In terms of ships - The usual suspects: Wraith, Katana, Chimaera blalalalala and so on.

Incase you don't want them, I can recommend Nyx, Manta and Guardian from my own expirience.
Choose a ship, that matches your flying (Boxing, Sliding, Turning, Jousting, etc.)

As for the weapons, I like Golden Blades the most, Excaliburs are fine as well, Iron Hammers and [Ragnaroks: Their stats are good] are OK for my taste.
Non Code-Weapons: Sammaels (8.33), Kraken (4.00) mixed with Wyrm (3.03), Nomguns (4.00/3.03) are my favorites.

Be advised, that different weapons (=Refire) and ships use different techniques to use them, some are easy to learn, some will fit you better.

If you take a Mini Razor, T/MCD, Starkiller or Sunslayer is a matter of own taste as well, though using torps effectively against a good player is harder than spamming Nuke+CD.

Also, when in doubt, Sabres. Lots of Sabres.

Get that and you can be one of the best no matter what you're flying

- high frame rate
- lower ping then your opponent
- a half decent mouse

and you'll win against the most 'skilled' players out there 9 out of 10 times

If you abuse the Framerate limit then, sure you;re a lot better because you're jittering.

But then again, that won't help you kill a skilled player fast.
You just don't get hit as often you'd normally get.

But this was mentioned / shown by Veygaar who posted my recording.

Interesting. I wasn't aware a forced frame rate caused this jittering effect. But what I actually meant was that if you have a poor frame rate to begin with, due to a poor graphics card, coupled with a bad connection and therefore a significantly higher ping then your opponent, you'll end up shooting lots of empty space, even against novice pilots, no matter how much skill you think you might have.

I'd like to think that most people that do it aren't aware they are doing it. I only found out it happened when someone told me I needed to cap my framerate after a fight. I'd been trying to work out why people were telling me I lagged for months beforehand.
