Lemme see... 10 personal accounts. About 45 ships total.
And add to this also ~30 shared accounts (1-2 ships perc acc)

32 ships accross those accounts.
18 characters to fly each ship. Most only have one ship, about 5 or so characters fly more than one ship.
That's not including a few inherited ships/characters, plus the utterly ludicrous amount of shared ships that I have the accounts for.
At a rough count, I have access to 86 shared individual ships (not accounts).
An afterthought: All my accounts are sorted by faction. Ageira ones are together, HF ones are together, Maquis are together, and then the truly independent ships get thrown in together. It's nicely organised and easy to access.
I do really have too many ships to fly, and I should get rid of them. Dane said earlier that he has some "tool" ships, what I like to call "commerce" ships, that are just money-making mules without a lot of character or flavour. In contrast to that, I'd say that at least every personal (not shared) ship has a character behind it with an idea, be it interesting or uninteresting, that provides a basis from which I could develop the character. The catch is that I've come up with too many ideas, and thus too many characters, to develop most of them.
If I had to rate my own characters, I'd say that my main HF character is the most developed character, even if he did not begin with the most complicated idea. He's grown and changed from the encounters (combat and non-combat) that he's had. My most complicated character is easily an AI inspired by a certain Dutch instrumentalist's progressive metal opera. My second most developed character is my main Ageira trader captain, who's grown as his ship has changed and been upgraded. He's gone from a more enthusiastic and active worker to a more sage and relaxed individual - perhaps it reflects my attitude towards the game, as the character started as a very "self"-character.

Edit: In all seriousness though, I have something along the lines of 35 personal ships across 10 accounts. Then on top of that an absolutely insane number of shared accounts, for factions and the suchlike.
I should probably attempt to rationalise the whole lot at some point, but it seems like a lot of effort.

I have a spreadsheet with all my characters and accounts data. I'm currently at around +45 characters and 24 accounts, but my fine updated spreadsheet allows me to quickly know what character I'm playing, special information, et cetera.
