Captain Matteo was quite frank during our meeting, the Torment is as patched up as realistically possible. Not only that, apparently they need all the drydocks they can get. It seems that other Insurgency vessels are on their way here. I wonder if Leon mediated for them as well.
Hmm, it seems unlikely though. Supposedly they breached through a pretty hefty Liberty blockade, straight into the Omicrons. I doubt the Starfliers would risk their clients to meet such an untimely end, or the potential damage to their reputation if word got out they played a role in that. Honestly I have some concerns about this, while Captain Matteo’s crew has been generally tolerant of our present, plenty of other Corsairs have tried to pick a fight. What will happen if even more ‘outsiders’ start showing up, using up limited materials for repairs? I hope the other Insurgency vessels won’t run into trouble once they get here. Captain Matteo has arranged a meeting with an organization who should be able to further repair the Torment, perhaps moving elsewhere to finish up the repairs before things start getting heated isn’t a terrible idea.
He refuses to tell me with who’m the meeting is, simply giving me a coy smirk whenever I ask. I swear this particular Corsair appears to be a bit of a prankster with his antics, but so far things have gone better than expected, despite my involuntarily long stay on the Parabellum. The meeting is to take place on Freeport 9, Captain Matteo will be escorting me there ‘in style’ as he worded it. From what I’ve been told the Zoners at Freeport 9 are used to the Corsairs, that’s probably for the best. I shudder to imagine how House Zoners might react if a Corsair capital vessel showed up on their doorstep. We’ll be heading out to the Freeport tomorrow, fortunately it’s pretty close by so the trip should be uneventful. Captain Lucian Perez, Signing off. RE: The Torment - Torment - 02-22-2023 ![]() CAPTAINS LOG - Entry #42, 43, 44 & 45: The interview, vote, journey and arrival. Date: January & February, 830 A.S.
A lot has happened this last month, in order to save time I’ll be entering my logs simultaneously, hopefully this will free up some extra time down the line.
Lets see, the last entry was just before I visited the Freeport so lets start from there. Suffice to say that negotiations at the Freeport were significantly different than expected. It turns out the Corsairs set up a meeting with a representative of the Order. Of course she didn’t reveal that at first, but still it was quite the surprise; in all our time with the Corsairs to date I have yet to hear them talk about the Order even once. The representative introduced herself as ‘Val’, a Freelancer who had been hired to conduct the interview, among other things. Unfortunately Val insisted we talk about the Torments history, including myself and the rest of its crew. After a long history lesson she seemed convinced enough that we weren’t some band of wild raiders, hellbent on the destruction of whoever’s path we crossed. Which meant she was finally ready to talk business, to a degree. It was at this point she revealed herself as representing the Order, handed me a shard with information about how to contact them properly and offered to answer any questions I might have for her. I took the opportunity to gain some insight into their motivations for helping us, as well as if they were even able to do so. Last but not least I asked to know what they wanted in return. This last question proved particularly important; they wanted us to sign up with the Order. I made it perfectly clear this was too big a decision for me to make without seeing their operations for myself and, while I did not mention it to her, I had no intention of making such a decision without conferring with my senior staff. We said our goodbyes and I returned to the Torment. The next day I called together my senior staff and presented them with the choice we faced, as well as the pro’s and cons, so we could discuss the matter and come to a decision. In the end out of a total of six votes, four voted in favor, two against. With the decision made I reached out to the Order to set things in motion. And who would answer the transmission on their end but Val, I’m fairly sure she’s not a Freelancer at all but an Order agent proper, but I’ll keep my speculations to myself. We arranged the rendezvous and an escort deeper into the Omicrons. The Corsairs who had been our, sometimes disgruntled, hosts provided an escort a well to make sure we ‘left their space safely’. I’d like to think they wanted to make sure we didn’t cause any troubles, seems like what they’d expect other Corsairs to do in our situation after all heh. The escort went with minimal issues, other than the mysterious systems that we passed through on our way to Order space. I suppose there’s a certain charm to flying through what is essentially uncharted space. I wont describe the journey we made in detail, just incase someone ever gets their hands on this log and tries to use it to find Order space through it. Though I’ll give this one hint: If you run into a giant minefield that puts Liberty’s area-51 to shame, you probably want to turn back. Eventually we arrived at a sizeable shipyard deep in Order space called Fort Carthage, though I must confess I had my reservations if it would actually be able to accommodate the Torment. In the end my concerns were partly correct; the Torment had to tilt 90 degrease in order to actually fit in the drydock, but at least we could board the station and start talking about the repairs that were needed. ![]() Captain Lucian Perez, Signing off. RE: The Torment - Torment - 06-14-2023 ![]() CAPTAINS LOG - Entry #46: Integration. Date: June, 830 A.S.
I must admit, I was reluctant about breaking up the crew. We've been through a lot and even the former civilians have started to feel more like brothers in arms. Still, the group was simply too big to integrate properly. Fact of the matter is that a good chunk of the former civilians were quite appealed by the thought of going back to civilian life if their services were no longer needed. So they gave me Order agents to make up the numbers, to train and prepare to function on the Torment while they did so to get the remaining crew more integrated into the Order.
It took a bloody long time but eventually the remaining crew finally started to be properly accepted by the others in the Order, we even had our first assignment since we got here. We had to prevent a bunch of Nomads from finding an Order base. This was the first time for the original crew, myself included, of actually fighting against something other than Humans, it was a surreal experience, almost makes the fighting back home seem petty in comparison. If only Liberty hadn't been so greedy and left well enough alone, perhaps there could have been peace and more attention could be spent on this war going on at the fringes of known space. I have little understanding of Nomad vessels yet, but the Order advisor on the bridge informed me that we were facing the rough equivalent of three Cruiser class vessels. The Order base had dispatched a fighter wing to run interference before we arrived, they weren't exactly in the best of states when we got there but thanks to their efforts the Nomad vessels were positioned perfectly for us to unleash our volleys on one of them. It ended up being quite the debut of the Torment that's for sure. In the months following we had numerous other assignments, most went well though we did run into trouble once or twice. Still, I'm glad to say this place is starting to feel like home. Captain Lucian Perez, Signing off. RE: The Torment - Torment - 11-05-2023 ![]() CAPTAINS LOG - Entry #47: The Passage of Time. Date: November, 833 A.S.
Today was another eventful day patrolling Omicron Mu. It seems the Overwatch has approved a modular ALG base to be constructed near Damascus Research Station, as well as another modular base belonging to the Orders secondary fleet near Akabat, they call themselves the Revenants I believe. During the patrol we ran into several ALG vessels as well as the Revenant battlegroup, neither seemed too surprised to see us but considering we’ve been flying around for quite some time now at the grace of the Overwatch I suppose that shouldn’t be too surprising.
What was however was a Core vessel that showed up from the Omicron Zeta system. The Torments weaponry is hardly fit for dealing with such a small vessel and our onboard escort wing was being repaired in Engineering. Rather than letting him go however, I gave the order to broadcast a systemwide alert, pinpointing the vessel’s location. The Revenants quickly approached to provide assistance and handled the situation, eventually chasing the Core pilot out of the system. It was clear we’d need our escort wing operational as soon as possible, had it been a bomber wing the Torment would have been unable to adequately defend itself. As such we finished up our patrol and returned to Fort Carthage, the Engineers there would be able to help make the needed repairs and adjustments far faster than we could do onboard the Torment. There's also the matter of the name change for the Torment. While I'm still not a fan, I understand the need. I have submitted my preferred choice ahead of our arrival and have been reassured it will be handled with the utmost thoroughness. Captain Lucian Perez, Signing off. |
