Russia plans missions to Mars and the Moon - Vladimir - 03-15-2012

Quote:That all things happened in communism, economically inefficience system. That's why USSR lost Cold War - they just couldn't resist pace of arms race. Every state action should be profitable, if not in money, then in technology, influence, acces to resources...

Wrong on so many levels. First, cold war wasn't lost or won by anybody, it ended years before USSR collapse. But sure, economy was damaged by arms race. But guess what? It's not just system, it was pretty much the whole civilized world against USSR. No surprise it was too hard.

Now,

Quote:Well, thanks to huuuge economy, Chinese military forces are quickly upgrading, I suppouse also space program. Predictions are in the next decade People's Republic will construct their own aircraft carriers, what will dramatically change balance of the power in Pacific region.

money cannot make miracles. You can't use bags of money to go to space, and chinese won't. Carriers are totally different theme, and their usefulness is highly overrated, especially since anti-ship missiles (also satellties, ever heard of "legend"?) got born. And i mean not the slow-ass things nato calls missiles, i'm talking about all those supersonic low attitude maneuvering torpedo-rockets. Everything else in chinese army is a joke too. Still, upgrading this joke means their space program gets even less money, but hey, who cares. Those carriers will not fly to mars anyway.

And that's even if we assume their export-based ****-making economy with problems with workforce, low level of education for masses, etc. actually works and not just a huge bubble.

Vladezhda is right. The fact of the matter is that China will run out of clean water before ever getting their arses to Mars.

Heh, just read news.... russia already stoped their plans about Moon, Mars and others.

However, arms race could not cause such damages, if all other directory would work properly, with wise leadership. Eh.. you know, USSR had lack in last components.

About China's space programm. Their ship is Sojuz's copy.-
Just check picture.
Sojuz

Economy can secure finance's side of space questions.... no more. You can buy well produced car, TV, PC, furniture, having lots of money. I doubt, that car made by yourself will be able to contest with cheapest car made on factory.

They would use water restoring system, like on space stations. Reciclying will safe the world. :)

' Wrote:As for China and it's space program, seriously? They can't invent anything new and never could. All they do is just copy old soviet tech. They got to the point of trying to make a space station, well, good job. Shame chinese copies of really high tech stuff never become as good as originals. Look at their fighters - they still cannot make a good enough engine for their 4th generation rip-off.
Japanese copies are already better than originals. It will only take few decades before Chinese catch up or take over.

Good thing everybody else will be in hibernation for those decades.

Japan also started by copying and importing technology while the rest of the world was awake and succeeded.

Good luck with that:-) Chinas big problem is the difference in development between the West/countryside and the developed East with all the cities, and the overall lack of natural resources/energy. Coal is the only ressource to be found in abundance, and coal coupled with low-grade unefficient power plants --> massive pollution --> no clean drinking water. Add inefficient governance (centralized government with one set of agendas vs. local government with a very different agenda) to this situation, and you have a large-scale problem that cannot be ignored.

It IS already a problem in China, with most cities suffering from water deficits and almost all streams/rivers/areas with high ground water are overexploited. That's why they are scheming to exploit the Mekong river, much to the dismay of the South East Asian countries, who rely heavily on the Mekong.

So nature and an uneven development between West and East puts a cap on China's ventures into space. Not to mention the expected effects of global warming/sea level rise would have on those areas of China that are developed.

Why do you think China allowed South Africa to join the Bric countries, duh? Access to African resources and land, heheheheheheh.

Success is not only measured in achieving high enough consumption rate. Japan is pretty much insignificant right now. Weird little xenophobic country without even a real army, acting as a giant port for USA and capital of hentai and rapes, great success.

Sure it has water in abundance ready to be easily transfered to another continent. Jeez.

Totally true, but even Africa's resources are limited, it's an unstable region, and there is a lot of transportation involved in extracting/sercuring these resources. But true, China is a major player in Africa, and they will most likely become even bigger.

Edit: Purely talking about oil/energy in relation to Africa.
