To Pirate or not to Pirate - Malaclypse 666 - 05-12-2007 ' Wrote:Exactly! That's why pirates hunt in packs, 2 fighters minimum, start making friends, more fun! But... ...that would mean they'd have to sell their big toys to buy little toys... Oh. (You devil, you!) Trying not to offend, Mal To Pirate or not to Pirate - Spacewolf - 05-12-2007 i dont like working with other people my flying style doesnt suit it To Pirate or not to Pirate - caylith - 05-13-2007 Train cruise disruptors work people! |They work fine for me. If he does get away, then good for him!! Do you know how many people are trading right now? If one gets away there'll be another one right behind him. Sheesh. Besides this isn't a debate on disruptors. Cruisers and battleships can't even pirate! So, you wanna be a pirate? Go "pirate" something. Olsav, this was just a venting exercise for all of us. Maybe something could come out of it but I doubt it. I do think that getting battleships are a little too easy though. But...if you HAVE to have one, take the time to wrok up a fine story for it, make sure your tag and ID match and you're good. It's not so much to ask really. To Pirate or not to Pirate - onca - 05-13-2007 @Cay: I think you should've added a third option -- "Mu";) @Olsav: All changes of policy begin with discussion, opinions and venting of spleens. Who knows maybe this one will too.... Now I'll add my whiny voice to the clamour: - Freelancers should not own capships. No RP could possibly support it. You wanna fly a p***s extension, go to Tony's pvp server. - Pirate factions which own systems can have 1 or 2 BS's only. Pirates are never gonna have the vast resources of the houses, so being able to construct & maintain more than a couple of BS's is ludicrous. - Pirate BS's are used to defend their home territory only, not seen gallivanting all over Sirius. - Pirate factions who don't own systems: see my point on Freelancers. - House factions obviously need BS's to defend their vast territory. I say one per system. (that's 4-5 in total i think). To Pirate or not to Pirate - Rogue63 - 05-13-2007 As a freelance pirate, my point of view can go both ways. First of all I don't own a battleship, but I do own a cruiser (an Outcast destroyer, which in the info-card states was a joint Outcast/Rogue venture). But who's to say that a few wealthy people may fund pirate run vessels with crews. Freelancer is in the far future and this is a game, but if we are role-playing I would think there would be some "raider" vessals out there. Back in the old days in the Carribean the the major European powers had people doing exactly this, they were called pirates/buccaneers. Who's to say the future can't repeat the past. If what the majority of the server wants is no pirate battleships or even cruisers some have suggested. Then do a patch and remove them and make them admin authorized. I really like this server, and do not wish it to become a over regulated, like another server I was on. It seems there are people annoyed with battleships and other large capitol ships, but I dont mind them and like the challenges they present. I do agree the battleship or whatever ship you have should match your RP charactor, i.e. no Rogues in Liberty cap ships. For those who want no freelance players in capitol ships be careful for what you wish for. To Pirate or not to Pirate - Qunitinius~Verginix - 05-13-2007 Hmmm I agree with you Caylith, There needs to be a good Role-playing expanation as to why a person would have a battleship. The ONLY RP story for a 'Freelance' battleship that I rememebr was one that I wrote way back in the days of 4.80. It was the story of the KILLFRENZY, I can find a link if you want. However, I beleve pirate factions with the Right RP's that are not related to the Outcasts, Corsairs or Lane Hackers can have battleships. I will say this In my defence of the right to have the Planet Killer. Go read the RP in our faction status post for more info. But most of this stuff remains true. Where do the people get there ships? Why do they have them? It doesn't make sense and I think that we need to have some stricter rules about this in the future. Verginix Out To Pirate or not to Pirate - fwolf - 05-13-2007 If cruisers and battleships cant pirate, why you are discussing it anyway? When a unlawful uses those ships, its to target lawful forces, not traders. As for the battleships, I completely against raising its price. Instead I prefer to put cruisers and battleships in guard systems, and