If that - I will post it on the forums. RE: Disabling Set Messages - Aazalot - 08-27-2019 The issue with this being removed is much what alot of people above say. Set messages are useful for when your needing to chase someone down or tell them to stop. i have 2 Set messages that i use on my GRP, one announces my officer and they are part of the GRP and the second ask's them to cut engines. After that i will type depending on what they do or dont do. The problem here again its been said is your punishing those who use it responsibly because of a few who decided not to. Its hard enough trying to type out what can be considered a decent RP engagement when alot is already going on, wether thats trying to get a trader to stop, to engaging in a group fight. I cant tell you the amount of times ive nearly or have died because i was trying to make a decent engagement post just to make sure noone cried about me joining the battle. All thats going to happen is your going to see MORE 2 line dialogues since not everyone can type at the speed of light and less interactions via pirates and potentially police because its easier not to try. RE: Disabling Set Messages - Sombs - 08-27-2019 https://www.autohotkey.com Easy to learn, useful for Jump Coordinates or longer setmsgs, doesn't bypass swearfilters or anything. I decide to go powertrade. I'm stopped by a pirate, and continuously attempt to cruise from the interaction. Now that the pirate has to stand around and type messages for my silent, non-RPing ass, I get away, having returned no interaction for his attempt. You've made it easier for people to get away, and opened an opportunity for some silent munt to report a pirate because the messages "weren't long enough." If the person refuses to answer to your CDs after dropping a line such as "Shut down your engines", and keeps cruising away, you are entitled to destroy him. That's literally all you need to do, it's not hard. I don't see how dropping two macros is gonna make that encounter any different. The problem with that is, attacking someone after only saying shut down your engines, i bet you would be considered "Not enough Rp" and you would get your butt Reported RE: Disabling Set Messages - Loken - 08-27-2019 I knew this would be contentious, which is why I asked for feedback. Nothing is set in stone. It is very difficult to type out roleplay notices (engagement or not) and to stop the person who is spamming cms and trying to cruise away. There are already several features of the game that are accepted that enable this sort of behavior, setmsgs are a balancing mechanic in that sense. The people abusing this to break the rules should be punished individually rather than stripping the mechanic from the collective who are not all using it maliciously. I feel the same way here, this is unnecessary and has no benefit. The pros of this feature far outweigh the cons and I seriously doubt disabling it will make a significant difference in the rules being broken. I am also rather attached to my diemsgs, they going as well? Please no. While it is true that the oft misquoted saying is that "a few bad apples spoil the bunch", punishing the majority for the actions of... well, we know who triggered this, is not a good way to go about things. I personally do not use set messages that much - but I do have them - for pirates and lawfuls alike, traders and battle vessels - you never know when you'll need to move quickly. To put another perspective: I type fast, and I have no difficulties with english - but I am a wordy MF; typing out in depth RP is simply not always an option - nor is it desired if its the 15th repetition of "RO: Guten Tag Kollege!" Punish the rule-breakers, but please don't remove a great feature. RE: Disabling Set Messages - Saronsen - 08-27-2019 Well it's either setmsg or third party programs that might result in abuse by other fellows. There's no way in hell I'm going to type out a long message for a transport flying my way as a lawful instead it's just going to be STOP FOR A SCAN and ENGAGING FLEEING TARGET if they take off 9/10 good change in retaliation to a bunch of slavs abusing it RE: Disabling Set Messages - Mephistoles - 08-27-2019 Good. Set messages should've been disabled a long time ago. /l1 /l2 is a poor, often abused excuse for roleplay prior to attacking someone and frankly if you're flying your trader and can only type /l1 Greetings #t! I'd rather you either type something proper or nothing at all. RE: Disabling Set Messages - Freeport7 - 08-27-2019 I don't agree with this decision. I think setmsgs could be a pretty fun thing! i enjoy setting up general-NPC-like messages such as "Enemy on my Six" or "I'm taking too much damage, initiating evasing manuvers" to use quickly while fighting. It's nice. it's fun. Don't take away the nice things because of a few bad people please. |
