RE: Star Citizen - Did you pledge & what do you expect? - KamiKatze - 02-01-2015 I had very high hopes the day I heard about SC and watched the verry first interviwes/descriptions. Then there came all the collected madness I like to call pledge-manai... Are devs today not able to "JUST" release a frickin finished game without preorder/pledge/microtransactions mother*ppeeeep-peeep-peeep* that puts those as a disadvantage who just want to play a game and just want to earn stuff ingame through.. you know PLAYING THE GAME?!.. Anyway - stopped caring bout it to avoid being dissapointed bout it.. might try it when it's out but by then I will be so far behind everyone else who payed for stuff it might not be enyoable.. but who knows /endrant RE: Star Citizen - Did you pledge & what do you expect? - Echo 7-7 - 02-01-2015 (02-01-2015, 11:35 AM)Mexica Wrote: Is it gonna be play4free? No. The final game will be pay-to-play with one payment, like traditional PC games, for those who aren't already backers and have access to the complete game. It's pretty hard to entice people to pledge for an entirely crowdfunded game without offering something extra in return. Spotted Narcotic posting on the SC forum so I thought I'd follow him here to poke fun and I spotted this thread as a result. While things are moving ahead with SC I would treat any set of release dates with the most tremendous grain of salt that you can lay hand on. I'm talking planetoids here. Something that has the kind of gravitational pull that you can use for landing in Kerbal Space Program. Here is where things are as of now. If you missed out on an alpha pass you will need to pay $5 to access each of the modules. Arena Commander. FPS. Social and so on. Each module will cost an additional $5 when it's released. Arena Commander is online and running. It is tremendously pay to win at the present and the systems to earn equipment that is on sale has not been incorporated, nor has a system to reclaim stuff that you purchased that turns out to be garbage. This side of their business model is firmly set in cashgrab mode and it's a steaming pile of shit. However the flight is improving, though still shockingly poor and lacking in what you might consider a firm design direction for its months of development after being released over half a year late. I believe that it's rather fun to fly around and that a quality game is in there, but man is it super alpha at present. I believe that the Beta will be pretty sick and, based on the pace of the game, either at the end of this year or sometime in the next. Being said if they meet their goal of a gold release by 2016 I'll volunteer to gently lather my unmentionables in the boiling magma flow of a volcano that we can select through community vote. My personal prediction is commercial release in 2018 (or when the money runs out). Being said I believe that simply buying an Aurora level pledge with beta access is a really sweet deal if your mindset is "don't care until it's done". It'll be cheaper than the game on release and you can walk away without spending thousands of dollars on a lifetime of horrific attempts at justifying your life choices. P.S. Star Citizen is very, very Freelancer 2.0 Those who approach it from that perspective will not be let down, I believe. I'll always remain loyal to Discovery. *cough* (02-09-2015, 03:57 PM)Dusty Lens Wrote: If you missed out on an alpha pass you will need to pay $5 to access each of the modules. Arena Commander. FPS. Or is the "alpha pass" thing dependant on joint date? Whatever, the 'slideshow' is nice to watch... once. Though, I like how they've done the engine optimization. I've never run a game/program, that used 100% of my CPU, GPU & RAM constantly. Pretty impressed. #pcmasterrace? If they'll really release the SP campaign & PU this year (end) already, I'll probably have to save some moneyz for a new rig yet already... I've taken the Freelancer+ package with all them (unneeded) physical goods, and still thought I've made a nice deal. Unfortunately, it's not available anymore now. Actually I've sworn to not spend any cash on it, until the release, but... IT'S AWESOME! SPACESHIPS! NEED MORE! No, I'm mature. (02-09-2015, 03:57 PM)Dusty Lens Wrote: P.S. Star Citizen is very, very Freelancer 2.0 I can confirm. I like everything about it so far. Looks really like a spiritual successor to me. Except for the community. They sometimes seem to be so naive. Maybe it's because they've never played a space sim before (or haven't even been born to play one). Half of them coming from Call Of Duty, and being all "SC is all about the AC scoreboard (and graphics lol)", and the other half from EVE "We're the true space sim vets and know everything & better than you!". However, if you're not annoyed by the hype and dumb discussions about "OMG PIRATES WILL SUCK QQ" and people being all "Yeah, I've spent 10.000$, have 5k posts and thus am better than you.", you might get along with them. Actually not very different from Disco forums, just a few more people (who however wouldn't play an "graphically outdated" game like Freelancer). Or maybe it's just me, having this "nostalgic-veteran-elitism-sickness" and don't feel others worthy of being part of Roberts new space sim. Or I simply envy their LTI swag, Super Hornet REKT & "I can buy everything"-attitude. I