RE: Jumpdrive Trial Phase - Machelvanius - 10-09-2014

Why do people think this game is supposed to be strictly transactional? If all you want to do is make credits, STOP PLAYING THIS GAME AND GO GET A JOB! That will bring you REAL fruits of your efforts to earn. There's nothing wrong with making loads of credits, There's lots of creative ways to do it, when RP is involved, (pause)
--and concerning Role Play, I mean that people engage in it, don't try to avoid it, don't get mad when it happens, and creatively find ways to make it better --
(resume) making those credits becomes highly precious, because the pirates don't want to play if they are being avoided, the police have nothing to do if the pirates don't play, the traders that do still use trade lanes (I for one) get such rare RP occurrences that it's not fun to play.

The only thing that will save this game is proper RP. I have seen a complete and face-palm lack of it over and over, transactions are not what the game is about, it is a means to the end of finding Role Play within the game.

This mod has great tools and interesting features, but like many others unless people play, and interact it isn't fun, Jump trading is a direct contravention to that end in my opinion.

Thumbs up on this test!

Role-Play is a decisive, calculated, creative task. Don't mistake it for flying around the game silently, avoiding interaction. (unless your looking to get chased, which is a whole other kind of fun)

Expensive things shouldn't be useless. I just handed here some idea and you are free to hate it, however, I would like to have admin response on it, if it is bad, good, or at least inspirative. Whatever.. They can forgot it too. I let the decission on them.

Cloaks aren't useless. If they haven't seen you cloak yet, then the enemy has no idea you're there, minus the playerlist of course, but that's a different story entirely.

Jump drives can still be used to travel quickly into enemy territory, cutting off raid flight time, or for stocking bases that are out of the way. Having a hard counter to less than honest practices isn't the end of the world.

Oh believe me, Congress will stay there until Disco dies (which may be really soon if we keep seeing changes like the one reported in this thread). It's funny how the change itself was implemented just as Congress prepared a jump (the first one in several weeks).

It's kinda cruel that the Admin team made Drrobe report this change. I know how much he likes the Congress though I can only guess how much he regrets this decision, but I bet "not at all" is not the answer.

Sure, hxc PvPers will celebrate this change, and call us whiners, but the fact is that if it weren't for the Congress, you'd all be able to count the online playerbase with your fingers at most times of the day. Perhaps even using only one hand.

Not even 10% of this involved barge jumping so, good luck buddy.

Hey...nothing stopping folks from jump trading with all them < 3600 ships. Have at it!

Adding to the player base, while still being idle in certain systems, is nowhere going to help the server in terms of interaction or fun. I haven't seen any of you guys in my whole time in Disco, and I have played on the server every day since joining, except a week or two. That aside, why don't you jump with ships less than 3.5k, if you claim that you are just doing it once or twice in a week?

Just a little friendly advice (coming from someone who read the skype chat before that was posted). Unless you know this is true, please don't spread rumors like that. No one was "made" to do anything.

RE: Jumpdrive Trial Phase - SnakThree - 10-09-2014

Gypsie,

Congress is most active when during 2-10 SMT, when the server is at it's lowest player count that can be counted on fingers and toes.

I bet if we took away AFK and AFK trading time Congress gathers, it wouldn't be that high number.

But the again, number is quantity. I think people should concentrate on quality more.

Well to all of you who think this will reduce congress activity, it will probably force it to increase, at first, since supplying bases will now enormously jump in man hours required to get the same amount of work done. How long people will be happy going back to much slower way, will depend on the verdict in 2 weeks.

Is this why non jump traders complained about this? an oorp vendetta against the numbers in the faction activity list?

Its not just the congress, many factions use barges to supply their bases, and are hired by those who don't have them to do so (sounds like rp to me?). I think new additions would accept how it is, but the current population relying upon this system (who came to do so under the impression it was not likely to change due to the complaints of non users) are going to think "do i want to go back to spending that much more time supplying?" and probably won't.

Well all of you +1 'ers out there please document all of the barges you see now because of this, and all of your increased pirate opportunities due to this (like it matters), because without any solid data on this effectively increasing traffic, people are just going to take the path of least resistance anyways and just not trade/supply as much. All this will likely do if left in effect is kill some well established and highly used POB's.

This barely effects me at all but it does seem to be 'fixing' something that's not really that broke. I was not under the impression that everything in the game must work well for your potential enemies as much as yourself. I understand the desire to increase player activity, but that's always been a term to hide behind player conflict. The people using these things get lots of interactivity among themselves, its those left out of the loop that complain, when they rarely even know its going on, or what they're missing.

I have serious doubts this will result in large scale, lengthly barge convoys, which will result in disaster and mostly barge kills. No one will want to use them, might as well just get rid of them if this remains. People are simply not going to spend hours going from system to system. Some things in the game are employed for RP purposes. If barges were supposed to be RP only they would be easier to get for the average player, not given out to factions when they form, etc (which implies its to help with the work of supply, as a practical instrument, not something to sit around talking about or purposely expose to pirates).