requiring full reputation with the guard faction to buy them. And why the speed of battleships have beem increased? The speed should be the same of cruisers. Now, can you explain to me what is a "freelancer pirate"? Nobody can use freelancer ID after level 40, and capships are beyond this level. Now, if you are considering a "freelancer" as a player who dont join player factions, this smell like more hypocrisy to fuel my flamethrower. You known, "we must protect our interests, so lets flame the loners". There are reasons someone might not join a player faction, the first one being the stupid anti-infocard policy, "oh, we are aligned with pirates, but lets not shot at liberty navy, we are neutral now", or "lets do deal with the junkers so we put them in neutral after their shoted down two of our traders", or perhaps "we agreed our kusari faction and your bretonian faction cant shot at each other, because your leader is my buddy". This makes me laugh. You known, if you join a unlawful faction, or one faction involved in a mod-based war, then the agression will be non-stop. Now, I can imagine some noob joining a player faction just to get rank to be able to buy some destroyer, and after that get quicked by his superiors, because he was not reading the forum and there was a "deal" about a ceasefire because someone in the opposing faction is a "buddy" of some of his superiors. Quite funny isnt is? Now swallow some napalm. To Pirate or not to Pirate - Dab - 05-13-2007 Okay, well I read most of the larger posts in this thread.. *Points to all his pirate chars not using a single BS and only one capship (all explained, RPd, and informed of funding).* (Shortened versions) I have three pirates. [Wraith]Shadow. A Bundschuh Squadron leader of Kusari descent who left Kusari due to the problems there and came to Rheinland. Joined the Bundschuh when it was formed against the corrupt Rheinland government and has been there since. Making mostly political attacks (can be seen in some select GNN threads) and the occasional piracy to fund himself. All completely RP with little OOC said in system [I'll usually use private chat unless saying something to multiple people and it is usually of few words]. Flies a Sabre to keep with the Bundschuh's policy of using Stilettos from the Outcast line, and is allied and aids all in the Outcast alliance, fellow pirates against lawfuls, hostile to Corsairs and their allies, and will not aid either lawfuls or Corsairs [or allies] in any fight involving both at the same time. Rather he will stand back and wait for the fighting to end and kill the winner, or come in on a three way battle. The second; [Kiretsu]Zetsumai. A Golden Chrysanthemum pilot (FEMALE PEOPLE, FEMALE:dry:) who is female following the GC's policies about recruiting men.. She will usually make derogatory comments about the stupidity of men and their incompetence. Usually coming about when she is hopelessly beating them, or they die. (Keep in mind, I'm male, so I have ALOT of ammo.. For insults at least. [Also keep in mind, all RP insults and not personal in any way.]) She flies an Eagle keeping with the policy of GC using Hawks and Falcons from the Civilian/Zoner line. Again, allies of all Outcast Allies, enemies of Outcast's enemies, aids pirates against lawfuls with the exception of Corsairs and their allies, in which she will take place as waiting to kill the victor, or starting a three-way attack which emphasizes on beating either the stronger opponent first, or in times where sides are more even, kills the Corsairs [or allies of them] first. The third; my heavy hitter; Seishou-kaku. A Blood Dragon Talarca. (Would have been GB but was made before BD GBs were added to the game. Contemplating a change.) The RP follows more along the lines of her captain (name of which eludes me for the moment) and his jobs and orders, which are to infiltrate Kusari using the Talarca's smaller size and agility to act as if its a big heavy fighter, not a capital ship. Then to create chaos for the Blood Dragons to take advantage of and use against the Kusari government. Funded by the leadership of the Blood Dragons and their ship creators, the Seishou-kaku was the first Blood Dragon Talarca and given to him. Currently pending an RP story in which I hope to get others to get involved. (Which is why in the last battle he had in Kusari, the ship flew into the Kansai Minefield and went boomy.) Same methods of combat as above, but focuses more on aiding other pirates against