.. You can do rolls in FL, sort of.

Using engine kill, sometimes your ship loses the "center balance." Shifting from freeflight to autopilot causes the ship to autocorrect itself, usually resulting in a half-roll or a full roll. It's very limited, though.

Or any time you flip over and let go of the mouse button for a second.

It's definitely not the same though. That's kinda like saying that if you jerk the mouse just right, you can strafe.

The current possible ways of rolling suck. They can't help you in battles at all...It takes 15 seconds just to do the stinking roll...Wait,no it doesn't...it only takes 5 because by then you're already dead.

Exactly. As far as I can tell, rolls can only make the mod better. If you someone doesn't like doing rolls, well, no one's forcing them to roll.
BUT, we still have no comment by any Admins or Igiss:(

Just an idea, but how about making strafing possible while rolling at the same time? With this you could be able to dodge a little easier in fighters.

Wouldn't that make fights too effin' long?

Rolls - Dopamino - 03-10-2008

I don't think so, but some people have aversions to fights longer than a minute. I personally love long fights because you have to use strategy, not just a lucky dual-MiniRazor shot.

Now, I've been plotting combat manouvers involving rolling for a loooong time, and it primarily boils down to this. When I steer, I only use mouse flight, and free flight for flying in straight lines, hands free (or whatever it's called. Soory, brain is lagging) the left mouse button gets used, well never. Can you guess where this is going? Yah, I assign the left mouse button to roll left, and keep the right mouse button as fire.

That way, I turn to strafe, and slam down both mouse buttons, blazing away with all guns whilst making myself a hard target by spinning. An I use a Crow, which has a large flat-ish hitbox, so it would help. I have wasted alot of time thinkin about this, so please add the roll!!

You can do this while using the the left click mouse maneuver.I don't know how it can be used for battle, but aftermost of the battles you ship will probably be upside down. So, when you release the mouse button when the ship is inverted then you can see that the game automatically tries to put the ship straight. In this way mostly you can see that the ship will roll sidewards.
