Interesting Concern - Knucklehead - 09-13-2007 With regards to how the comms operate, all throughout the SP campaign and even between NPC's voices are heard across the comms. So it's reasonable to think of the text-based player chat as a form of vocal communication in the game's context. Which makes things like "lol" and ":)" come out as nonsensical static, at least to my characters. Don't even get me started on Leetspeak. Abbreviations and acronyms are okay, but there's no reason to replace letters with numbers or symbols. "j00 shuld ph34r m3," for example, comes out like this: "Jay-Zero-Zero shud fuh-three-four-are em-three" To which my characters (and anyone who would actually hear this nonsense) would respond, "Huh?" But enough ranting. This server is all about having fun by pretending you're someone in the distant Sirius sector. Sure it's hard to maintain that character, especially when others don't seem to grasp the purpose of this place we call Discovery. But it's fun when you do manage to get everything in place. By the way, DO, about your tag, have you tried aborting a bunch of Corsair missions yet? Or maybe blowing up the depots around Yaren? Edit: Perhaps the statement "This should be avoided whenever possible," or something to that effect, should be added to the part about adding "OOC" to the message... Interesting Concern - McNeo - 09-13-2007 Well, we could always ignore OOC chat like LOL and RoFlZorZ!!1!1!11eleven! Sometimes i even say "lol" in system chat by accident, but mostly in group chat when were just chatting. Usually I tell them not to go out of RP in chat though... But still, there is a lot of OOC chat. If abreviated words such as Rofl, lol and omg could be blocked with stars or somthing, then it would be alot better. It would also scare those away who can't type the English language, only selective urban dictionary references of it... Interesting Concern - bluntpencil2001 - 09-13-2007 Um, why is it out of RP to shoot without speaking first? I reckon a good soldier would shoot the obvious enemy target, and not bother with questions in many scenarios. Interesting Concern - Eppy - 09-13-2007 Indeed. If I see you flying by with an Outcast Destroyer and a Corsair Tag I will assume you are not only a Corsair but a dirty rotten thief at that. As such, I would turn on the guns and let loose every gun on Fantasia without any warning, to destroy a vile creature that dares to call itself my former brethren and to put a dishonored ship out of its misery. Interesting Concern - Equinox - 09-13-2007 I have to agree, the same happened when 2 Corsair tagged pilots thought it was ok to fly around in outcast destroyers in orbit of Crete, 1 ran and the other one was quickly disposed of. I did do a lot of mission dropping, yes. It doesn't drop the rep as quickly as I would like, and unfortunately after awhile, the server stops letting you get missions and gives that "Too many players" error. I didn't think about the Depot's though, thanks for the idea! ' Wrote:Um, why is it out of RP to shoot without speaking first? In this particular case it is out of RP (unless I misunderstand the rules) to shoot first and ask questions later, because my ID (pirate ID) did not place me as an enemy of any of the present factions (Other than SA, but that was a lone fighter who didn't engage me) In said scenario, they should have asked me where my allegiances were, the displayed "tags" are not recognized as an RP tool, only ID's are. However you are supposed to have a REP that matches your ID (which in this case I technically do, a pirate tag. Just not the preferred tag.) Now if I had given them a "wrong answer" they could have blown me up just fine, but at least they would have tried to RP. Besides, an Outcast ship as a Corsair, how skewed do they think my RP is? When that happens just f1 out and back in agane and missions are reset. Interesting Concern - DarkOddity - 09-13-2007 That only corrects the problem about 10% of the time unfortunately. My character only has about 4 hours of playtime on it as well, most of which was spent trying to find an alternate loadout other than just sticking all Outcast Destroyer turrets on it. About 2 of it was spent trying to get the outcast rep up high enough to purchase the Pirate ID, and I just haven't been on enough to drop the Corsair rep down fully. |
