I have never needed curses to do it. Exactly. It is a non-issue. I fail to see how it adds much, if anything at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm not entirely against the idea, but if we allow it, then change the server age to 17+, and kill the server in the process. Unimportant thing is unimportant. RE: The Freelancer is E for everyone, that doesn't mean that DiscoveryGC should. - Hannibal - 08-10-2013 now that is a nice joke Ed- ,those who do ooRP results will just go "crazy" in locat/system chat without any sort of " // " I'll rather not see or use such kind of words because there's such a thin line between ooRP insults and inRP insults..one that cant be maintain in most of the cases Since this topic seems rather about one single person that more of a general discussion as i thought at beginning of it .. I did felt offended as well since the person in question just manges to throw a "b**ch" at the end of the line and make it all an "inRP" insult..even if it doesn't feel at all to be inRP RE: The Freelancer is E for everyone, that doesn't mean that DiscoveryGC should. - Marburg - 08-10-2013 First, It has never been about protecting children from hearing or saying dirty words. Only the ignorant & naive default to that argument. Admins couldn't care less about what cuss words flow out of peoples mouths. They're simply concerned with what is typed out. The rule exists as a tool to help try & maintain as welcoming an environment as possible for the broadest audience possible. Think of it akin to broadcast TV in the US that are in the FCC's jurisdiction ::ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX:: There are swear words peppered everywhere on those channels & there are words acceptable now that would have never flown a decade ago, but although there is no actual FCC rule that states you can't drop big things like F, S & C bombs on broadcast TV, (those networks can allow it, but don't) simply because they fear the possibility of sponsors pulling their advert dollars & thin-skinned viewers changing the channel to watch something else in protest. Drop the swear rule, & very quickly enough, people will abuse it to the point where it will become a complete clusterf*** of a problem...& out of the dozens upon dozens of threads like this I've seen over the years, I can't remember a single one that offered ideas on how to realistically remove the swear rule and still maintain an open door to a wide audience. Beyond that, my question to those that think they need to type out every swear word they think their character would say is: Is it a flaw in your imaginations that make you think it would add to realism or do ya'll just assume that all people are so stupid that they have to have every single letter spelled out to them? Get outta your heads just long enough to consider "We" over "Me" 'cause the basis of this old-ass argument overall is just self-centered BS Just sayin' RE: The Freelancer is E for everyone, that doesn't mean that DiscoveryGC should. - Moreton - 08-10-2013 I reckon it's not just about kids reading swear words, but allowing swear words would make OoRP verbal abuse a little more time consuming to police for the admins. We'd need even more rules to control swear words, when and where they can't be used. You can say we're all mature adults here, but nobody wants to be swamped with 'Fing and blinding' in PM every time they kill somebody who lacks a little maturity. I do believe however that the rules on swearing should be loosened to allow the 'B' words (B***H B****Y and B*****D). Last thing to add is I've found a couple of 'replacement' words for the big 'F' that I've never received a complaint for using, 'frack' from the Battlestar Galactica series, and on my Molly I often use 'feck'. As Zelot said we don't really need that many swear words, if any at all. Just a little imagination and you can find a way to RP though any situation you might throw a swear word or two into. Hey Loken, how's it going? For the sake of relevance: Oh? Oh yeah, cursing yeah - sure let it be in the game, I think. But as long as I can keep Fecking and Shoiting away on my Molly I dont really care. Thats debatable, but just cos a show is good, it isnt necessarily good to speak as though you're in it. Hence why I dont go around calling people "everypony". |
