The 106th is the Liberty Army, not the navy. Hence why they have grand total of 2 (3) ships. Navy capital ships independent of the command structure should never exist. The amount of times i've seen somebody buy a dreadnought and call themselves Admiral is ridiculous. Hence why on the new LN faction status, we have recognized independents, people that have earned their given ranks and have the same authority as the LN. Everybody else should -technically- not exist, and if they do, they should be hunted down and killed for stealing navy ships and impersonating officers.

my apologies, I must have missed that comment.

what lohingren said. - every player can make a request for a "flagship" - there is no favour for some and not others.

that way - npc factions without playerfactions representing the whole can get one as well as factions that have no army ( zoners ) - but a whole lot of warships ... and individuals like mon star ( remember - he is not a faction but he is a true independent - in contrast to the commonly used term for a non-factionized player who is still part of a faction, but simply not in a player faction )

mind, that multiplies the wordload of those that agree or disagree with the requests - and like i said - it can only be done if there is a full transparency about why someone gets it and why someone does not get it. - along with that, the stream of requests will not cease, cause players will always want to upgrade. - if you offer an upgrade, players crave for it.

the advice is to buff the warships defensive capability up ( like armour only ) - cap vs. cap battles are rather short. - when two battleships meet, it takes them less than a 10th of the time it needs two fighters to own each other. - even if the armour was improved by a factor of 20, 2 bombers could still take it down ( takes 20 times longer of course ) - however.... ask yourself how much it is in RP to team vs a battleship with only one more ( considering we bash people who fly all alone - just cause you CAN, doesn t mean you must )

Dare... I... Say... personalized skins?:yahoo:

I've actually been drooling about the idea of faction flagships for a long time, but always thought the modders/admins would be too busy for it, but hey maybe with the new admins this idea has a chance?

As for balancing, pff I dno, maybe the new armor, maybe more guns, more powerplant whatever.

What I would REALLY like, is a customized skin. ie. the OPG flagship would have a crossbones on it with Torquemada written across the side.

Edit: Just realised, a few balance problems, if you keep same powerplant/hardpoints, and just boost armor by 4x or more. That would screw up balance... why?
Let's say an Order Osiris vs Corsair Osiris come face to face.
The Corsair Osiris has 11 light Corsair turrets, 1 mortar. (11 light Corsair firing doesn't drain energy)
The Order Osiris has 12 Order mk1/2 turrets. Doesn't really matter wether he has a mortar or not.

Now if those 2 hammered away at each other in today's mod, the Order Osiris would win. Why? it has a high damage output. The only advantage the Corsair Osiris has, is energy efficiency, but this doesn't come into play because both ships die so quickly.

Now if you boosted armor by 4x now the Corsair Osiris has the advantage, it can hammer away like it always has, whereas the Order Osiris runs out of energy by the time the Corsair Osiris is at 3/4.

My point is, energy efficiency plays a bigger role when armour gets multiplied by 4 times or so, and some factions are greatly disadvantaged when it comes to this, because their basic turrets drain their energy too fast.

Niezck Wrote:Why would an INDEPENDENT NAVY BATTLESHIP (contradiction ftw) be allowed to have equal stats as the nation's most prized ship? Doesn't make sense to me.

Well, indies and caps usually don't mix. And I've seen an indy dreadnought shooting at a BH BC before (unprovoked, unless in PM), why not one charging into Rheinland going nuts? But anywho...

Quote: and hell its amazing you will happily kill a fighter in that battleship of yours magoo! but its different story when you gotta fight something a class up from you? hah

*whisper* I don't have one... O.o

Quote: well like i said earlier i now throw away my factions only statement and think that ALL people wishing to get the armour (since i reckon the armour to be a better idea than a mk2) should submit to prooving its worth in it all. thus making it fair for everyone just as much work needs to be done for official factions than unfactionized players

Agreed...

Are you umm... Done yelling at me for some reason or another? I was just making a point against the Mk II idea...

factionized flagships - Xing - 07-26-2008

uhu, I actually like the idea of personalised skin. Or maybe, just adding a few components on existant battleships...

ah, reminds me of all these flaggschift in Legend of Galactic Heroes~...

factionized flagships - chovynz - 07-26-2008

Up the damage on Caps. Up the armor. Make them more dangerous.
Force bombers and fighters to act as a team. It is silly to think that 2 bombers or even 3, can take out a capital ship. It is so not a balance issue here. It is nerfage from days past that need rethinking.

AND bring in specialized Flagships for the five HOUSES (not factions). (Soon to be six.) Make them move 10 or 20 Impulse tops.

Upgrade the balance according to what we have now, not what was in the past. People will learn new techniques and team play to suit the situation, rather than making ships all purpose.

My limited opinion.

factionized flagships - Xing - 07-26-2008

well, in reality, the best option is that a battleship would really take a whole faction worth of membership to take out. Which doesnt happen often. and taking in consideration the fun of everyone, battleships probably should stay incredibly that ridiculous.

I'm however in favor for doing something about the flaks and missiles, because for the moment they really arent that useful... other than pissing off npcs.

Heeeey people !!! This is a game not reality !!! :nyam::lol::lol::lol:Is a game !
I say that we should stop comparing a game with reality but is your choice , the fun of the game will dissapear if we will make it very close to reality.

PS: And who said that there in real life are only few ships ? Flag ships ? hehehe check this picture:

look how many flag ships or naval ships are here, mass production.

In real life are many naval ships ! every country has many not only one.
Also if you want to compare Freelancer game with real life check out how many battleships countries have and had . A big list of real life battleships, and are many not few.

This post wasn't made to offend.

I'm always bewildered by that proposition. If we are not to compare to reality in our roleplay as it's basis, what are we to compare to? Star Wars? Battlestar Galactica? The Smurfs? Should I base a smuggler character on the behaviours of a real life smuggler and extrapolate it using vanilla information and the implications of Freelancers settings, or go by the personality of smugglers given by Han Solo or by typical smugglers in Star Wars? I mean, entertainment is a very subjective thing. I find realism most entertaining, but what if I thought making my smuggler a time travelling Neanderthal who is the father of Spartacus?

"It's just a game" is, to be honest, an inconsistent argument. Why is it that it's not "just a game" when we complain about people who run OORP trade routes or want to import things from other universes, yet it is when people want ships that both in real life AND in vanilla (our other "bedrock") are rare, powerful and restricted to be so?

Some people find internal consistency fun, and they aren't a minority. Movies that have massive plot holes quite often get slammed in the box office and by critics, and look at the amount of value graphics play in immersing the modern gamer in the modern computer and video game environment. And for me, when there's more capital ships than snub ships in a Navy and some people are acting like Navies are some sort of weird public use smorgasboard, it breaks immersion.
