Its also worth bearing in mind the changes that have been announced this week at E3. I think someone already mentioned project Natal / Kinect for the XBox360.
Here's my take on the new kit;
  • Kinect- formerly Project Natal, for the Xbox360 is a camera-based motion capture game-control system. The idea is you'll be controlling menus, and comparable games by waving your arms around Minority-Report style. Amazon say they'll be selling it for $150 to give a rough pricing estimate.
  • Playstation Move seems to be a simpler but more refined take on motion control. It uses a hand-held wand to track hand movement in 3 dimensions, and is reportedly more precise than Kinect. It works in conjunction with the Playstation Eye camera, so seems to be a sort of hybrid between Kinect and the Wiimote. The wand comes in at $50, the navigation controller (other wand) comes in at $30, and the Eye camera at $35. So, its a $115 / ?100 package roughly.
  • Playstation have announced they'll be moving heavily into 3D games, and have demonstrated the 3D capabilities of the PS3 to audiences at E3, showing Killzone-3 which apparently received audible gasps from the audience. 3D TVs only though. The combination of motion-control and 3D image could lead to an unparalleled immersion experience.
Though some of this new kit looks impressive, i'd reccomend no-one make it a deal-maker/breaker. This new technology adds on at least another $100 to the cost of your rig, and may not add much in terms of gameplay. We're likely to see a host of gimmicky sports and party games flooding the market over the next 12 months, making the PS3 and Xbox games store shelves look like that of the Wii. However, what will really prove weather these new technologies are worth investing in is weather they are properly incorporated into proper mainstream games and big releases. Most of the market will be sitting back, unconvinced, remembering that PS hasn't changed its controller up until now (and Xbox follows a similar formula) for a good reason; the old kit works. The market will be cautious, and that'll make the game developers cautious. I dont expect any of this technology to be a riproaring success. It's a case of wait-and-see.

I have both. I prefer XBox360. Some of the PS3 games are excellent, like Heavy Rain, Uncharted II and God of War III but overall, Xbox is a more user friendly console.

Its gamepad overwhelms PS3's design by far.
Its live capabilities are better at this time even though some of the stuff is not for free.
Games are really good and cheaper than PS3, at least for my country.
The Natal (Kinetic or whatever its name now) is a promising new way.
You can also synch Xbox with Windows so that you can use stuff as a network and you can use Xbox stuff with your PC like the pads etc.

PS3 is more powerful but there isn't any games around that uses the power yet.
