The only No. 1 place to get information about Discovery Freelancer is the infocards in Discovery Freelancer.
Infocards only give a very "small" version of info and often very outdated aswell.

The wiki is not an "official" source of information. Players can put faction and character backgrounds/stories there that aren't recognized as part of the "canon lore" by the mod and official server. Infocards are though.
It's very comparable to Wikipedia. Your average teacher/professor will moan about it being "open source" and thus unreliable, but it's still often as accurate and useful as more widely accepted sources. Although the Disco wiki is maintained by relatively few people and is - I believe - quite outdated.
