Yes it was. And it was the best one in my opinion.

I'd love to see old messages back, as they were somehow good looking and usable for roleplay in message dumps, bounty boards, etc.

Quote:Anyway, the messages were "X was put out of action by Y" for standard kills, "X has suffered a self-inflicted catastrophic decompression" for planet-diving or sun-diving, and something about a "Self administered loadout error" for suicide by mines or something. I think there were a few other clever ones in there, but I can't recall.

That gets my vote.

tbh, I always preferred those old messages we had.

Death: X was put out of action by Y. (Gun)
Death: X suffered a self inflicted catastrophic decompression.
Death: X has suffered a self-administered loadout error. (Mine)
Death: X was devided by zero.

I agree with ae.

On the other hand if it's only between killed and destroyed my vote sits with destroyed.

Yep.

Goes like this way:
If I killed you...that means that you're dead,how can I meet you again in the space if you're dead,what are you then...a ghost! *I wonder *
You can't "kill" my ship, how can you in general, but you can "destroy" my ship and I can be saved
in my capsule(life p.) sure,ok...logical.
If you "killed" me, it also means that my name(char)no longer exists, literally.
So, "destroyed"...Ye!

I recall something about Schrödinger's Cat.

I liked that one.

When I get some time I will figure out how to change it up. But it actually might take some time, most of us admins are very busy at the moment with 4.86 development and real life. This is a very low priority thing. I agree it makes sense to change it, and when there is time I will.

The stuff that you need to change is near the start of FLHook.ini
Code:
DeathMsgTextPlayerKill=Death: %victim was killed by %killer (%type)
DeathMsgTextSelfKill=Death: %victim killed himself (%type)
DeathMsgTextNPC=Death: %victim was killed by an NPC
DeathMsgTextSuicide=Death: %victim committed suicide
DeathMsgTextAdminKill=Death: %victim was killed by an admin
So it should be like this if we're going to use the old messages again:
Code:
DeathMsgTextPlayerKill=Death: %victim was put out of action by %killer (%type)
DeathMsgTextSelfKill=Death: %victim suffered a self administered loadout error (%type)
DeathMsgTextNPC=Death: %victim died
DeathMsgTextSuicide=Death: %victim suffered a self inflicted catastrophic decrompression
DeathMsgTextAdminKill=Death: %victim was killed by Schrodinger's cat
I miss Schrodinger's cat. We need that one back at the very least.
