PvP - Wrath - 07-17-2005

On the issue of pvp, is there a sort of equalization for fighter groups attacking another vessel?

2 fighters vs a gunboat
4 fighters vs a cruiser
8 fighters vs a battleship

If we quantify those ships in terms of fighters, then maybe it would be legal for :

4 gunboats vs a battleship
2 cruisers vs a battleship
1 cruiser, 1 gunboat, 2 fighters vs a battleship.

*disclaimer: this is assuming stock builds; customized fleets should be rated on their shield value, and weapons. For example my gunboat is definately of at least a cruiser value.

This could spark up some more *friendly* pvp and perhaps make it more opportunistic for a wide array of ships to be used. Battleship picking on your cruiser? go find a gunboat and 2 fighters. That would be one super awesome battle if you ask me....

Multiple ships are harder to kill, so 8 fighters will surely kill a battleship even without my new anti-battleship thingie... Nova...

160k shield is really short of impossible to take out in a fighter, without Nova of course. Sunslayer torpedos can hit hard, but when that large vessel fires back you're toast. Not to brag, but I suspect it would take at least 4 fighters to take out my gunboat. (the last torpedo fired at me was harmlessly dodged :P)

I was just trying to point out that 2 cruisers are a snack for a battleship..... however looks like you already have a solution, Nova.

PvP - Igiss - 07-18-2005

Nova is like Sunslayer, not faster but delivering 4 times more payload. It's mostly anti-battleship because other ships probably can dodge, and it will still take no less than 3-4 fighters to kill one battleship (8 torpedoes for shield, 6 for hull).

However, Nova is very expensive (costs more than 1,8 million) and is available only at one place. And cannot be mounted on any capital ships.

2 cruisers a snack for a battleship? how's that possible? I thought 2 cruisers have more chances of winning.

About the release - it will be available today evening.

Novaslayers? Do I sense a weapon from the Evolutions mod? >_>

PvP - Wrath - 07-18-2005

Nova sounds like a good idea, battleships have something to worry about.... switching targets to that little torpedo.

Well it really would depend on what kind of cruisers and battleship we were talking about.

To tell the truth, I stole the name from Andromeda TV series and in no way connected to Evolutions. It's just a custom made torpedo based on Sunslayer (with incorrect infocards by the way, don't be mislead).

Attacking everything beyond, from Repair Ship to Large Train, is allowed everywhere and regardless of level. If you are flying a gunboat or cruiser or battleship, anyone may attack you regardless of level too.

Hmm, Im new to this Discovery server, so I might not know all the details but

Tonight I played my first long stint of Freelancer in a long while, and I got to see first hand the amount of firepower that a capital ship can put into space if need be.
And this is my problem with this large freighter are always fair game" idea. Right now Im flying a Humpback, so Im safe. However, I seriously doubt that anything below a Large Transport can survive for very long against a dedicated attack group of 2+ capital ships. And even the largest transporters, I think, can be destroyed fairly easily if the pirates wanted it.
In this regard I agree with xit. If someone attacks me while Im hauling cargo, Im logging out unless Im very confident that I can survive to the closest station. Problem is, that in a ship like a Miner or an Armoured Transport, Im fair game and Im also dead as soon as a capital ship decides that it should be so. I probably wont even have time to hit F1 before Im blown to atoms.

Thing is, when Im hauling cargo, then I do not want to duel against other players. I just want to trade goods and earn money. Give players a card-de-blanc to attack me at any time and place really kills the fun for me. Im constantly at the edge of my seat, dreading the tradelane disrupted message, knowing full well that I can lose millions worth of cargo in the blink of an eye.

Id suggest that all freighters are non-attack ships when within the 4 houses. If they move into the outer areas, then they must accept that there is a certain danger associated with it.
That would mean that traders can trade without too much danger within the civilised space of the 4 houses. But if I want to trade on the high paying routes on the outskirts of house-space, then Ill just have to accept the dangers that I face in the outback

As regards to fighters, I think that they should be open for equal PvP in all areas of the game (perhaps not in Liberty). If youre flying in a fighter, then you must be ready to fight. After all, if you dont want to fight, then why are you flying in a fighter?

To summarize:

When flying in a freighter Im not looking for a fight.
When flying in a fighter or capital ship then I might be looking for a duel. But please, be a gentleman and ask before shooting.

Quote:3. Cases when attacking other players first is not allowed in all systems:
- Players below level 26 flying fighters (any ships, except freighters) - if the attacker is level 26+
- Players flying any original game freighters from Rhino to Humpback. All other transport ships from Repair Ship to Large Train are open for PvP. Also feel free to attack any military capital ships. Basically, all new ships except CSV are allowed for PvP.

Attacking in groups is also prohibited. Besides, escaping a battleship isn't hard at all. They cannot mount cruise disruptors or afterburners. Being cornered by one is a different story... >_>
