ADMIN NOTICE : OFFICIAL FACTION RIGHTS - Grimly - 06-09-2009 I disagree all that new rules except 2 first (be sure it do not affect me, SM is the 3rd rank in OPG). it smell too much the set of rules made BY leaders FOR leaders. Sorry but I don't believe in that ! ADMIN NOTICE : OFFICIAL FACTION RIGHTS - worldstrider - 06-09-2009 ' Wrote:I disagree all that new rules except first one (be sure it do not affect me, SM is the 3rd rank in OPG). I wasn't going top post but I am with Grimly. It smells very much. This is simply a time travel back to the good 'ol days--same names and faces--same agendas. Victory by lobby. Bravo. ADMIN NOTICE : OFFICIAL FACTION RIGHTS - pchwang - 06-09-2009 Allow me to reiterate. This is the link to the survey that Dieter is talking about, here: http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=38876 Click on it. Read the poll, and tell me how many people voted. If you can't count, as of 18:30 EST, the number is 165 votes total. It was determined from this number of votes that around 75% of all voters agreed with an increase of official faction privileges. Now, look at this page: http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php? In a little box to your left, it states: Quote:Our members have made a total of 567,173 postsI do not make the assumption that every single one of 13,110 members are actually active enough to even participate in the poll. To be honest, I only expect a tiny fraction of those there to actually be able to know enough about our community and the state of our official factions to understand what they are voting about. But even tiny, it's bound to be more than 165. But that does not mean that the survey conducted is representative of the truth. ADMIN NOTICE : OFFICIAL FACTION RIGHTS - mjolnir - 06-09-2009 1. Quote: However, exercise of that authority, on the forums and in game, is restricted to official faction members with the rank of the official faction leader and one rank below him/her. The authority may be exercised through the use of in-game in-RP orders, which, if not obeyed, can result in in-game in-RP consequences (arrest, court martial, and even lethal force in extreme circumstances). That's a bit confusing. I think you wanted to say that the "orders" can be made only by leader/second in command, but the consequences could be done by members as well? So if [RM] leader says that RM doesn't shoot zoners for example and some RM does. Also normal [RM] can fire on the vessel and not only the leader. 2. Don't see the point of giving Cap 8 armor to factions. 500 mil back is enough imo. EDIT: Instead something like what Blunt says would be better. 3. BS licenses - just adds tons of work for faction leaders who might not be around all the time. I don't see BS being "spammed" in any problematic way lately anyway. Contributing to the roleplay and the general quality of the server deserves rewards. Says if they contribute by doing ingame and forum RP, as well as events. Nothing more valuable than that if you ask me. If it were up to me, there'd be many cash and item rewards for exception performance of factions and individual players, but that's a discussion for another time. ' Wrote:3. BS licenses - just adds tons of work for faction leaders who might not be around all the time. I don't see BS being "spammed" in any problematic way lately anyway. They're not spammed, but this way it seems like a relatively flawless way of checking up on people before issuing ships. Better safe than sorry, don't always wait for a problem to emerge, rather prevent it. Plus, for people that want to buy battleships and deserve them because of sufficient skill and/or at least the will to learn to have sufficient skill would buy them for 250 million credits cheaper than now. If I'm asked, it's a darn shame some things are too expensive, because players that'd actually use them well can't, because they don't have the stamina to trade that much, and little persistent powertraders get them. This'd reverse the polarity of the situation. That will be all. For now. ADMIN NOTICE : OFFICIAL FACTION RIGHTS - Jinx - 06-09-2009 all in all we just hope so very much that every faction and faction leader is a beneficial example of flawless roleplay. - and by empowering them, we hope something is rubbing off. what we all cannot imagine in any way is of course... when a faction or faction leader is NOT a good person, a bully even.... and that also rubs off. what id like to know is... are there actual problems with faction / non-faction relationships on the server that are highly detrimental for the gameplay? - in other words - are we playing in problematic times where measures must be taken to ensure the server to run and keep our playerbase motivated and as high as we can? if we don t have problems with our current system ... can the new powers - create problems? - if they do, what are the chances that we revise the powers? ( letting power go is a lot harder than gaining power ) my prediction is that we are sliding into a lot more trouble with the new powers than we can possibly have without the powers. - and the very best case that might happen is that...... nothing changes much. and thats not a really good thing to either a status quo or a worse situation. but maybe i m a bit pessimistic - after all, it seems i m among the 25% of this poll that voted "no". ADMIN NOTICE : OFFICIAL FACTION RIGHTS - bluntpencil2001 - 06-09-2009 The rights don't seem terribly easy to abuse, and with an addendum or two, might be just right. A suggestion: Making the battleship licensing requests as a possible way around a leader's permission, in case, for some reason, an independent and a leader of a faction in the future may not get on. However, the special RP requests may currently offer such a mechanism. Also: Free Cap 8 is unnecessary. Instead, I would possibly offer smaller rewards for time and effort spent in organising community events of high quality. Be it a fleet battle, unusual trade convoy, blockade, concert or circus. Slight off-topic, but this should be available to anyone, instead of factions, and available more than once. Rewards need not be huge. Marburg's rock band idea was good, even if it only had two entries. Perhaps some in-game events, with some modest (or perhaps larger) rewards might be good. They need not be of a competitive nature either. Rewarding people for effort instead of 'winning' is just as good. /end tangent ADMIN NOTICE : OFFICIAL FACTION RIGHTS - Eppy - 06-09-2009 Right, first let me say that I am absolutely ecstatic about this. That said, I have some questions before the Council of Dons starts rewriting policies:
ADMIN NOTICE : OFFICIAL FACTION RIGHTS - Seth Karlo - 06-09-2009 I might aswell wade in. I think giving this much power to factions could end very badly. Say I had a fight with JihadJoe, and then wanted to buy a Lib Carrier (say I wanted to upgrade the San Fran, never gonna happen by the way) the likelehood of me getting said ship is very unlikely. Also, some people are not going to notice this, and we shall see a literal flood of people breaking the rules without even knowing it. Battleship licenses not required any more? Great! They'll say. Also, what about those people with a battleship licence lying around? I have a spare one on Malarlo, must I delete it? Sell it? I think the restrictions will cause a lot of stress for faction leaders, and will start to alienate our new players coming in. At the moment, the people I've seen saying "this is great!" are the faction leaders, who have just been handed a great deal of power. "With great power comes great responsibility." I don't think some people around here are ready for thy responsibility yet. We shall see. Seth ADMIN NOTICE : OFFICIAL FACTION RIGHTS - BaconSoda - 06-10-2009 To be honest, this seems like the rights official factions did have before that everyone was (for some reason they didn't state) afraid to carry out, only written out neatly and concisely. Oh, well. Works for me. I don't see why we need a free cap VIII armor, but, hey, I guess factions without capital ships can just auction it off, 'eh? The Bacon deems it ready for a pin. |
