RE: The Scaglainne Oir Situation was it crazy? - Enko - 08-21-2024 BAF/BMM and RPA already duked it out, we had some fun there then the siege resulted in a stalemate. When the siege decleration was pulled, BMM were only like 1 or 2 days away from winning the siege regardless from being at full base HP, the chances of winning were low and motivations were low. Nobody is forced to do anything, it's a game. Nobody gains anything by forcing this. The issue with this base is that it was a complete and total mess, you used molly ships, freelancer ships, OS&C and even started using bretonian corp ships to supply and run the base. You did not even own a side here, and the base never even had a real purpose other that to serve that. Bases come and go, it's not like you can't try again later down the line here either. As for dublin, it is far from a monopoly, the gold routes are vastly open on both sides and both bases operate on tight margins to offer as good value to people using them as possible. If anything, you would benefit the most by just using those bases. RE: The Scaglainne Oir Situation was it crazy? - Xenon - 08-21-2024 Too much drama as usual... I learned from this miserable community a lot actually concerning POBs. Some people get joy from sieges and destroying bases, so let them have fun, it's one of the discovery curses, and won't change, so let them enjoy Good luck destroying the next base lol, I wonder what you will siege when there are no bases left hehehehe cheers RE: The Scaglainne Oir Situation was it crazy? - Enko - 08-21-2024 (08-21-2024, 10:04 PM)Czechmate Wrote:(08-21-2024, 09:59 PM)Enko Wrote: BAF/BMM and RPA already duked it out, we had some fun there then the siege resulted in a stalemate. Lisheen was made for content, and content was granted. It's also provided a lot of valuable information on all sorts. Having a random freelancer base that breaks bretonian laws but doesn't seek approval/protection from RPA is the problem, coupled that with not owning what you do by using bretonian ships to try and circumnavigate the blockade. Doing stuff like that doesn't earn you any likes. RE: The Scaglainne Oir Situation was it crazy? - Nodoka Hanamura - 08-21-2024 Ah yes, Freeport 11 2 - Britbong boogaloo. Only difference is, that Freeport 11 to my knowledge, existed well before the Core was a thing, and was not in the heart of Order space, so the latter gave nary a fuck. And Yes, it's a POB, but then again, we've seen it nuked how many times now? Scaglainne Oir is a case of a faction rushing in, and making the same damn mistake I made with Ouroboros back in 2018 - running with scissors instead of walking. If Artemis wanted the base so badly, they should have approached the RPA, as they are quite literally, the defacto controlling faction in the system, though not without heavy contention. They jumped at the chance to buy the station, and then when the Mollies found out that Artemis took control, and not only that, was allowing literally anyone to dock on it, suffice to say, in a warzone, it's not going to go over well. They should have adhered to their demands from word go, if they approached before buying it. But even then, the Mollies likely would say no anyways, because again - they've got enough crap on their plate. Freeport 11, as much of a meme as it is, taught me one thing about Discovery - it is a bad idea to be in the middle of a fight. It is even worse - to set up shop in the middle of a warzone, and expect not to get your shit kicked in by either party, unless you fully side with one or the other. Oh, and before Greed gets to it: RE: The Scaglainne Oir Situation was it crazy? - Enko - 08-21-2024 There is also another angle about the warzone thing. Who does this base serve? Why does it exist? A freeport for mollies? Why do they need it, why do they care? Why would you risk putting a base there, risk your own reputation being slashed hostile for all of Bretonia just to serve a freeport for the mollies? Anyone who enters past the blockade is breaking the law, naturally making them hostile to Bretonia as they go on. Freelancers and other random entitites wouldn't do that without heavy consideration for the ramifications of that, having an entire house and possible allies putting a mark on you? What did this base even gain? RPA/Mollies don't need it, Bretonia certainly doesn't care for it. There is also not a huge market for random freelancers and such that want to break the Bretonian laws but also do not want to go to the Mollies. Why did it even exist? RE: The Scaglainne Oir Situation was it crazy? - Busy Miner - 08-22-2024 If the shitty POB mechanics would allow for more hardpoints or more levels to each POB, so owners could build more defenses, then the trigger-happy upstart terrorists would think twice before attacking. I have seen admin-POBs with 20 levels, so why the restrictions? Pity about Scaglainne Oir, this base has benefitted the Bretonian cause a lot during the gold rush, but BAF or BPA couldn't be arsed to pull a finger out of their behind to assist against the Mollys. Haven't seen much effort to get Dublin back, btw. Just some effort to pester traders who wanted to assist POBs stranded in the embargo. And I agree, the server is basically Pew-Pew with some thinly painted RP over it, mixed with the additional POB killing spree (just look at the momentary attack declarations). If players were actually more involved by the Devs, like official events to build space stations, defense forts around mining areas, rebuilding Graves etc, or scientific mega-projects like stopping the dark matter cloud in Munich, the server wouldn't be this abandoned. RE: The Scaglainne Oir Situation was it crazy? - Darius - 08-22-2024 Bretonia, in the past, used to encourage PoBs to such a ridiculous extent that, when I took over the running of the region, in 2021 I had to take 2 steps back and decide what the hell will happen to all these bases. Even now, 4 years later (almost), New London still has 12 bases, Omega-3 still has 16 bases, etc. This relationship of "good will" between BAF and PoB owners ended not too long ago when BMF started hurling around threats at BAF about the Dublin siege. I have no sympathy for random installations thrown around for no reason, I have no interest in defending random installations that serve no purpose. You saw, in Dublin, how we are moving forth with a new policy to defend only those bases that help us directly or indirectly. Much the same will be applied in Omega-3, should a siege begin there. Cease stacking PoBs, do some actual roleplay around and join one of the existing factions (or make your base elsewhere); stacking bases won't help your "cause" against the so-called siegers. As far as Dublin goes, I think it's been cleared out enough by now. Scagglaine Oir survived for so long because current server rules made playing lawfuls too complicated to properly enforce laws in systems like Dublin. There, there are now 3 remaining bases (BMM, Molly, Junker). You can rely on my word that as soon as Bretonia gets attack lines there properly, we will take down that Junker base as well. I would have expected 5.0 to get this message through already, but it has not; PoBs are not permanent structures, they're made to be built and fall. I speak from personal experience when I say that building and getting a base to Core 3 max HP, with fully built modules and refineries, costs only some 10 millions. It is outrageously cheap. Anyhow, that is that from the BAF/BretGov side. Good luck! You forget the upkeep cost, sometimes bribes/extortion to butter up the local unlawful factions, fees to the government, and then you need to build that thing and outfit it in the first place. This takes a lot of time and money, since prices go up and commodities are inconveniently placed by design. And then some SOAB comes along and claims you haven't done enough RP. RE: The Scaglainne Oir Situation was it crazy? - Darius - 08-22-2024 I would think that making 2.4 millions an hour, mining Gold in Dublin (thus requiring only some 4.something hours total for said Core 3 max base) makes this "cheap", but perhaps you'd like to make an argument that earning cash is difficult in today's Discovery...? |
