A very good question. They said it was there to fix liberty's fuel shortage before the GMG came but.. what possible help could a jumpgate to magellan give?
I assume the presense of the particle fountains is what they were trying to get power from.

The only thing in magellan is rocks and ice.. unless pushing chunks of water through the particle fountain somehow creates a usable fuel?

Come to think of it, how about we remove the Ithica/Wespoint TL and replace it with the broken TL that you see on your was to station Glorious in SP?
Nobody really uses that TL, so why would people spend money maintaining it? Unless its going to start seeing use that is.
