later. This is actually just result of lack of /arrest command and generally inability to properly roleplay courts and jails and such. Of course inRP there is reason to arrest people, because inRP people are jailed, they serve their sentence and then are released. We just can´t/don´t want to RP that. Or are you willing to wait few years before your Rogue character will leave the prison where he will end for robbery? EDIT: Oh and after reading comments - like others already hinted, try to play more outside of Liberty. For several reasons, the amount of people who don´t RP at all or have very flat RP is the highest there. No offense intented but it´s a fact. |
