RE: Renaissance - Thunderer - 01-07-2019 Captain Edward Neville was sitting at his desk aboard the Thunderer. The ship had been moved to the New Holland system days ago to reinforce the Stirling fleet. Her armament was not ideal for fighting Valors. Currently, for yet another time, the captain was facing Zoner protesters. Sometimes they were violent, though no real threat, but this time they were relatively peaceful. They did, however, make quite a lot of chaos. They exploited the Thunderer's aging software and uploaded a virus which caused the ship's speakers to play a modern, modified version of "Let the Sunshine In". That had been going on for at least a dozen minutes already. Captain Neville was an old man with a long service, and thus very proud of himself and even arrogant, but traditional and mistrusting of anything new. But contrary to his ego, he was, in his crew's opinion, not fit to replace Hall. Dissatisfaction was rising, which he usually attempted to counter by strict discipline. It was not working, and the Zoners' sabotage of the sound systems did not help. And then, after having filled in a file, in the middle of all the noise and annoyance, he noticed a letter in his neural net mailbox. It was from Admiral Steiner, and it asked him if the Thunderer had a free place for a certain woman to fill in. Neville did not like women aboard ships, nor doing what he deemed men's jobs. But this woman was the prior captain's daughter, and he expected that accepting her service aboard the ship would win him some favour from the crew. Next morning, Elizabeth found an unread message in her mailbox. It invited her to start military training aboard Winchester next day at 8 in the morning. She packed her basic luggage promptly. RE: Renaissance - Thunderer - 02-09-2019 A humped figure was limping towards a back entrance of the Steiner mansion. It walked with a cane in its left hand and its right hand was covered with bandages. It was raining and all the figure had was a naval hat and a somewhat worn out uniform. The shoulders were soaked wet, the lower sleeves were singed and the thighs had traces of dry blood. But the weather did nothing to disturb the usual activities at the state -- a grand reception of a number of important BMM contractors was currently held. The figure knocked, wearily, on the back door, but it had to wait for some time as the reception had made the house service very busy. When it finally opened, it revealed the face of no other than Victor Steiner, the youngest of them and ordered around by his elder brothers as usual. He recognized Elizabeth beneath the battle damage and, combined with the suddenness of everything, it took his words away and replaced them with a helpless gape -- but their one second stare was enough to exchange a thousand words. Elizabeth then collapsed into his arms. Her cane fell half over the sill and, as wet and slippery as a snake, slowly slid into the house. Victor kicked it inside by accident when he tried to reinforce his balance. RE: Renaissance - Victor Steiner - 02-11-2019 He held the fainting woman in his arms, a stunned silence impeding his thought process for a few moments as he tried to deal with what was going on. John!.....John! He shouted as he recovered his wits and dragged the girl in. A few moments later John showed up at the word closely followed by a servant, he saw what had happened and immediately set about picking the girl up with Victor and taking her to the bedroom. What on earth did you do to her? John asked, before dismissing a servant to find his medic bag. I didn't do anything, she just collapsed on me when I opened the door. They made it to the bedroom and gently placed her in an armchair Elizabeth? Victor said while John took his bag from the servant and set about preparing a dose of something. About this time, Edmund happened upon the suspect scene, in which Victor was feeling the girls pulse (although it looked like he was strangling her) and John looked like he was preparing to give the poor girl an overdose in case the strangulation didn't work. What in the hell are you doing? he asked Trying to see if she's alright. Victor replied, Edmund knelt down beside his brother. Can you hear us my lady? RE: Renaissance - Thunderer - 02-11-2019 She was soaked with rain, but sweating. And the sweat was colder than the rain. She had a cartilage contusion in her spine and second degree burns over her right hand fingers. She had been on active duty and revived the latter injury several times before it could heal, but the prior finally put her out of action for some time. Her arrival in such a shape was part of a larger scheme, but the pain which it had caused her was not. She was a fragile type, physically, and despite the strength of her will and determination, not used to such stoic efforts. She was currently twisting in the armchair, her body trying to resolve the subjective lack or air. Her eyes gazed upwards, as if they were looking for a guardian angel. A few tears slid down from them. She spoke, quietly, between her wheezes: "I don't look", she took another difficult breath, "attractive in this, do I?" RE: Renaissance - Victor Steiner - 02-11-2019 Edmund and Victor were both taken aback and looked at one another Er..oh yes, absolutely Victor started Quite right, a real gem few can compare with. Edmund said following his brothers lead while John was still mucking around with the painkillers. Yes why just the otherday the earl of Westmoreland was over hear asking after you Victor finished, with Edmund giving him a confused look. By now John had finished whatever he was doing and came over, giving the girl an injection. That'll ease the pain. Right lads, get her on to a hard surface so we can figure out what the story is. Gently now, that's the one. The slowly lowered her on to the floor while john began looking over her The painkillers ought to be kicking in by now, how are you feeling my dear? RE: Renaissance - Thunderer - 02-11-2019 "Later...", her lips let slide out as she closer her eyes, "I want to sleep." She was still very wet and sleeping like that would probably catch her a pneumonia, as frail as she is. RE: Renaissance - Victor Steiner - 02-11-2019 John stood up and consulted with his Brothers She's freezing, she can't sleep in those clothes otherwise she'll get sick and we still don't know what she's done to herself. Wait a minute Victor said You want us to undress her? No, we need to. I don't much care for it either but it is what we need to do. John retorted. Well...we can't do it Edmund said Better get one of the maids in to do it, at least they can...navigate.The other two brothers looked at him with some surprise on their faces Navigate? what on earth are you talking about? John asked before continuing Victor learnt how to navigate quite some time ago. Whatever Gaian lover. Look the point is, we can't do it so lets all step outside and ask one of the maids to do it. I'm sure they'll understand. With that they all stepped outside and summoned a young girl by the name of Mary who was a maid and assistant to Alfred. Upon explaining the situation to her, she laughed and proceeded to enter the room while the boys lingered in the hallway, smoking and drinking. RE: Renaissance - Thunderer - 02-15-2019 It was tomorrow's morning and Elizabeth's eyes were swaying on the verge between dream and reality. They were basking in the complete whiteness of her bedroom. A knock on the door pushed her into one of the two abysses, and she touched down in the real world. "Enter...", she groaned reluctantly. It was Victor. While most would, after a sleep, ask for the time, Elizabeth was disoriented enough to ask him what date it was. RE: Renaissance - Victor Steiner - 02-15-2019 That would be the fifteenth of February. He replied, somewhat surprised. He sat down next to her on a chair and waited for a few moments to see if she'd recover. How are you feeling? You gave us quite a turn. What on earth were you doing stumbling home that late at night? we could have sent someone around to collect you? What were you doing? RE: Renaissance - Thunderer - 02-17-2019 "Collect me?", she tested the ground to see if it was informal enough to allow resistance. "And if I was my father's son, would you still collect me?" |
