To Pirate or not to Pirate - Fellow Hoodlum - 05-14-2007

*Sigh* ... Actually there are plenty of 'Pirates' on this server, doing what pirates do ... Pirating. Not going to
war so they can have the excuse to use a battleship. Its a thin and tacky excuse.
You purport to be Blood Dragons, act like them please ... If not, change your story.
You are currently in PvP mode, thats it. You are using them to attack, not defend your home system ...

Though I;m not playing due to exams (uffff) I see that the core of the Disco community is agreeing on things that match my understandings as well. But us speaking here can't prevent ppl from doing what they want (especially ones that don't even visit or visit from time to time the forum) wich is sad...
Anyway RP has always been a part of me and maybe i should first thanks Cay for babysitting my chars;)
And I know that getting a BS is a sole purpose of most of us ppl. But right now i feel that even if i have a Cap ship he won't be mobile as much as my fighter (hell i'll map disco out and then station the damn thing to guard a system and move to help disdress calls in neighbouring clan sys... thats all)

Currently if i recall i should have a Fighter =BSG=Starbuck - my favourite char. RP isn't much of a nessesary especially for ppl who are in touch of the TV series (but i'll post something gooood as soon as i can't = exams are over ) I think my sig shows it all but: Lt. Cara Thrace Callsign Starbuck - a viper pilot (rumored and proven to be the best of the remnants of the colonial fleet - out passed and beaten only by the unfortunate Kat - died in a mission). Cara is very confident , impulsive, expereinsed, "hot head", and has a lil' problems with superiors = spends lots of time arrested in the brig (sorry boss:P)
=BSG=Vindicator - currently commanded by Major Lee Adama - a son of the Famous Admiral Adama - leader of the colonial fleet. Lee is an exellent Viper pilot and CAG (soon ill make a Viper char for him =BSG=Apollo - his callsign), a friend and more to Cara , always straightening and cleaning up her messes, now a great Frigate commander and prob soon (when i get back) promoted to Commander (in the series he is in command of Battlestar Pegausus but here i'll Drydock Vindicator who is guard-ship of Dublin - IMG Hood base there; and take up the decommisioned Battlestar Galactica from Exile. Then the ship will probably be stationed in a more important border system with IMG influence as a guardian. Anyway right now Galactica is being re-armed and re-build in order to be in touch with the latest technological advanses. (This means i'll still have one cap ship = Vinni goes to the museum or To a recruit who gains the rank - not very soon to happen though - have to train a good fighter wing first)
And my last right now unseen char yet:P- [Phantom]The_Damned - oh yea he is back... for more info - search the forums - most of the ''old generation'' know him very good (;)::looks at Cay,Hoodlum,Dab,Kane and manyyyyyy more:: )
So yeah , when i get active ill strictly get back to what i love most - RP:P
Cheers!

Correct me if i am wrong...

Discovery server has about 70-80% pirates compared to barely a handful of police or bounty hunter factions.
Is it because corsairs , outcasts, along with order (not a pirate faction but rather an useful aid) have the super best weaponry and since if one joins a police faction they may not b privileged 2 use such guns on their cap ships and fighters, is that the reason that many people in here are independent pirates or a part of a pirate faction ??

Seems to me like that.

If that is the case, I pity the fact that lawful factions dont have good weapons or atleast to the caliber of Corsairs , OC or or Order type.

I would even go to the extent of saying its better to die with honor rather then join the pirate faction only because they have "some of the best weps available"

Super lame excuse! rather an escapism in my opinion.

1 solution to this whole problem is - either the factions ships have a seperate weps range to choose from and the faction weaps hit on npc's would increase the difficulty level by 1 point ; that would ensure a balance and wont guarantee easy money on missions on both lawful and unlawful sides.

OR

there should be a competitive weaps range for the lawful factions especially the military and police factions . IF they would have those weaps then a lawful faction like IMG though not a police or miliatry or BH faction can still employ it.

Ur inputs r welcome.

To be honest, i reckon that with a bit of common sense this problem can be solved:

The pirates should get bombers, fighter support and small caps like gunboats.
The lawfuls should get larger capital ships and fighter support.

This way, the pirates have the advantage with 2 or 3 bombers (hello GMG bomber) which almost forces the lawfuls to get lots of fighters. This can be countered by a well pilotted group of gunboats. However, destroyers and battleships can easily pick off gunboats. Therefore, more bombers are needed by the pirates to fend them off.

So, battles will be decided not on weight of numbers but on balance of either side. If the lawful side gets all large caps, and the pirate side all gets in their bombers, the lawfuls will be slaughtered. This will make them think twice about using caps next time, reducing capship use. Pirates can then strike in gunboats on the lawful fighters and wipe them out. This forces the lawfuls to obtain bombers, which can be countered if the pirates bring along fighters.... all a lovely circle...

Will only work if most pirate vessels are gunboat class or lower...

OK people, enough spam!

Maybe because the roleplay here is a little closer to the real world. Crafty traders with escorts to keep those
criminals at bay. Powerful military establishments that can actually do their jobs.
Why should pirates be allowed to have it all their own way ? You want to go for that existance, work hard for it.
Its roleplay after all, not just a free for all PvP 'give me the money, or I blow you up' server.

What happened there ? Was replying to another one line piece of literature, and it vanished ... Oh well.

Not always pirates are pirating, sometimes they escort traders too. In this recent screenshot we can see a CGW (a faction reportedly to be corsairs), grouped with two KNF traders:

Wolf Industries Co., flames in any embassy near you.

Advertising: buy a Raven Claw and put in it two tizonas del cid and two salamancas, then join a liberty corporation and flame battleship owners. Investors, join the Hypocritical Interests Reserve Fund.

To Pirate or not to Pirate - Fellow Hoodlum - 05-16-2007

Well well F Wolf, got a problem there. Got a BS too I expect ... My 'Corporation' if you could be bothered to
read up, which I doubt, can loot anything they damn well please, especiallly from the 'Bloody Corsairs'
which the Epsilons take great pleasure in dispatching in huge numbers, ain't a one that can land anywhere
near Corsair territory.
Pay for weps, I hope not, they are all a little sharper than that. And its not open to people who feel the need
to step out of roleplay situations with a large and unnecessary battleship to satisfy their own egos.
Lets be up front son, I am, I hate skulkers and people who point in public.

Alrighty, my 2 cents. i dont even have to say what side of this im on im sure. lol

I can undersatnd the Rp aspect of a crayze pirate in a big ship being a little off but im sure there ways to make it fit.

tho the afording it thing. im sure a pirate would be able to find many ways to earn a buck to pay for it, through wich ever underhanded means hed see fit for it.

tho jsut for randomnes the batlestar adv descritpion mentions one being sold to a mear rich freelancer:Pprobly beside the point.
