Would give people a way to quickly make a legitimate dock, in RP, and reduce the incidents of catastrophic loss of mined cargo.
I believe that has already been done to some extent. I had a relevant experience several months ago, but I can't remember if I was playing on a standard or Discovery (4.82 or 4.83) server (probably a Discovery server). I had just used a jump hole to enter Sigma-13 from either Sigma-17 or Sigma-19. I was attacked by NPCs (either Outcasts or Corsairs) as soon as I entered Sigma-13. After defeating and/or outrunning the NPCs, I needed some repairs. I saw one of the gas miners nearby (an unnamed gas miner, not Gas Miner Naha) and noticed that it was on my radar as a dockable location (it had a different symbol than locations which aren't dockable, such as wrecks, satellites and storage depots). I used F3 to dock with that anonymous gas miner and discovered that I could get repaired there, though I couldn't buy any supplies (not even bots or bats). I was surprised to find that the gas miner had a commodities dealer which sold h-fuel for $5 per unit, so I bought some h-fuel before leaving.:D

Yeah, had the same once, Anywho - if basic minerals are removed from bases as buyable and the drop rates get upped EVEN more - we could well get mining to what it should be.

However - I tend to disagree with the statement, that the "mining" bases - closest to the field should pay good. I'd suggest a compromise: Let those minerals be priced decently - like any random trade route - some 2000 creds per 20 minute run = if ya can fill your hold within 20 minutes - you get 2k credits.

HOWEVER - if you have a buddy in a train, who could do rounds between you - the miner and the industrial base like the Ring, Liepzig, some shipyards, Scarborough etc... - you'll earn at least 3 times more than if you'd be a loner and dropping the goods off at the closest base. That way - it's profitable for the two players on the round - each of them gets 1.5 times more than if he'd be alone and going easy.

I like the idea of increasing the sell and buy credits by 1k and the idea. But i would not set up new statins or make them dockable just because of the miners. There must be some risc in it and pirates should have a chance to find the miners. If this idea will be realized I will also start a mining char.

good idea,, increasing the value of stuff could work...

but if Igiss dont want to do that maybe we could just multiply the number of items that a rock drop

eg. instead of one diamond, it could drop ten

It already was increased once.... and I think it's ok now (it drops some 5-10 per rock I believe)... it should take some time to mine... but the prices are too low yes.

@kingvaillant:
Increasing the number of items would not work because you can not carry more or earn more money with this (if you do not have the cargospace)

i would love to see mining become more profittable....more variety for the working class....me likey!!

I have to agree that mining needs a boost.

I once had a miner in Bretonia and it took about 10 little rocks to get me one drop of gold and that was only 2 gold. But I could go about 5k and dock on a base and buy a full load cheaply very fast.

Also I tryed to mine Artifacts but after 20min in a location that is ment to drop them I had 0 artifacts and gave up.

So though the drops where increased the only way to fill a ship in a resonable ammount of time is with things like water so I think an increase in selling price and a little bit higher drops in some fields.

One of my characters is a Miner. I like mining - but you can't build a character up from scratch mining. I have to set the character up with funds from my trader. The miner is a good RP character - a miner explorer - gives me good reason to visit lots of outlying systems. I do mine in O49 - but it is really a case of making 'milk money'.

Traveling around in the Omegas, taus and Omicrons is expensive - lots of repairs due to radiation and NPC fights. A little mining will pay for these repairs... But I am not going to save up for a cruiser off of mining!

I would love to see mining more profitable.

I would also like to add that Unlike making missions pay out more Mining would be a suitable alternative to trading as having many people mining should not cause lag on the scale of missions (though it may cause more than trading due to loot in space.)
