The current state of RP, or lack thereof - Kane - 10-22-2006 Does anyone recall having a similar discussion to this one, or am I just being insane again? Anyway, since people post their opinions, let me go with mine. A house faction should use the ships that faction produces. It's kinda like a badge of honor, you know. For example, the Bretonian Cruiser/Destroyer may be the worst of it's kind, but a true bretonian (Which all of the SF should be, given who they work for/with) wouldn't care (Not mentioning that most militaries don't get a choice in the matter). That's right, every military in the world get's assigned a gun/ship/plane. They get no choice in the matter, the commander just says "This one is yours. End of story." Pirates, on the other hand, grab what they can. If they can make their own ships, they should use those ships again because of pride. If they take ships (Legaly or otherwise) and modify them, then they use the modified ships (I doubt the Unioners would use straight up Eagles and whatnot without some modifications, but Freelancer is broken anyway, so...). And now we get to the nitty gritty of what the problem here is; "I want this ship, for reason X." Well, let's go over the possibilities... 1) The ship is part of your faction, thus there is no problem. 2) The ship is not part of your faction, but one of your allies. Thus, with perhaps a little payment to that faction (Plus the ship cost), it should be available. 3) The ship is not part of your faction, and is one of your enemies. Therefor, you should NOT be able to buy it. You will note that I never did consider how the ship looks. That is because it dosn't matter. What matters, for Discovery terms, is who built the ship. I.E, the Black Squadron would not use the Bounty Hunter Dreadnought, precisly because it is made by the Bounty Hunters. Ships looks, while important, should not determine who get's it. The current state of RP, or lack thereof - Sid - 10-22-2006 i fell u have a good point romer makes sence. i fell pvp and rp sould back one another up. hears my personal rules regarding pvp right now curenty im in the Rogues so what i see is in my own head. is that if i see a freelancer and he's near a bace or was unlucky enough to get lane jacked by me, id have my factions back ground to fall on. i also wont ingage another in any other space then liberty excluding NY of corce. i would never pirate out side of the liberty systmes, olny exceptions are the independt systems of wich i see a rouge presence thire are like 2 or 3 if i rember corectly. i fell if someone plays a role such as this they to should take this method in to thire roles, it olny fair and makes alot of sence. that's how i look at things well form my pirate chars prespictive. thing is i havent pirated a person yet once, well almost lol he was near megglen's hacker's base, i had no disruptors lol so i chased em out of the ice field. lol as for the topic of the ships.......well i to think house factions should keep thire ships and use just them like the guy above said show pride for ur factions now for blance purpos wepons shold be for any one i always fell that it should be up the the person flying it. lol reamber if ya whant a ship bad enough that is what a new char with a freelance id is for ;). but that's my own personal thing i have a thing in my mind that says this ship's not ment for ur faction so make a freelancer and try as many ships as i whant lol. that's what id do any way.....lol  The current state of RP, or lack thereof - DarkOddity - 10-23-2006 I see the Bounty Hunter Battleship I fly and the Destroyer are a common reoccurance in this thread. Two things on that. Dab mentioned (along these lines): "These ships were either originaly imperial, or made by someone controlled by the Empire. Then stolen and used by the rebellion." Wolfpack mentioned (along these lines): "Using designs brought with us and Sirius technology we rebuild our fleet. So if you want to get technical, the Bounty Hunters Guild (RP Wise) utilized alien technology from the Imperial fleets that were lost/destroyed in Sirius to build their own fleet. It's not far fetched. :) The current state of RP, or lack thereof - McNeo - 10-23-2006 i wanted to post this ages ago: The Empire doesnt use the ships commonly flagged as rebelion because they either: 1. Cost too much to mass produce. 2. Arent efficient at what they do. Let me give you an example of each: 1. The X-wing and B-wing are both topclass ships, but they cost way too much to produce, so the Empire goes for a cheaper Tie-fighter. 2. The defences on Hoth: they are really out of date. The Dish Cannon fires a Large bolt of Energy but 5 full shots expends the battery. Not to good really. 