A pirate usually just wants a chunk of change. Don't want to die? Worried that you're playing a hardcore ruleset and the character dies totally if he dies in game once? Pay. Do your best to role play. Play it safe. Even the lulzy 5milordai in ten second pirates will release you if you pay the funds. I've never once met a pirate that didn't. Makes it obnoxious if you play 'ultimate death' as you suggest, but you wouldn't do that if you weren't aiming to make the game harder and more interesting. On a side note, I'd love to see a faction that required 'ultimate death' or hardcore ruleset for their members. I'd absolutely be interested. Thought about doing it for some time, but the idea of being in a crew that does it, having to develop a new character every time we die... Actually he now gained some ego after killing sevral pirates with gunships. And he gets a tip from his passengers when he gave the show of their life. Although he never encountered a terrorist yet. it makes me wonder - BaconSoda - 10-06-2010 I think the thought that a pirate doesn't profit from destroying a transport comes from Discovery's inflated economy. The whole campaign, Trent complains that he lost his one million credits. To us in the game world, this one million credits doesn't mean anything, but to a Rogue Werewolf, destroying a trader and getting 70 units of Light Arms or Gold which he can then pawn off to his buddies is like making a small fortune. Heck, in vanilla pirate and terrorist was synonymous, with the only difference being that pirates just blew things up for the money in salvaging the wreckage. So, to us, in our bombers, we can't really fathom that 90 gold units from that transport will actually benefit us, but to the characters inside of the bombers, those 90 gold units can be their paycheck for the next week or month. For the sake of fun, though, I think we inflated the prices of pirates because every trader can always afford to pay 500,000 credits, and if everyone just payed there would be no fun. But because the rules restrict pirates from destroying a target who payed, terrorists simply can destroy people, which is, again, a gameplay mechanic. The problem with terrorism is the respawn button: most people just don't understand that their character EXPLODED. Very little thought goes into "How would my character feel about exploding?" because it's so easy to hit respawn and just forget about it. And before people call me a hypocrite, the last time I did explode was in New London on that big ol' Battleship. In that kind of situation, there was no escape, and, lets face it, running would have been a bad idea at that point anyway. Before that, the last time I exploded was on my Phantom fighter in New York when I ran into a mine spam about two months ago. I do make it a point to run if I'm going to lose. it makes me wonder - ryeguy146 - 10-07-2010 Most people try to play it off as if their character escaped in an escape pod, which is perfectly fine by me. There's a number of characters that I really wouldn't be able to continue without. Certainly more believable when you have others around to scoop you up, but I'm not about to dictate to others what happens after an explosion. I'd be happy as a clam if traders payed the usual half million that I ask for. I'd be perfectly content if I didn't have to shoot anyone while pirating. Fighting isn't the primary reason I play this game, and certainly not something that my Rogue enjoys. I mean, why shoot when he could be at home enjoying cardamine and wine? |
