We have said it won't be lawful only, or for everyone, the few factions that would get it are probably Order, Hackers, Liberty Lawfuls, and any other people.

This is good, because both sides of pirates could get one (albeit it would be a long winded road). E.g. Corsairs could buy some from Order then sell them on to the Hessians.

Hackers could sell them to any of their allies.

The only people who wouldn't get any are Xenos, and they're getting their ships in their guard system next mod

so if everyone got a key except for the xenoes who dont go to alaska anyway, we would still be in the same possition as now
at least you guys are making me laugh, highly entertaining keep up the great work

Gab, you seem to just be saying you don't like the idea and insulting others. Maybe provide a reason?

Most smugglers I have encountered in Alaska claim to have the codes to the gates, aquired through the Junkers or other contacts. This will actually allow them to RP that properly. So really it helps the smugglers who aren't OORP.

Everyone would not have acess to the gate. They COULD get through it if they aquired the codes. Which they could bribe a Navy person for or shoot down someone carrying them. Saying that this will simply mean everyone will have them is silly. I have over 15 characters on the server, none of them properly lawful. Around 3 or 4 of them are regularly in and out of Alaska. I will probably only be able to get the codes for 1 of them since the only way for me to aquire them would be through bribery or blasting the Navy a bit. Neither look very nice to me but I know I would actually relish it in a way. This is a step closer to what things would be like in a real universe.

In regards to new Order/Nomad players. If the new mod version is implementing a Rep bribing system (IE all the NPCs in the bar have various bribes) then that will work.

You only have a key if you have access to it, thats like saying today, no one can get drugs, you can, but its not easy to get.

Thats the whole point behind this idea

' Wrote:imo, the jumpholes shouldn't be locked down - realistically, there is nothing to lock down - there is no machine to prevent access

realistically jump hole should be inaccessible , their like rips in the fabric of space which means you fall out of our space and without the correct nav data of trajectory speed and duration you would not be able to find your way back and get lost.

this would indeed be very nice, rules should not change though. I think it would allow for RP of black market ID's, of course if you found them in there like you do now you would just kill them. but it would be a very nice RP item, perhaps the hackers being hackers would be the ones to sell black market ID's? perhaps it could even be labled black market, just a thought......

Damn right it ain't fair but it certainly is proper roleplay.

Are you kidding me? If there were no gaurds and I was a billionare I could certainly get in. Someone would sell me a keycard no doubt. Thats why I or anyone on these forums cant get in:

a. Heavilly gaurded
b. We don't have the money to bribe someone for a keycard.

Im saying like all game mechanics change proposals I have seen it involves something that the player can start changing now.

To be honest, I'm all for it.

You have probably seen me defending the run several times now. I do not do that run. I dont powertrade and I dont powersmuggle. However, as an American I feel it is my job to defend liberty, virtual and real. Now, I agree that this is a liberty that should only be given to some, but i think thats the thing about freelancer that people miss a lot.

There are 220 million people on planet manhattan alone. If there 500 people with keys to that hole it would be .000002% of the population.

To compare that to real life when NASA got hacked the guy who got caught found thousands of other hackers who already had access.

So to introduce this concept will take a lot of real world work from a programmer. I persoanlly would rather see that time spent on coding going into other things. That is not my choice so I am expressing my opinion. Because realistically:

Quote:You only have a key if you have access to it, thats like saying today, no one can get drugs, you can, but its not easy to get.

I gaurentee anyone that wants drugs can get them.

You're still missing the point though. Guarded or not the gate is supposed to be locked to anyone but High level Navy and LSF members. How is that supposed to be roleplayed 24/7 unless it was locked and some were given the codes to access it?

From the first post, the amount of work to make it happen looks to be minimal. It can't be that hard to lock a gate and add a new commodity, especially when we are not worried about trade routes.

I'm just not sure what the problem is.

As can anyone who wants a keycard get one, but you fail at seeing the obvious: You can't use what you don't have.
