Power! Yes that yellow bar above the shields. The bar drains all most completely when you cruise and is used to fire weapons. It recharges out of nothing. Its free energy coming out of no where. Well it should charge by consuming fuel. Fuel could be loaded much like ammo currently is but available at all stations. It should be consumed automatically as the ship charges. Different ships could have different fuel. Military grade ships may use uranium while transports use H-fuel (this is only an example).


Power would be used up by the following actions

Impulse would drain power depending on your speed
cruise would drain power progressively and more so on larger ships
Firing weapons drains power (this would remain unchanged)
Shield recharging
tractor beams
mining

I think this would improve gameplay because:
-Trading would need further planning (do I have enough fuel. I might need to avoid a fight or I will have to stop for fuel)
-Trading would have a cost
-Fights would reach a conclusion
-It would cost something to run a capital ship
-Fights would require more tactics

One load of fuel should last a considerable amount of time so players aren't constantly refueling it should last a long time like it could get you across sirius and halfway or more back.

Upgrades that could later be implemented if this idea worksout
-Fuel economy
-Fuel capacity

I know this would require ALOT of work but if it works out it could take DiscoverFL to a whole new level

well, capital ships already use h-fuel for power intensive operations like using jump drives, and that's good enough for now

to bring that thing with fuel: there must be a damn well balance system, because traders and miners could be very negativly effected if the balance is to worse!

Well for starters Fuel would not last minutes it would last hours. A miner should have no problem to get to the mine. And mine for a few hours. Also a trader is usualy in a trade lane for 3/4 of the journey. Fuel would drain very slowly.

FA, LWB, SynthFoods, indirectly Samura and Planetform to some extent are factions which are more or less dependant on SynthPaste commodity. As I know Paste routes are fixed in next version, with additional new commodity SynthGel, but there's never enough Paste around.

My proposition is: let's rename Food Rations commodity to SynthPaste, original Paste would be Pure Paste, Tasteless Paste, pre-product generally, before flavoring, just cellulose.

There wouldn't be any problems with trade routes, as it's just change of name, not introduction of new commodity.

Opinions?

you have the problem that both Kyushu, cambridge and in lesser extent stuttgart and several freeports still produce REGULAR food rations that we all know and love... Removing these would be bad for RP.

Kyushu has Rice and Cambridge Luxury Food commodities respectively.

As for "but normal food rations aren't luxury food" point, I say it doesn't matter, as Luxury Food would illustrate that Cambridge food is something more natural than Paste.
