The reason being for an explosion to damage a shield, it must hit the shield generator. Because capital ships are so large, it is extremely hard to hit this generator, and any ships that have internal shield generators cannot be hit by explosions, hence, no shield damage at all. Great idea in theory, but rarely practiced due to the fact that if even one side has the organization to have bomber wings, the other side likely will not and they're going to be massacred. It's pretty much only for pre-arranged fights and events that you're going to see such organization and tactics on two sides. Wings of fighters with screamers and sunslayers set up to mow down caps in an organized fashion. I would love to see fights that entail that but it's highly unlikely we will see them often. Mental fatigue sets in, or one party gets impatient and starts throwing defense to the wind to try and end the fight fast. The snak, however, is an antimatter cannon, so, the idea is it cuts trhough it's target without an explosion. If there is no explosion, why should I die? Sure, decompression is one thing, but I am sure my own armor can deflect shards and all. EDIT: Right, I need to be immature. SNACing requires skill, really, especially if your target is a fighter with at least some bit of brains, he will loop, dodge, strafe, do EVERYTHING not to be lined up. Killing such an opponent with the games most slow projectile weapon is a satisfaction no? |
