Character pictures and so forth - jammi - 11-01-2011 Skullz, just a point about your 'avatar' idea. If you see someone dressed like a slut in their Facebook avatar picture, you're not going to assume they dress like that all the time. You are going to assume they're a slut though. So, if your character sees a transmission avatar that's dressed like a... Ah, never mind. You get the idea. If you don't want people to respond in that manner to your character, find a more appropriate one that doesn't give such an extreme first impression. Also, genuine question about character pictures. It's slightly off topic, so sue me: Has anyone else noticed the massive discrepancy between the number of players using pictures of scantily clad women, compared to men? Gives me the impression that there's a lot of boys projecting fantasies on this site. :D Character pictures and so forth - Dab - 11-01-2011 I don't know who sent you the PM, but his opinion matches the opinions expressed by the GRN High Command. Plus some non-HC members too. The way your character appears will always effect how it interacts with others. Just how in real life, how you appear effects how others interact with you. Corporate executives don't show up for meetings with potential clients in inappropriate dress. Especially for meetings with governmental or military representatives. That's what you did, that's going to effect the roleplay of the people you are approaching. Our unanimous opinion was that the GRN characters would not bother responding to a message from a person who presents herself in that manner, and would ignore her until she approaches them more formally and more appropriately attired. A half-naked Junker talking about her family on Ile-de-France and how you want your privileges, does not meet the royalty's definition of decency, formality, or the social protocol in how any Gallic should act or appear. Also, a Mod notice; This is not flood. I'm quickly losing my patience over these past few days of people posting flood-like comments in non-flood sections. I highly suggest you cease doing so quickly, before action is taken on it. You have a forum section for this behavior. Use it, or suffer consequences for breaking the rules of the sections you are posting in. Flood posts removed. Character pictures and so forth - Skullz - 11-01-2011 Only shows that players just go by what they want to see, not what roleplaying is about. O well, those that keep pestering me about that I should choose another picture, No. I find a picture that was suitable to the characterisation of Marine. Conclusion so far. Make transbars for every conceiveable type of encounter. Edit: And those talking about that they have seen the picture of my character on where ever you found it, saying where you found it or suchlike is not on topic. Please go on topic, or leave this thread alone, thank you. Character pictures and so forth - Zelot - 11-01-2011 Just like in anything you do in real life, here the image you put out of yourself or your characters effects the way other people or characters respond. Funny little story, might be a bit off topic, a while back I decided I was going to use a silly avatar to see if it changed how people interacted with me. I noticed a very distinctive change in my interaction and changed quickly back to my more stogy, grumpy avi. Also, Quote:If you see someone dressed like a slut in their Facebook avatar picture, you're not going to assume they dress like that all the time. You are going to assume they're a slut though. Not only is this dead on, but it also made me and my friend Vern laugh very hard. No I think the point is that if you dont want your character treated like a slut, dont make the pic representing that character dressed like a slut. Character pictures and so forth - Skullz - 11-01-2011 lol, how on topic that is Zelot. No its not that. lol. Character pictures and so forth - Loken - 11-01-2011 It really is. It's also a perfectly valid point. Character pictures and so forth - Snak5 - 11-01-2011 So your character would send government a picture of halfnaked herself? Good roleplay, Mam. Character pictures and so forth - Zelot - 11-01-2011 ' Wrote:lol, how on topic that is Zelot. No its not that. lol. I don't think you have a grasp on the topic. The topic is about how the images used to represent characters effect the role play interactions you have. Character pictures and so forth - Jeremy Hunter - 11-01-2011 Now, personally, I use Kingdom Hearts cuz its who represents my characters best. And, I use mostly shoys of thier head for a reason. Said reason, is so that I can describe, if needed, thier current attire in detail, and not worry about a contrasting picture. Using mostly headshots would help actually. Most people just need a visual of the face really. Full view pics can stay for signatures. And honestly, Skullz, when I see Marine's Commbar, I expect her to attempt to get a character in bed or something. Jammi's remarke is dead on. |
