reasoning is that there's already a ton of bounty hunter npc's in the cloud, whereas there arent any navy/lsf/lpi npcs in there.

You only get lawful npc's patrolling along the outer edges of the cloud, and around ithaca - or spawning in the cloud for rogue/outcast missions on buffalo.

CAN they? yes.

should they? only if pursuing directly behind a target, and only if a number of lawful fighter/bombers are involved.

they should never pursue more then halfway in, certainly never as far as buffalo.

I'm not sure about the reasoning behind of this, Puck. Why would they cease chase before Buffalo if they don't know what lies ahead? As far as the people who have no idea that Buffalo even exists, the escaping character might as well be trying to lose them inside the asteroid field. If they went to the trouble of entering the cloud, maybe they'll go all the way in the hopes that the guy will eventually leave or make a mistake inside the asteroid field.

Not going to vote on this one I can remember a few chases into there that were quite fun at the same time I can remember undocking from Buffalo and seeing a liberty dreadnaught sitting there.

The chase that stands out most though was when StarSerpent (me in a spyglass) got chased into there from Goliath (LSF carrier) that was my attempt to get from Conneticut back out of New York alive which I just barely achieved with the Texas jump hole. Was quite a comical chase though with 2 huge Battleships trying to get through the Badlands.

I did find all the chases through there fun and sometimes the npc's would turn the odd's in my favour they can make a big difference but at the same time I'd hate to see Buffalo camped again.

Some people are very good at flying through there, my rogue fighter was chased once by a liberty cruiser through there, the cruiser had no trouble maneuvering, and I had to use open space to loose him.... since I wasn't about to lead him to buffalo but thats not to say he should have chased me.. heh.

I frequently use the Badlands as a blind for getting contraband through NY.

Sadly, while I avoid the law this way, I end up getting pirated. At least the good ones are willing to offer scouting and combat escort for a few credits more.

You haven't seen me in there then:laugh:Just because it's some 40k of dense rocks in either direction, that doesn't mean one has to fly through 40k of dense rocks.

I know you can fly *over*. But that takes some of the chance of player interaction (counterpoint: and some of the frustration) out of it.

Plus I'm usually coming from the Texas JH when coming in. Its proximity to Buffalo leaves an innocent double-dealing smuggler very vulnerable till he gets clear.

When I flew a rogue gb as a pirate, I'd travel over or under the badlands pretty often, especially when running from the law. I get just above the cloud and they get stuck trying to manuver through rocks while I have open space to fly through. It also allowed quicker and easier travel through the cloud to either norfolk or west point.
