it is a shame about the ooc Chat....
and....its also a shame that, recently, most of my rp has happened in green chat....
But, as I havent seen it said yet...yes.
ID is paramount.
Tags are just for flavor, and are, as DO has seen, a bit buggy.

Yeah i hate all the lol stuff in system chat although i do it sometimes in private ^^.

If where thinking of the same faction then they are particularly bad at it, they also don't seem to stick to where they should do with the id they wear.

I see you guys really are into RP. Well thats fair enough, but sometimes, not everyone is in the mood for hardcore RP, and DO NOT say go to the RP (DOH) i mean PvP server. I want to talk to the people i know on THIS server (that im gonna get veteran status in soon hahaha) in MY ship, and i think thats fair.

Now okay if someone is taking the biscuit with leet speak and general spam, get him told, but really if some guys are having a good old chat, its pretty mean to tell them to stop talking.

Space isnt a library.

And whats wrong with "lol"? its quick to say, and i'd prefer someone to say lol instead of HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! in system chat.

I'm not trying to provoke or confront, i'm making my opinion known. All i'm really trying to say is that too many rules makes me a sad panda.

If you want to chat to your friends fine. Use msn.:P

No thats a bit harsh, but if your going to do it get in a group and do it, no need to do it in system chat, you also have to think of other people in system who are trying to RP which is hard with loads of OOC Babble.

Interesting Concern - Unseelie - 09-13-2007

ok...well, its not just you.
posting out of character in system chat, breaks everyone's suspension of disbelief.
so, please, don't mess up our rp.
its important to us.

about space being a library
you can shout all you want.
just remember, you are a million miles from earth, and a thousand years from now.

... Do YOU ever say lol to a joke in RL? OR do you laugh? See? Roleplay...

And lol just looks bad anyways.

From an RP sense, "Haha!" is more appropriate than "lol"

Overall I think the OOC chat is the absolute biggest problem on discovery right now. If the OOC chat was eliminated and punishments were dealt, it would be a COMPLETELY different feel on the RP server. Infact, those who are interested in PVP only, may actually go to the PVP server like they are supposed to!

Now from an administrators perspective, it's hard to know when and when not to punish someone for OOC Chat. Reason for that is, it is quite simple to mistake RP for OOC when the RP'er is sticking to their guns. This problem could be circumvented by OOC reports, giving a chance for the "violator" to explain how something is RP. Admins can make the call if it's BS or not.

Going to look up the rules now, thanks for the link. Been around disco for a long time and I've read the rules plenty of times... Always had to be supplied a link though. Something needs to be done about that.

yes, I know this is technically a double post.

Here is our problem:
Discovery Rules Thread Wrote:3.4 Out-of-character (OOC) chat should not be used for system chat. Using out-of character in roleplaying chat should be marked with "OOC".

The rule is more a suggestion, saying the "OOC:" prefix makes OOC chat in system OK.

Ok just curious how are we ment to laugh in space? you can't actualy make your voice go across the comms you have to type somthing...

Also one of the advantages of the word "lol" is that with Freelancers extreamly limited charachter number for typing in game saying long words is rather difficult.

But yes I also agree that if somone is trying to RP in system chat then others should stop ooc chat but when no one is RP in system then there is nothing wrong with it in my opinion.

I personally believe that OOC in system chat should either be:
  1. Allowed with No Restrictions
  2. Not Allowed at all.
I prefer option #2
