Trader - pirate interaction. What's your take on this? - Robert.Fitzgerald - 06-06-2008 Cruise disruptors work fine. Engine disruptors would be too powerful... If you want a trader to stay still, blast him until he get's the point. Trader - pirate interaction. What's your take on this? - Elvin - 06-06-2008 There are pirates who dont even know what RP is, and just think that pirating means fastest way to earn money. It took me a week to recover from certain situation: Junker tag/IDed, Im taking 5000 Cardamine units from O-Alpha... I am stopped by Outcast(IFF, ID, indie) in gunboat saying "5miol"...After while of silence I asked "Can you repeat plese?" answer "5mil or die", I have just told "Is that a joke?" and get killed and cardamine destroyed. What the hell is that? Im encountering things like that pretty often last days... Just what the hell is Outcast trying to tax cardi smuggler and destroying cardi dropped? And 5 millions? Isnt that little too much? And speaking, no,no saing "5m" or "5m or die" surely IS GREAT RP. Sure, some ppls running away, or lawfulls incomming can make pirate to little skip long dialogue... altough those "Xmio r die" are real pain in the rear. Being pirate should be more about the fun, not about making 50millions per hour... And asking for more than 2millions, or even 5 millions, its more than cargo is worth or even someone cant afford to pay it... Ilready saw pirate asking lvl 41 player for 3 millions, what I think is rather bad. And important thing, Im not flaming pirates, just some "cool" individuals... Accept that being pirate is more about enjoing it and making enough to keep you alive, not to make you lvl 90 in 2 days... Trader - pirate interaction. What's your take on this? - beander2 - 06-06-2008 I'm with those traders who like to RP with the pirates, that is, if they're willing. I'll often ask why they're pirating - I'm interested in their reasons for that life, their motives for turning to piracy. I'll almost always pay extra if there's a good conversation, and some might even find me a bit sympathetic to their motivations, which also usually results in more credits to them. Of course, the "2 mil or die" folks will have to really have an advantage to get me to pay. Oh, and the type who orders me to halt from 5K away when I'm right by a TL or a JG with a convoy and bomber escort (as happened once), they can pretty much forget it. Trader - pirate interaction. What's your take on this? - looqas - 06-06-2008 It's almost like in RL with those yellow page phone numbers. People pay more to someone who just has a conversation with them. Traders are paying extra for a good conversation. Good point Trevelyan. I need to ask why they are doing thing they are doing? I've never actually thought about asking it. Good tip to get some conversation going. Trader - pirate interaction. What's your take on this? - guardian - 06-06-2008 When I come across a pirate, the more he/she talks the better. I enjoy the entertainment value of good RP. The more creative and knowledgeable about the faction they represent, the better in my book. Like Trev, I'll pay a bonus for it. I cringe and want to be blown up by the "2 mil or die" crowd. Get the boredom over with fast. guardian Trader - pirate interaction. What's your take on this? - Primus Avatar - 06-06-2008 I'm a trader myself, most of the time. I've encountered lots of different pirates. Most try to RP, but its not logical... What do you think about this RP: 1) I was flying through the Hokkaido sector, carrying Niobium to my pal who is a big shot merchant at the Ring. I had bought the best ship a wealthy trader can buy, i had no need for protection as average pirates cant hope to harm me. I had a lot of dealings with their kind so i got used to just shoot them down if they appear in a light fighter. as i watched the sun slowly move on my right a missile blew my shields to 95%. I looked up at my radar an saw a small vessel approaching at normal cruise speed. "Stop!" he said! "That's my line..." my shields were now at 98.7% and i dint stop yet. Sometimes its good to just keep observing. "Stop!!!" His voice became louder. "Why? Is there a reason?" Strangely, the distance became bigger. He soon became aware that i wasn't going to obey him. Well why should I? If he shoots before he speaks hes nothing more than a bully, a terrorist. And I didn't spend all my fortune on top-notch shields and almost invulnerable engines just to be brought down by some punk flying a black trash can. "STOP" he said again... 2 missiles that followed were harmless and increased the distance by 2K. This also showed his poor piloting abilities. (having to slow down to fire some ineffective distruptors?) "You're pathetic..." And another problem with pirates not being logical in their attempt to rob people is: When i was flying through an asteroid field a single red dot appeared on my radar... it was a hostile pirate vessel 13k away from me. "Halt! Stay where you are!" "Why?" i continued my cruise...slowly the voice of the pirate was familiar, so i didn't turn on the cruise engine but continued my flight towards the next jump hole. "Do not move!" I got bored so i stopped and watched as he approached. the distance was now 12k. A moment later it was back to 13k, then 12k again....then 13k... As i observed i learned that he was having problems with asteroids AND he was in the opposite direction of my destination, so it seemed i had an advantage of 12.5K??? Why the h*ll should I wait? I turned on my cruise engine and the pirate was lost from my radar. I know what some of you are thinking. There are no implemented blockades in the game, so you think I should just go with the story and wait for them to steal my precious belongings. WELL IT AIN'T THAT SIMPLE (being a pirate and all) there are better cruise distruptors, teamwork, RP lines.. If you want to sit there doing nothing and just wait others (i mean traders) bring their credits to you THAN YOU HAVE TO SHOW SOME SKILLS!!!! How do you expect to scare a great businessman like me with paper rockets and trash cans? I hope you people understand... its not fun, its not logical, its not fair for me to have to sit there and let n00bs take all my hard earned credits. Trader - pirate interaction. What's your take on this? - Screenlag - 06-06-2008 New berlin you say... I may be one of those who makes the run and succes, though I've been catched there once. But yes, I enjoy communcating in a RPish way Trader - pirate interaction. What's your take on this? - Geisha_Maiko - 06-06-2008 Greedy pirates are the one that probally started the whole anti-RP, traders vs pirates thing. '2mil or die' is a pittiful excuse for RP, and i stated this before in other threads----just to get flamed to death. My take on the subject: If a pirate takes the time to talk and RP's----adding to the value of our RP SERVER...then i'll RP along, stop my ship and reward the pirate (if my profits are extra good that day, he'll get a bonus). ---------- Give you an example of yesterday: I am flying my advance train in Hokkaido......there is a pirate with a {} tag i hadnt seen before. This person is pretty talkactive. He does the 'care to make a donation to' line. At one point point, he even mentions that he Doesnt have a CD or anything to stop me. I park at a jumphole and we chat a bit more while i dig threw my purse for my credz card. He got a donation---without even firing a shot......(and if i had more $$$$ on me, i would of gave it to him. ) Why???----Becasue he RP'ed. ...and that is what this server is all about. Trader - pirate interaction. What's your take on this? - tk9780 - 06-07-2008 Pirates that take time to RP and those pirates who dont mind the exchange of friendly insults & fire [RP] Really cant abide pirates whos RP exchange is 2m or die or those pirates who operate with improper FL Rep. Ive escaped from more pirates than Ive actually paid. Then Ive been destroyed a few times, although Ive also killed a few who just wouldnt give up. |
