As an aside, if anyone wants to record, could you send me over raw footage afterwards? Preferably with weapon sounds on, but music off and no VC chatter. It'd be cool to create a multiple POV supercut afterwards.

Reminder that the Pelican will fight to the death while escorts are alive, but will surrender and transfer Pilots if the escorts are killed and its reduced to low HP.
Killing the Pelican and trying to tractor the pilots is completely valid, but it's also then entirely random who ends up with them, which may be a risk you don't want to take.
The win condition is getting the pilots to your destination, not killing the entire opposing side. Plan accordingly: if you find yourself in possession of dropped pilots, cutting and running may be a good decision.