10 year old design roughy. The Anti-infantry cannon (the big white one) also a 10 year old design taken from the imperials. Effective at what it does but its armour is too light to withstand even a light landing craft (ie scout AT-ST) Now i know your gonna say "what about the Tie-Interceptor??". The Tie-Interceptor is given to the most capebal pilots in the Fleet and are either sqadron leaders or higher in the fighter corps. They are not given the X-wing because a Tie-interceptor can easily out-turn one of them. The Tie-interceptor is only matched in speed by the A-wing, but as a result, the A-wings airframe and sheilds are very weak. True, the Tie interceptor is weaker, but it can out-turn an A-wing, but is slightly slower in speed. Twin Ion Engines have their limits you know. The current state of RP, or lack thereof - Dab - 10-23-2006 Correction: X-wing was not used by the empire, because the Rebels stole the 5 prototype X-wings from Incom. So the Empire made a new design, one cheaper, for its fighters, giving Tie Interceptors to veteran pilots. It has nothing to do with cost. If the Rebels can afford to create them, the Empire could. The Empire DID make the Tie Defender, the most expensive fighter in the galaxy during its time. Over twice the cost of an X-wing. B-wing was not even designed until the rebels destroyed both death stars. By that time, Incom was on the Rebel's side, and producing their X-wings. The ships stolen by the Rebels weren't out of date, or inefficient. The Nebulan-B frigate was a VERY capable escort vessal, both for transports and for escorting larger ships in combat. It can outfight an Imperial Acclamator-Class Star Destroyer on its own. It can give an Imperial Victory-Class Star Destroyer a good fight even. The Assault Frigate can fight a Victory to a stand still, and kill an Acclamator without breaking a sweat. The current state of RP, or lack thereof - Kane - 10-23-2006 You're right, it's not. But my point still stands; Why would you have it, if it's being made and sold by the people who hate you? The Order isn't making them, neither are the Zoners. The Bounty Hunters are. Hence, why it's called a Bounty Hunter Battleship and not something else. "But we arn't The Order." All right, let me answer that one too. You allied with the Order. Despite what you may say, that indicates that other factions will deal with you as such; allies of The Order. Bounty Hunters hate The Order, thus they hate you. It's just like what the Hellfire Legion are going though now. They allied with the AW, thus the Phantoms treat them like that. I don't care what they said about the alliance (Something about not inherating the others enemies or some such nonsence), if you ally with our enemy, you are also our enemy. The current state of RP, or lack thereof - McNeo - 10-23-2006 Dab,Oct 23 2006, 01:26 AM Wrote:Correction: X-wing was not used by the empire, because the Rebels stole the 5 prototype X-wings from Incom. So the Empire made a new design, one cheaper, for its fighters, giving Tie Interceptors to veteran pilots. X-wing blueprints would not have been erased when the 5 fighters were stolen. The Empire knows better than that. The Rebelion gets discounts because everyone hates the Empire. That is also obvious from my point of view. True, the empire can *afford* to create them, but they dont want to do that, they want to *mass produce them* Sure they give the Tie defender to their best pilots and the other special Tie fighter to Darth Vader, but those are special cases. Most rebelion pilots fly X-wings (perhaps because there aren't very many). Imagine the amount of tie fighters there are, and make them tie defenders. Thats alot of money, so you can see why they chose tie fighter. The Empire also standardise their equipment, unlike the Rebelion. On the contrary, it has EVERYTHING to do with the cost. The Empire arent going to spend every last credit they have on a better military when there is the delight of corruption and snobbery around are they? Have you seen a Nebulon Beam frigate next to a Imperial Star Destroyer? its like a zit on it. I doubt it could get anywhere near one before its ground down into dust. The firepower a Imperial star destoyer produces is unmatched, but again, the sheilding lets it down (those bluges on the Command deck *sigh*). Then the Empire spends its money on a ridiculously huge flagship (which dies very quickly). And just to prove a point COMPARE THESE STATS::: Imperial star destroyer(scroll down for victory class) Rebel assault frigate Nebulon B frigate 120 guns on the Imperial, 50 guns on the Assault frigate, 24 guns on the Neb B, the Victroy class has 130 guns on both models. That proves a point. (yes i am extreamly stubborn  ) i know this has gone way to far xD. This has turned from RP to Starwars LOL  . I'll ditto all that Kane says. He generally makes more sense than I do. Which is why I usually bring my ideas to him to look over before I give them to the general public. :) Firebird, I won't force you to limit your ships. Do as you please, its your faction. Oi, politics. The current state of RP, or lack thereof - Miffy - 10-23-2006 marauder,Oct 23 2006, 12:28 AM Wrote:However, why has another Bs| player got a BHG destroyer? OK. You are referring to me in the BHG Dest. I confirm, yes i am flying one. However, I *hope* you are not referring to me "complaining" about a certian [Phantom]Reaper attempting to pirate me in a Nomad cruiser. I am relatively new, and once you fired on me, I asked the question of why you were attacking me. Once you stated that it was roleplay, i accepted, and if you remember, I continued on, unabated. If you are not referring to me and the "complaining", then take no notice of the second half of my post :P The current state of RP, or lack thereof - Angel - 10-23-2006 Gone for a little bit and everything changes......well, guess ill just listen in...... >.> <.< |