mean, I don't show off with my... ...either. Oh, now I did. I'm soo special!!! I have something you cannot have. Nananana na! Look what a few days on these forums have done to me... Halp. RE: Star Citizen - Did you pledge & what do you expect? - Dusty Lens - 02-09-2015 If you look at your Freelancer+ package it might have an 'alpha access' pass on it somewhere? Without the ArCom pass you can still wander around in your hangar and observe the beauty that is the Freelancer. The forums as a whole are generally referred to as "The Brown Sea" for reasons which make themselves apparent following a brief moment of acquaintance. The current flavor of discussion, as you may have observed, is that of piracy and it's conjured a polarized discussion of tremendous fever. Last time I looked at general I believe there were ten independent conversations on the topic. It's all very charming. When I need filtered news I'll check reddit. If I want double filtered news that just gives me the good stuff without listening to someones nonsense opinion on the subject I turn to imperialnews.network The current level of optimization is, and I quote, "lol". As per one of the Austin office developers. The install size of 20 gigs is jaw dropping and without a SSD it takes me about 10 minutes to load my hangar. On the plus side! The game looks and sounds flipping amazing. I'm not even kidding. I'm cynical as balls and I cannot say that the visuals in this game are anything short of extraordinary. The game that comes with those visuals is chunky as heck right now, but you can still have fun doing stupid stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBTLdyW4rE4 RE: Star Citizen - Did you pledge & what do you expect? - Narcotic - 02-09-2015 It says "Beta Acess". Still, from the Hangar (entering menu), I can access "Arena Commander" and do Free Flight, Vanduul Swarm, Races etc. I clearly can't complain. Haven't tried multiplayer as I'm not interested in choppy unbalanced fights. I tend to just watch those videos being uploaded to the Star Citizen youtube channel and sometimes clicking myself through the recommends. Satisfies me well enough. As for the performance, I've been surpised that it even started on my laptop (i5, 660m, 8GB). Though, didn't dare to waste my precious 120GB SSD space for it. Starts from my HDD in ~3 minutes (of course much longer than other games still). I wonder how they'll manage to fit the game on the "16GB Spaceship-shaped USB stick" as they planned to. That's probably going to be just the ship models on it. I swear, the physics are going to be so fun to mess with. Hopefully they'll be applied to stations, asteroids and everything you can ram your ship into. And I hope, that this insurance thing won't be much of an issue, as I wouldn't want to be that careful with my ship all the time. And have other's hide & run like people already do in Disco where dying has like zero consequences... I've read, that even your character dies after a certain number of deaths. That'd somehow destroy the roleplay aspect for me. That'd somehow destroy the roleplay aspect for me. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/engineering/12879-Death-Of-A-Spaceman Well it certainly flies in the face of Discovery Roleplay. Where a race of quasi immortals with supernatural luck survive tremendous bodily harm with nary a scratch beyond the acquisition of a chronic desire to sigh at the initiation of RP posts. The running notion is that if you should have your ticket punched that you'll wake up in a hospital with some level of superficial physical damage. The replacement of a limb with a cybernetic one and other such tells. This is if your toon dies mind you, by bleeding out, exposure to space or some other ill. If your ship is cooking and you pull a classic Disco "eject" and make it to safety you're good and fine once you get picked up. I've no idea how it'll pan out in the long run. I can see ways in which it could be abused. The physics right now is pretty Freelancer. I think the detection systems are much more interesting at the present and will present the more complex game mechanic. But, you know. Time will tell and all that razz. RE: Star Citizen - Did you pledge & what do you expect? - SMGSterlin - 02-10-2015 I expect space CoD. I also expect a lot of butthurt fans when it's released because it didn't live up to their own hype. EDIT: Actually, it will probably be more like space Battlefield, because controllable vehicles, close enough though. RE: Star Citizen - Did you pledge & what do you expect? - Sir_Now - 02-10-2015 I bought an Avenger, for 75 usd i think. Im hoping for a Freelancer 2.0. My name overthere is Omega100 and i joined a police/navy group called the 9th. (hope they are better in battle then the Liberty Navy, lol.) I havent seen an organization of Discovery players yet, can you start one Narcotic? Then we can all join you, would be fun. I'm not shure if i would recommend anyone paying for the game at this moment. I think it's all going very slow, and i wonder if they will get the bugs out on time. I would rather see them make everything ok, then releasing a crappy game yust because it's 2016 and they think they have to. But with the 100 million or more they will probably get that should work not? Well we will see in 2016 or 2017 or maybe even 2018...