house military ships than going in solo. Also, does not pirate to support itself, as it is paid for by the Blood Dragon's leadership. Goes up against bombers/capships first then fighters, leaving the fighters to fight other fighters. Specialized against GBs that will go against the fighters it is protecting. (Ask KNF.. 2 Infernos, 2 BRs, and 4 Dessie missile turrets are quite useful for attacking GBs.) He will also defend Kusari against Bretonia whenever it sees them and/or they invade, as though he is an enemy of the Kusari government, the Blood Dragons are working to replace the corrupt government with the rightful leaders, and are not attacking civilians of Kusari. Therefor, they would defend Kusari just as viciously against the BAF as the KNF would. And that is the reasoning I use in attacking Bretonia. (If anyone has a problem with it, PM me but don't expect me to change it..) Does not go into Rheinland or Liberty. Also occasionally heads to the Omicrons to aid Outcasts against the Corsair GBs (Outcasts don't have GBs). Personally, I don't think any freelance pirates other than Outcasts and Corsairs should have access to battleships. People in pirate PC factions should be allied a few. Like BDR has one, maybe two (Blood Dragons use mostly fighters, and do not rely heavily on anything other than small agile craft). GoR could have multiple ones, TBH multiple ones. HF could have multiple ones (reflecting their much larger size and nature of their RP). Red Hessien factions could have 2-4 depending on PC faction's member count, reflecting the larger size of the Red Hessien's. However, depending on the size of Outcast/Corsair factions they can have many, as they construct them and can easily afford them. For example, if GoR had 30 people [God lets hope it doesn't anytime soon..] they could easily have 10 Outcast Dreadnaughts and it would be justified. If a military had 30, it could justify 15 BSs, showing the more capship-dependancy, while pirates focus more on small fighter craft and bombers. P.S. God I've been making large posts today.. Just ask Korrd and Alpha. *Smirk* To Pirate or not to Pirate - Craines - 05-13-2007 EDIT: Blast it, Dab, you beat me to it! I haven't read your post yet, give me a moment, but this was directly in response to F_Wolf's post. Just so there isn't any confusion. "Clarification is next to cleanliness!" Or, because of RP, we've decided that there should be a ceasefire while the Kusari Government figures itself out, and attempts to purge itself of corruption... And I don't think that anyone who actually stop a war just because he or she is friends with someone on the other side. I know I haven't tried to turn the Phantoms, but Kane, Caylith, Fellow Hoodlum and others are in there, and the first three I consider some of my best buds here on the forums. I sense some aggression in you from the Nomad Turret thread... but this is not the place for that. Freelance pilots, in my limited knowledge, are those players who do not align themselves with any faction because they do not want to be confined by RP, because they do not want to have to follow rules, etc. And it does make sense; how many individuals in real life can fund a blasted battleship without having some connections? And Bill Gates doesn't count. Pirates shouldn't have battleships, but terrorists should. Pirates should pirate. That's really about it. They aren't really out there to hurt innocent civilians; at least, the Blood Dragons, Farmer's Alliance, Hogosha, and other such Kusari pirates aren't. I'm not familar with those outside of Kusari space, so I can't talk about them. F_Wolf, I think you and I should begin to talk through PMs... we can flame each other so much more effectively that way, don't you think? Your call, however; I won't start it. At the very least, we should devote time to a Flood thread. Like a boxing square (or is it ring? But it isn't a ring, it's a square! Grrr, illogical things like that make me hate boxing even more!) or a duck pond. Full of aggression, but with silly things to divert everyone's attention. To Pirate or not to Pirate - TheMaskedOne - 05-14-2007 ((sigh)) Did we start this? If it would make you feel better we could get an outcast dreadnought or to...replacing the Kusari one. OOC of course. ((Pirates are lop sided with lawfuls. There arn't nearly enough pirates on the server to fight the lawfuls. We need to be able to protect our people some way. So im gonna go ahead and use a BS when needed.)) ::Masked_Pirate Out:: |
