I am very dissapointed. I must say that I have not seen this one coming. It has ruined my plans for a risk-free way of making further billions of credits.

I'm not sure if I was really going to follow those plans through but they have been ruined regardless.
Again, I am very disappointed.

I mean, it just sucks, really. Some principles are universal, and are applicable to both real and virtual money. How can it be?

Here's an idea.
Loan...INSURANCE.
*Inserts shameless Interspace plug here*
We'd, of course, do a full investigation and impose some limits, but ye.

How can u really credit check someone on this game/forum?
How do you know they are safe to pay you back?
You might know someone on this game for ages and then lend them and they dont pay you back or leave without paying you back... you still lose your money that you worked hard for but decided that you should lend it out?
How to deal with loan scamming? Make the punishment really hard... loses all ships blah blah blah i dont know, but losing admin protection on those that loan out seems rash and hard on those that make the rp for it...

Hence back to my last post, make it faction only on loaning out, more rp for trading factions, heck could even have factions give out shares for those people who want to loan out there money, gives more action, activity and rp for those trading factions where people only join to trade, well now they can join to interact and have a completely new rp...

Theres many possibilities for loaning out and all should be discussed, but losing protection for those that loan out properly shouldnt be the case, if i rp a loan and contract fully, then it should at least be lengthy and full in-rp on forums, in 1 simple easy post.... instead of 1 or 2 sentences of a contract etc, these ones shouldnt be protected as they are not really rp'd well

Bad idea...
Good idea...
Saying you have to be more careful loaning out just sounds silly... How am i suppose to know these guy is safe or not...

Hmmm... stop giving loans to the first dude knocking on your door : D

If you want to give a loan to someone, make sure he gives you a reference of a person/company that can't disappear just like that. So, if that player doesn't pay the loan, you have someone to shoot in the head.

Does it kill new players from getting loans? Maybe, but we all got our big transports from trading/mining hard. And it could be a good chance to give those new players a reason to interact with others... making relations.

Asking for references is the very best way to ensure a loan.

Just my thoughts.

PS: Go back to Admin team.

PS2: General question... if you all give loans for a way of interaction with others, what's a better interaction than the loan not getting repaid?:DDon't give money to people if you are too affraid of not getting it back. You can take a loan from a bank, and not pay it back. Then you disappear, of course, you won't be able to use your name in any legal transaction anymore, but the references you used to get that loan, aka a house, a car, something, that will go to the bank.

Bank loans aren't given to people who don't posses at least the amount they are asking.

For example, I take a loan to buy a house, I need to earn X minimum on my salary, or they won't give me a loan, not only that, the house I'm buying gets a mortgage to protect the bank's interests. Say I don't pay the mortgage, I not only lose the house, but I won't be able to get any other loan anywhere.

How to apply this on discovery? It's tricky... With /movechar, and /renameme, it's hard. Not to mention that you can even transfer credits face to face... so...

Easiest solution... don't give loans.
Not so easy... get good references.

I did this a few times before movechar was created. It worked fairly well, I had one guy disappear and I took the agreed upon amount from his zoner, then deleted my access to his account.

Now it'd be "give account, get money, move chars off account, disappear."

What fun.

To the notion of "bankruptcy being get off free". Equine feces. Your credit (here in the US) is ruined for years and years and years, and while you might be able to keep that house or car, you're probably not getting another one for several years. And defiantly not with a decent interest rate. And forget about credit cards.

' Wrote:Don't loan out to people you do not know anything about. Real world: Banks will query your credit history, or demand proof of a stable income before loaning out large sums. No trust? No credit. Taking the risk anyway? Expect to get scammed every now and then.
I gave a 100 million loan to some guy. Another person posted and said he's had good loan interactions with this guy in the past, but can't afford to give him a loan right now. So I sent the guy the loan, and he disappeared. Now suddenly I am being punished because I tried to be a decent guy. It's not the pixels, I could live without 10x the amount I loaned out. It's just irking.

Seriously, the previous anti-loan-scam-policy should not have been put in effect in the first place because it reduced risk to zero. And we all know - from Discovery's beloved commodity system - what happens when risk doesn't equal profit.

I guess it's a lesson learned for the clerks.

I originally proposed this rule. Know what? Even I agreed with removing it.

Know why? What Cannon said.

And lazyness and apathy?

Thanks man. Thanks.

BLEH

Admin Notice: Policy Changed - Dusty Lens - 03-21-2011

I believe what he said was that you originally proposed it on the heels of the MM going into the loan business. Which makes sense given that it came into effect two months later.

Also, yes, I will claim that it's a move based on lazyness and apathy when I have what information I'm given. Unless the op to these changes in rules contain information such as "We are being overwhelmed by scam requests and the system is not working" we're going to assume what we will.

A thought:

When I came here, even though I had one post, It felt like my opinion was valid and I was a welcomed player. I repeated that sentiment to new people over the years.

Now it seems to me it's "you have <x posts, you're not good enough for my ingame currency."

Bleh.
